#60, "MUD client beginner's guide"

How about a page on this site that gives some kind of overview of key MUD-client features that most players use?

It should include info about:
1) Aliases - How to make long commands like c "power word kill" into quick, on the fly aliases such as "xpk" (that's just my method that I've used since the stone age).
2) How to set up a targeting system - This would explain how to use variables, macros, and aliases to set up a targeting system that can be altered quickly, as combat demands.
3) Key assignments - Come to some kind of agreement on a good layout for keys. My NUMPAD looks like this:
1- look
2- south
3- down
4- west
5- murder @target1 (just attempts to murder my first target)
6- east
7- flee
8- north
9- up
0- where
ADD- @action @target1 (I use the alias "ac" to set my action...for a warrior it could be bash, trip, legsweep, etc. Hitting ADD will do the action upon my first target).
SUB- c @tsp @target1 ("tsp" stands for "target spell." This does the same thing as ADD, but with spells. This can be easily changed to accommodate supplications).

Obviously, everyone probably does theirs a little different and that's fine. But, I think a new player would most likely be fricken overwhelmed and possibly discouraged by the whole concept of aliases, variables, macros, triggers, etc., etc. Sadly, this puts them at a severe disadvantage against those who understand and use these techniques.

In a more long-term sense, would you all be up for allowing a downloadable settings file for zMUD to be hosted on this site? If so, I would have no problem writing one up with an associated helpfile explaining how it all works and how, exactly, it alters the gameplay experience.

All that being said, I'm not and never will be a trigger-whore, so the only real triggers included will be for highlights (I highlight key things, such as the wrist breaker effect of kotegaeshi, deathblows, "You have been summoned!" etc.)

THE SANTA ZULG PART OF THIS would just be to make a page, helpfile, whatever, that gives some examples of how to setup the stuff I wrote about at the top.
