#111, "Minotaur Waiting Queue"

Hi Santa Zulg,

I request a Minotaur registration queue.

The idea is that rather than get lucky and squeeze in between the hoarders,
you can register to a waiting list, by providing your email address.

Sure, you will still have to wait, but at least it garantuees an opportunity to play one, while retaining the desired limited character of the race.
Playing one after a mighty long wait is better than never. If you care to wait this long, you really mean to play one and deserve a shot at it.

Screens during char generation, after selecting mino:
---

Have you registered for a spot on the waiting list? N

Minotaurs are a limited race, you need to register unto the waiting list. There are 7 people waiting before you.

Please provide your email address: email@provider.com

You have been registered for a Minotaur spot. You will be notified at that email address, when your Minotaur spot is available.
You can try again at any time, to verify the availability of a mino spot.

---

Have you registered for a spot on the waiting list? Y

Please provide the email address to which a spot has been registered: email@provider.com

Your minotaur spot has not yet been activated, there are 3 people waiting before you.

Your Minotaur has been activated, proceed. Thank you, come again.

--------

Each requestor moves up one spot upon deletion of a current minotaur. Possibly you could work with a one week activation period, so that you can't keep the spot in limbo, by not logging in.

Your mino is rollable once the list of people before you is 0. This means that if a max of 5 minos exists, you'll automatically be allowed once you're 5th (or higher) in the list.

This way there doesn't have to be manual activation by the IMMs. I'm sure the mail could be send by the mud.

You're removed from the list once you've actually created the minotaur. Once you delete, you will have to try again.

---

Pros:

+ Limited character of minotaur class remains intact.
+ Everyone has a chance to play one (at some point in time).
+ Straightforward, all requestors will know how many people are in front of them.
+ Once your mino spot is active, no one can steal it by being faster. You get it when you log in, or you don't if you wait longer than 1 week.
+ No major revamp required. Not knowing the CF code, I'd say coding effort is fairly limited, maybe 1-2 work day equivalent.
+ No more 'race for the price' madness*, after a Minotaur char deletes.
+ Mino hoarding is far less effective, because of the 1 week activation period. In you don't genuinely mean to play, you'll have missed your chance.
+ No immediate IMM involvement necessary.

Cons:

- Possibility of registering multiple times for the same person by submitting multiple different email addresses.

Possible counter:
In-game registrations only. This provides IP check facilities. Suspicous registrations/behaviour may result in registrations being cancelled.

- Missing your opportunity because you went on vacation while the mino spot is activated.

Tough luck. Possibly you could request postponing by having the registration set back a few (fixed) positions within the queue.

- Uhm, can't think of anything else

This is a ton of work for very little gain in my opinion. There is no secret to how the existing minotaur slots work. Try rolling one after a reboot.

There have been 83 rolled in the past 6 months, and those are across a large number of IP addresses (not the hoarders you mentioned). There is increased scrutiny on these slots, and they turn over well enough.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!
