Would it be possible to look at the very niche ability of beastmaster rangers tame charm and fix it somewhat? Here is what I am asking be looked at:

1. Orcs can enslave creatures their level and down, yet I cannot tame anything unless I can "kill it with a few scratches". Which greatly limits what you can actually charm. Orcs are charming polearm spec nasty mother beepers, yet I cannot even charm anything of any use at really any level comparable to what level I'm at.

2. When I tame something, I cannot have a mercenary, it says, "I already have a pet". What gives with that? Why is it doing that?

3. Reasonable mobs that should be charmable, are not. I can start coming up with a complete list, but half the things that are animals don't want to be charmed.

4. Feedback on failing, what factors go into failing, would be more helpful. Like "This creature is too powerful". maybe give a bonus for trying to tame creatures of your home terrain?

Please help with this extremely niche skill. Other classes which have standard enslave and such can get such better, more powerful things that are helpful. Right now, this is almost a roleplay skill.

Thank you for the consideration.

Level-wise, you should be able to tame anything below your level. I'm not going to bother with the berserker comparisons because I don't think that's relevant.

>2. When I tame something, I cannot have a mercenary, it says,

Mercenaries, pet store pets and tamed beasts all count as a "pet" that you can only have one of. Things like servitors, druid mobs and orc hordes do not.

I think the list of what's possible to tame is very reasonable with perhaps the exception of a couple quirky restrictions such as you cannot tame a mob if it has certain types of progs attached to it. That's a sanity check to protect lazy area authors though, and shouldn't affect 99% of mobs.

>4. Feedback on failing, what factors go into failing, would be

Making the command provide clearer feedback would be a good idea. It's not high on my long list, but I will add this.

I will acknowledge that tame doesn't necessarily make beastermasters seem so literal relative to say, berserkers, but I don't find it to be a very compelling argument for why this spec of rangers needs to be mechanically stronger either.

>Thank you for the consideration.

Thank you for the feedback.

IIRC snow leopard is the only mob in the game that can be tamed and might take more than a round for a hero to splat. I've played two beast masters, a caverndweller who I was hoping to get nice things like cavefishers tamed with, and a mountaineer. Even with a mountaineer the snow leopard is so far away and of such marginal use that it wasn't worth using the skill.

The only thing beast masters have in their favour is wolf kinship. Which is more or less just beastcall - if you manage to get inducted into outlander best to be any other kind of ranger, and probably even if you don't.

If it was wolves + bears + charmies beast master would make sense, but bear kinship is literally worse than useless and you end up with nearly an entire expertise which is equivalent to a single cabal power.

woolly mammoth and alligator can also be tamed. you're not going to pk at hero with either but it sure helps in blowing through cabal guardians fast. bears too, plus they're healthier these days.

your comparison of beastcall to wolfkin is off base. both are excellent and can be used together. wolfkin tracks ridiculously fast and engages well, it's actually pretty awesome in the underdark especially. beastcall initiates pretty quickly and moves with the ranger, it's great for pathfinding and tracking back down.

i just did a ranger that used both and also had pursuit. when it works you can do some cool things.

re: tame - i do wish there were some mid-level 30s pets that did things similar to druid pets but toned down.

Tame is simply garbage. For the vast majority of situations you'd like to have
a charmed pet, it's more of a hindrance than a benefit since you can't waylay with
charmed pet and it's giving away your position.

Everything you can charm is not worth it at hero. I wish they completely
reworked the skill into something else that's not this niche but i'm not holding my breath.

Wolf kinship was still bugged last I played and it fails often with 2 rounds of lag on you.

You also can't tame the kinship wolf which is beyond lame.
Finally, it *will* #### up snared victims too by initiating on them.

All in all, if one wants to be real scary with beastmaster he should stay at mids, get apiarist and abuse wasps or pick marsh as terrain and look to land both wasps and mosquitos at hero possibly by feigning weakness and getting ppl to commit/stick around (good luck killing non-newbies with that but hey it's an option).
