#54, "December 11 - Evade"

So, evade. I generally hate evade, FWIW. I was playing Hunsobo when evade was implemented. Pre-evade, as a Greeting sword spec with nodisarm swords, strange bracers, etched dragonscale pendants, and imperial tactics, I was tough to beat (or survive) if I could bash you.

Post-evade? People actually had a chance to get away sometimes. It SUCKED!

Until my next char, an elf dagger spec.

I digress. This post is to share some actual information about Evade.

First off, the BEST chance you can really ever have to evade something is probably about 12%. That's with full-on edges, perfected evade, 25 dex, and everything going exactly right.

Secondly, as it stands right now, evade cares quite a bit more about your dexterity than your evade skill. For instance, an arial invoker (a class without the evade skill at all) has a better chance to evade than a giant warrior with 100% evade.

I guess not.

Also, those things like "stopping the attack with nothing but baleful gaze of the undead", are they just fancy-echoed cases of evade?

Parry anything doesn't have anything to do with evade.

Nor does Malleability. Nor Fluid Deceptions. Nor Avoid.

Fancy echoes of evade. Similar to the "foils your attempt to disarm him by shoving you into a wall" and that sort of thing. IIRC, when Valguarnera was implementing the Evade skill, he asked for volunteers to come up with echoes for various "niche" evasions (such as undead). I believe Cyradia contributed a lot of them. Not sure who else.

So then from a technical stand point with giants having to be to frugal with their practice sessions. Is it even much a of benefit to take the time to practice evade at all?

My giant warriors often don't practice evade, aim, or any of the armor use skills.

Really? Is it based on intelligence or something that would make this not worthwhile?

When I'm playing a low-int race, I'm the sort who will spend 3 practices to get certain skills to 75%. When I do that, I'm thinking "Ok, do I *really* need metal armor use? I mean, it's a nice skill, and it might one day save me if a rager's about to deathblow me and that one time metal armor use kicks in and the blow doesn't land..."

Usually the armor use skills are ones I'll practice with any "left over" pracs I have when I hit hero. Especially if I've already practiced legendary awareness and prosperous reputation (if applicable).
