#471, "A suggestion for all Forties present and future."
|
This is something I've noticed with a lot of my Fortressites in the past three years. We use the Cabal channel for anything and everything. At least in my case, it drives me insane ooc to hear people saying on the Fort cb 'What does the helm of freedom do? How do I get to Udgaard? I don't have anything on my legs, what's good for that?
I have no idea what Shok/Aarn/Corrlaan think about this, and I by no means am the authority on the subject, this is just my opinion!
For me it seems to take from the cool rp of inspiring war pep talks, giving enemy locations, plotting tactics or Acolyte peace/love stuff when it's watered down by gear gathering questions and other stuff that doesn't need to be heard by the entire cabal. My advice for those questions is to ask someone in particular, like a veteran maran or acolyte instead of the whole cabal. In most cases you'll get a more precise answer anyway.
I've been guilty of the pointless cb talk too, but i think the cabal atmosphere would be way better if everyone made an effort to keep it interesting, and not a way to find out if humansunder is any good

Is that on CB, it is possible to make a conversation with the entire cabal. I've never been in the Fort, so I don't know the quality of CB use there, but generally I like it when there is talk over CB. And if they ask if humansunder is any good, you can always say:"I think it's pretty good for sundering humans."

in a number of different cabals, at different times, I've sometimes met someone who I thought was the same guy...or a few guys...
I've called them the "Cb nazi's"
Sure, there is a line that shouldn't be crossed, and casually talking eq is probably that line.
But Cabals are also supposed to be (for the most part, with known exceptions) rather social....that is, for me, the main draw.
It's an RP game, cabals help you rp with others, breaks the ice, gives a common ground from which to get started.
Many a time I was rping a pertinent conversation over cb, about the law or the pillar or the code of maran or something...and some CB Nazi would say "That kind of stuff should be private, don't make us all listen to it" Or some variation.
snirt*
I say, let those conversations happen, let cabal mates get to know each other, let them talk, debate, joke...let others hear it so they can jump in and have fun too instead of having little silent cliques in the cabal only conversing with each other when they have to organize a gank of a foe.
Cb should promote comeraderie and esprit de corps. It should NOT be relegated to the role of "secure tactical radio only to be used in extreme situations".
*snirt. Def. 1)An Odrirg invention, like a snort, but shorter and more full of disdain. 2)A misspelled snort that is rationalized into a non-misspell by giving it a definition.

I'm all for talks about cabal related stuff, pillar, code etc...or even just funny roleplay between chars for all the cabal to hear. i.e. A dwarf and elf banter about how the dwarf wants the elf to grow a beard. That stuff is great, or anything else that promotes an rp environment. What I meant that I DIDN'T like to hear on cb is when in the middle of that someone asks where charred leather bracers are from, or if the felar chief is hard to kill or if orcish leggings are l33t.

That would be me.
Well, was me when I actually had time to play more than 30 minutes a week.
One thing, though, it's a lot easier to be on CB patrol if you're and evil cabal leader, in my opinion. You can just tell them to shut the #### up or they are going to die...and they usually shut up.

"Buttercup a marry humperdink little lessa hafan hour...." Wait that's not what I mean to say. (Now bear with me I just got up eyes are still bleary and no coffee so far.) Imho here's the deal: If I catch myself going <This person is in this place.>, <I'm looking for whoever>, <HELP! I'm getting beat up at such and such place>, <This person is dead> <I was just killed by That person they were in such and such> And not saying anything else. It makes it seem more like a pk only kind of thing. part of the game is rp so the goofy comments come out or odd statements when someone is trying to draw anyone into a story line. I tend to throw out a 'hook' and if someone bites I go talk to them in person and start some sort of story going. (Rarely works by the way. probably not worth it) Some people are just plain new, and this is the biggest pool of knowledge they can draw on, If they intend to play future characters they are going to suck everyone dry for information if they can. Well there is my two cents on it. I think. I'm getting coffee now.
