You are viewing a read-only archive of the Carrion Fields discussion forums built from a snapshot of the forum database on 2026-08-25. The search page works, though it is not as sophisticated as the old forum search. This archive encompasses approximately 25 years of CF discussion. Today, that discussion continues on Discord (see the main website for a link).

Some of the special-purpose forums are listed below along with their replacements (as of writing):

#1602, "Compact!"

I had forgotten about this one, because I always blamed it on cancellation and other spells as well.

If you have compact set, and you hit enter/return, your prompt will display on the same line, as opposed to if you have compact off, it will not.

Example below.
Compact mode removed.

{02:40:39} <100%hp 100%m 100%mv 171tnl> <11 AM> (indoor-sleeping) -128hrs:
{02:40:39} <100%hp 100%m 100%mv 171tnl> <11 AM> (indoor-sleeping) -128hrs:
{02:40:40} <100%hp 100%m 100%mv 171tnl> <11 AM> (indoor-sleeping) -128hrs:

Compact mode set.
{02:40:59} <100%hp 100%m 100%mv 171tnl> <11 AM> (indoor-sleeping) -128hrs: {02:41:01} <100%hp 100%m 100%mv 171tnl> <11 AM>
(indoor-sleeping) -128hrs: {02:41:01} <100%hp 100%m 100%mv 171tnl> <11 AM> (indoor-sleeping) -128hrs: {02:41:02} <100%hp 100%m 100%mv
171tnl> <11 AM> (indoor-sleeping) -128hrs:

Pardon my rather long prompt otherwise.

Thanks, yes I just created a test char to test that as well.
Looks like local echo is the cause of the problem in Gmud.
Though, sometimes if I hit enter too quickly, it will double up.

Otherwise, without local echo on, Gmud (and possibly some other clients) will have the stacking problem.

Thanks for checking!
