The outcome of the fight would depend on whichever narrative the author of that story finds more interesting.

Superman is beyond overpowered. He threw a small continent into space for christ-sakes. Not to mention in the comics his powers have been continually evolving to make him more and more powerful, with no end in sight.

Barely pushing a small continent into space and then collapsing like a big sissy is a parlor trick compared to the power of the Force. And, with Luke and the Jedi now embracing the "Living Force", he could just use Kyp Durron's trick and blink Superman out of existence. Not that Luke would have to resort to that to beat him, but he could.

How can you count a ####ing Cartoon Network show and not the hundred or so sanctioned books? And you're right, at the end of Jedi, Luke is not more badass than Superman, he wasn't even a Jedi Master then, not to mention the most powerful Jedi ever, but if you count the books, which you should if you are counting the Superman comics and the movies, then Luke's powers in the Force are superior to Superman.

Does one have little force things living inside when you are PURE ####ING ENERGY. Superman wins, and if he did lose, he'd just go back in time and win in the past, or kill Luke before he gets powerful, or whatever.
This is all in good fun btw.

His powers are all derived from the "earth's yellow sun" remove him from where he can feel the rays of our sun and he has no more power then a normal kryptonian (Not that I have any idea what that is :p).
Other then that or some kryptonite sneak attack there is no contest, superman wins.

The fact that Superman generally seems to also be super-dumb? Jesus, man, of course Lex Luthor has laid a trap for you with some Kryptonite, just like the last 1,893,398 times! Precautionary measures, yo!

But super-intelligence seems to be one of his powers also (at times). So perhaps he is so smart that what seems like stupidity is actually an intelligence we cannot fathom? Yea, I'm stretching, but I just don't see how Skywalker is going to even fight something moving faster than the speed of light... He may have insane force powers, but he is still human(ish).
In the Justice League Unlimited series on CTN, there is an episode with Apocalypse (back from the dead) that goes down something like:
Apoc shoots eyebeams at batman after generally beating the crap out of him for a while. Batman does his bat-robatics for a while and one of the monkey Apoc thingingy's ends up eating the eyebeams.
Apoc says to Superman, "Impressive, no one has ever evaded eye beam thingys before. He knows he can't win, but he's still trying."
Superman says, "That man will not give up so long as he has a breath in his body. Me, I've got a different problem. I live in a world of cardboard. Always holding back, never giving using my full power because someone might get hurt. But you, you can take it, can't you big guy?"
Superman then proceeds to throw some superbeatdown on the Apoc man. Basically showing that he could have ass beat him anytime he wanted to, but was worried about collateral damage.
It's a cool scene... Not quite as cool as GL sucking the power from the manhunter who tries to take the GL power (from the extra big lantern) from the GL homeworld, but still cool as ####.

taking my sun point and extending it to the fact that Luke lives in a Galazy far far away, I will assume all Luke needs to do is just chill out and let Superman come to him. In his Galaxy the yellow rays of the sun would presumably be too weak to enliven supermans with "super" powers and thus Luke wins easily.

Our sun also looks red when it is setting. If we're talking about luke in the desert as in first movie (the 3 pre-quels don't count)... well I don't think he's going to stand much of a chance there.

And a red star from main series is likely to be 100-1000 weaker in luminosity than the Sun, unless it's a red giant(in which case it is not in the main series, of course). It is unknown how Superman's powers would behave outside Earth, as it has been stated that they do not have such powers in Krypton. Since Superman's powers do not have a solid scientific foundation and are thus unpredictable, I'll refer to my original response to the post for the outcome of the fight. The author gets to postulate much.

The hottest ones are bluish white(surface temperature about 15000 K, B-class), then there are white stars(9000 K, A-class), Yellowish white stars(7000 K, F-class), Yellow stars(5500 K, G-class), orange stars(4000 K, K-class) and red stars(3000 K, M-class). The colour also depends on stuff like the chemical composition of the star and such.
As for movies and sci-fi, wouldn't it make sense for the alien life to be found in planets around sun-like G-class main series stars that have about the same luminosity? As far as yellow stars go, I think that they are common enough in main series, though not all stars are yellow(and not necessarily the majority, but I can understand why sci-fi would favour them).

-Time travel is not possible.......I will have to do research on this, but I believe there is a case of Luke channeling so much of the Force through his body that he nearly is consumed by the Force. Which leads to another debate, which is more powerful, pure F-ing energy or pure F-ing Force? Or are pure F-ing energy and pure F-ing Force the same thing? The thing is, the only way to even sorta beat Luke, is to negate his ability in the Force, or not be part of the Force, so he cannot sense you. Superman is all about life, so I very much doubt he is absent from the Force, since Luke has massive control of the Force, he would in turn be able to manipulate Superman, (who is, as far as we know, not a Force-sensitive being), despite Superman's Hurculean ability. And as Nep pointed out, Superman keeps falling for the same trick that a third grader would figure out. Weak mind = These are not the droids we're looking for, you're free to go. Someone mentioned imperviablity(?) to lightsabers. Just because Superman can stop a bullet, does not mean he can stop a lightsaber blade. Now, a Superman historian will have to fill me in on what othed kinds of things have bounced off Superman's eyes in the past, but I'm not so sure any of them equal the concentrated energy of a lightsaber blade. I am totally prepared to discardx the lightsaber argument at the slightest shred of evidence however, because the Force argument is really what I'm banking on anyway. And Superman's speed is negated by Luke's ability to nearly tell the future through the Force, not to mention he could probably just read Superman's weak-ass mind.
This is all in good fun btw.
- Yep.

Heh, continent? There are issues back in the day where he moved planets.
Superman's powers have waxed and waned over the years, usually every decade or two, depending on new authors, new societal needs, etc. For instance, they made him less powerful, and more human, so they could write WWII superman comics. They had to, otherwise there would be no explanation for why he didn't just win the war for us in half an hour....

I don't read a ton of fiction, but I took The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay on vacation a while ago. It's about a pair of cousins trying to market a superhero comic in New York City during and after World War II, and there's all these great passages about how they kept having to change the protagonist's powers up and down to make the stories work. After the main character has punched out Hitler... well, they still need to sell the line (and the radio show, and...), so they start inventing bigger and more ridiculous Nazi villains for their hero, who starts out as a magician/escape artist with a James Bond kind of flair.... and eventually is picking up tanks and throwing them at Nazi robots.... and then his powers come back down when the authors want to tell a different kind of story (which would be over in 2 pages if the hero could just crush everything in his path), etc. All sorts of discussion about what makes a "good" hero, what your hero can and can't do, etc.
I don't know much about the history of comic books in general, but Chabon makes it work for non-fans. Quick pace, lots of great local detail, and a great job of capturing the feel of old-timey radio shows, etc. Fun read.

And it's a terrific book for the rest of you.
If you like the writing you should try some of his other work, also very good. I liked his first, Mysteries of Pittsburgh very much, and Wonderland, though not as much as MoP or Kavalier.
