In the River Canal
At the east end of the city canal, the smell of brine and fish begins
to mix with the scent of tar, fresh-cut lumber, and city sewage. The high,
stone walls that border the river are cut by a pair of ramps ending at
locked gates; one leads north towards the shipyards while the other leads
south towards the brickyards. To the east the waters flow through the
heavily-guarded portal to the sea.
