No good, self-respecting dwarf worth his beard would kill another dwarf just to get his grubby paws on some shinies, no matter how awesome they are. How about cutting dwarves some slack, and giving them a crack at the gear that doesn't involve a Biddy boot to the backside?

Once Stumpy has gained sufficient inspiration*, he may entreat with another dwarf the time-honoured tradition of a pint and a good battle story. If the other dwarf is sufficiently impressed** he might take such a liking to you as to share with you one of their treasures. This ritual it fairly time consuming, and if interrupted, can sorely ruin the punchline of your best elf-joke, and cause it to fail entirely. Additionally, inspiritation does not just grow on trees! After shooting the breeze with a fellow dwarf, you'll need some time to refine your ice-breakers, and get new tales of worth before you could bother to try again.***

*Some level of imm-exp reached, perhaps an inherent that kicks in at ~30, or what have you.
**Level being a strong factor here, with Heroes and Cabal Leaders reaping the benefits.
***Apply a nice long cooldown, base it off whatever you'd like.

I've added a new command, kinship, that will allow neutral/goods to leverage their racial kinship to get keys, weapons and armor.




Syntax: kinship <target> discuss <item>
kinship <target> pay <key>
kinship <target> trade <item> for <item>

The bonds between racial kin can be leveraged to trade for armors and weapons,
or even pay for keys. The bond of kinship is not strong enough to overcome
common sense, and they will want something of similar value to be convinced to
part with their equipment.

You can discuss with your kin to see if they would even be willing to part
with their item, and in the case of keys learn how much copper it would cost.

We've kicked around ideas for this for awhile, but nothing concrete enough to implement. Will move to long-term so we don't forget about it.

Reading this got me thinking about an old neutral race trading idea, so I figured I'd just recap it here for the record (it would seem pretty straightforward to do codingwise, at least):

Neutral race NPCs (dwarves, wood-elves, cloud giants, gnomes, svirfs) won't just unselfishly give their eq/items away, but they will agree to trade with PCs of their own kind for money (or valuable items). Similar to REQUEST, trading would have a PC level limitation (to be deemed "worthy" of the item in the eyes of the NPC):

- PC level would have to be at least equal to the level of the item,
AND/OR
- equal to the level of the NPC.

(whatever you think is appropriate; I'd maybe only apply the latter to hero PCs to exclude certain powerful/unique items that special high level NPCs just wouldn't part with, e.g. a king and his crown)

The command and syntax could be something like (assuming a new command is easier than adding new functionality to BARTER):

TRADE <npc_ownrace> (<own_item>) FOR <npc_item>

(i.e. the "<own_item>" is optional and only used when bartering)

The trading with all the haggling and whatnot would be somewhat time-consuming, so the command would be associated with substantial lag (close to that of REQUEST). I'd also tie the PC's HAGGLE skill into the equation (with maybe the NPC's initial asking price being slightly higher than the item's real value).

In the case of goodie NPC dwarves, a good dwarf PC could choose to either request, or trade for the item (neutral NPC dwarves would only trade).

IMHO, this is a very reasonable and appropriate restriction; however, it also eliminates so many of the cases where you'd really want this that I can't see it being worth the time (my estimation) to code anymore.
