95% pk ratio. And I thought you died too much. Guess you killed a lot more. I wonder if I can be as good... without wands... probably not. I respected you a lot because you wouldn't quit against bad odds like others did. A shame you didn't become a lich. I wonder who will become a new chancellor now.

This character was pretty fun and for a couple of reasons I won't go into I expected what happened in the end. Scion was alright as a cabal. Lokilith, you're a good Chancellor, Scion needs some more of you. Valguarnera, you keep Scion together pretty well. Nazgauga.. you're a badass. Have to thank Phyraxle for one of the more memorable and enjoyable parts of Salviar's life. Petriec fell victim to a pk tactic I never thought would work. That was pretty fun too, so thanks. I had all of my reagents in less than a day after getting my quest and I thought that was pretty slick.

..

Distention: This seems like an O.K. idea if that sort of thing is what you are shooting for. Near the end it was getting a bit goofy. I had a higher PK range than a level 51 human would have had and I didn't have many kills at all. Maybe there should be some sort of cap on how high your range can get moved up .

..

Another time, ladies and gentlemen. I'm out of CF for awhile.

- Nick

I've been waiting for a reason to code up some abilities for
not-quite Liches for some time and mainly haven't because
each quest (at least out of the ones I've heard about) has
either failed or succeeded fully. Oh well. I'll wait another
few years before coding up the powers of a freakish half-created
undead player...

Given your hours, I'm guessing you power-ranked to 47 and did
most of your killing there. That's what will get you with
distention. If they had been spread out over the levels you
probably wouldn't have seen it. (That's just speculation on
my part.)

From our interaction it seemed to me like I was basically screwed. If not forever, then for a while... and I just don't have enough time to throw into that to make it worth it for either of us. I get the feeling by the time it took to get my lich quest and to get a response with my items that our times rarely coincide. Maybe I'll try again when I feel like another character and we can have some fun.

Actually, I took a very long time from 20-35 and probably got about a third of my kills there. I leveled from 35-47 in about a day with an insane group, but that was my only powerranking.. the rest was very painfully slow. I still think it's silly to have distention put your pk range so high that it would actually be lowered if you heroed. It's not like I was abusing people I had ten levels on to get my range upped in the end, I was killing people who had levels on me. Might want to look into it. *shrug*

Well, you don't need to coincide with my times to do the lich-
quest. In fact, I'm not even sure who all does lichquests
these days (I can think of one immortal, but maybe there's more
than one doing them). Either way, I don't think we expect most
necromancers to race through the quest like that, so if you had
been praying for a while, you may have needed to give it more
time.

This makes me somewhat curious...what exactly are these only partially undead creatures? Roleplay wise, more than mechanically? Go from mortal, normal necromancer, to fully undead (flesh rots off, then you're just a walking skeleton), is rather understood...what's the half-life sort of creation?

Remember all those half-baked things walking around in Arboria?
They're the result of some experiment gone horribly wrong.
That's been a possible outcome since the beginning of the
Elixir of Eternal Death days. RP-wise you've only been partially
successful in the Becoming, but Bad Things(TM) have happened
in the process. There are several possible outcomes (and don't
get me wrong - it's not a good thing to have happen to you),
each of which leaves the imbiber somewhere between mortal and
lich. I'm currently building a resource with that kind of
information inside (for characters to utilize in the game)
so I'll let you do some research there when it's complete.

Two related ones first...

1) Are these half-liches now free to advance to hero?
2) Why can't people advance to Hero with necromancers without trying the becoming? Specifically choosing not to take the quest, forgoing your chance to ever do so, but get to hero, and live out your mortal life that way.

Third question is still lich related, but not quite the same vein...I've heard the normal place you receive your lich quest isn't nessecarily the only place to do so. My applicant, way back when liching was new(Drow Master, Kaervek the Lord Adept of Sorcery), had no idea where to start, but picked somewhere he seemed suitable, and was then led to the same place everyone else seems to have received their quest at. To get around to get question though...

3) I've heard there are other being you can negotiate with, to receive a lich quest...is this correct? If so, has anyone made an agreement with one of these beings?

This may be vague to the point of inability to understand, at the last part, but I try to respect Imms having people figure these things out on their own, if they haven't yet, and side with less clarity, than too much.

>1) Are these half-liches now

That I won't answer here.

>2) Why can't people advance
>to Hero with necromancers without
>trying the becoming?

I've considered that, and the idea has certainly been kicked
around some. Right now I'd have to hear some compelling reason
to make that possible since the goal of the guild is to master
death, and what better way to master it then to embrace it?

>3) I've heard there are other

That's up to the folks running the Lichquests these days. There
are some IC reasons why the knowledge is held on to tightly
and anyone with the ability to invoke a Becoming might find
they have some dangerous enemies. I might include some info on
this in the resource mentioned above.
