its walls bulging like a forge at full roar, teeming with souls more than is
wont. Crossing the threshold, a shiver coursed through me; an aura dark and
dire did press in from each nook and cranny. The very air did pulse with an
eldritch crimson, save for a locus where the red did burn with an intensity
fierce as dragonfire.

The presence of malevolence was nigh overwhelming-I could name each fell
creature, their vile deeds as clear to me as the stones beneath my feet. It
was as though a dream took hold, and I was but a player upon its stage, steps
drawn inevitably towards the inferno's heart, to the place they call the Fire
of Living Ghosts.

The red glare did blend and weave, a tapestry of evil's call and the crowded
shades that dwelt within. A clarion call stirred within my spirit, a yearning
to scour clean the murky sight, to still the tempest in my mind. My silver
blade, glowing as if moon-kissed, slipped from my grasp as a prayer sprang
forth to my lips, a holy verse seeking purgation.

Hand aloft, the sacred word thundered from my tongue, and a celestial
benediction enfolded me. The power to cleanse flashed bright, and for an
instant, the world was clear as the mountain air. Those wretched beings clad
in aura's bloodied hue writhed and wailed, their essences scattering like
leaves in a gale.

But that moment, as fleeting as it was profound, stretched long as the ages.
Then came the onslaught-desperate they were, flailing against my shield with
steel, claw, and fang. The clash was but a heartbeat in time, and ere I could
summon that divine might once more, the inn's guardians, those bouncers stout
as oak, tore me from the fray and cast me out upon the cold stones of Sumner's
road.

Now, a burden weighs upon me soul-a confession claws at the gates of my heart,
begging release.

Chapter 13

I've been settin' me sights on learnin' the ways of this realm, after takin'
heed of the Lady's counsel. She spoke of golden auras, secrets of the light,
it seems. Beings of the purest sort, untouched by shadow or malice, they bear
a shimmering gold. My own hands hold neither spell nor sacred word to see such
light, but with a vial of amber liquid, gleaned from the heart of Talshidar's
depths, the glow of goodness reveals itself true and bright.

The days within our stone walls pass with the slow certainty of the mountain's
own growth. Darkness may be on the rise, but our resolve stands firm as iron.
I'm still chartin' my course toward the honor of acolyte-not as an end, but as
a path to tread, understandin' the worth of such a quest.

I've shared words with marans, squires, and scribes, watched their doubts come
and go like the morning mists over the crags. And I strive, by my efforts, to
clear their vision, lest they dwell too long in shadows of the mind. A
paladin's claim-that wild elves and gnomes walk hand in hand with
evil-threatens to spread like wildfire through the underbrush. Such flames of
mistrust must be doused ere they rage out of control.

Our fortress kin, they stir in me a sense of hearth and home, a flicker of the
family once mine, now remembered in the echoes of our deep halls.

The final leg of Arinayar's trio brought me to Thaldrak, a brother hailing
from beneath the mighty mountains, and he calls his dwelling Akan. His words
flowed like a subterranean stream, reluctant to delve into the annals of his
lineage or ancestral lore. Yet, a glimmer of insight he granted, revealing
that in days of yore, he once bore the mantle of a blacksmith. However, the
hammer's song has since yielded to the relentless call of war. Another Maran,
another opportunity for me to implore them not to forsake their roots. The
thread woven from their past to their destiny shall remain steadfast and true
if they hold fast to the memories of whence they hailed and the promise of
what they can become once the fires of battle have dimmed.

In the reverie of his dreams, Thaldrak envisions a world liberated from the
Empire's grip and the Scion's taint. "The world shall bloom anew when old men
plant trees under whose shade they shall never rest," so spoke he. His spirit
blazes with an unyielding determination to seek and cleanse the world of that
foul corruption, and his wits remain as sharp as the keenest of dwarven
blades.

In the midst of ceaseless training and bold adventures, he contemplates the
prospect of seeking solace in the embrace of his hammer from time to time. A
worthy pursuit, for all dwarves, where time spent honing one's craft and
strength amid the company of comrades is indeed a treasure trove of memories.

I etch these words upon this sturdy parchment to recount a recent encounter
with none other than our resolute Maran, Chulzor-often fondly dubbed the Giant
Chulzor. His indomitable spirit and unwavering resolve surge in tandem with
the relentless influx of those accursed Empire miscreants invading our sacred
ranks. Engaging in heartfelt discourse with ChuChu, as we've come to call him,
presents a challenge, for he is a creature of simple and unadorned nature. His
wellspring of strength flows chiefly from hearty victuals and unyielding
exertion, a stark contrast to my own spiritual communion with the Lady. I
daresay their connection mirrors that of a noble steed and its master-an
aspect I approach with the utmost reverence, for it treads upon delicate
terrain.

ChuChu's lineage traces back to a humble tribe, but the capricious hand of
nature, which he terms a "sea avalanche," ejected him from their fold and
deposited him within an unfamiliar expanse. There, he chanced upon the
Lizardfolk, who extended their benevolence and shelter unto him. Alas, their
lives met a grisly end at the hands of tainted souls, shrouded in darkness-a
harrowing tragedy that has guided the course of his life, fueling the fierce
determination that blazes within him and propelling him unwaveringly toward
his resolute quest to join our esteemed ranks.

In the moments unburdened by the clamor of war or the impending tempest of
battle, ChuChu devotes himself to the venerable art of stone-shifting, toiling
ceaselessly to amass strength that knows no bounds. As wars surge and subside,
and the ages steadfastly advance, one constant remains unshaken-the undying
desire within ChuChu to move mountains, both literal and metaphorical.

Within the echoing chambers of our hallowed fortress, let it resound that
ChuChu's spirit burns with the unyielding fervor of a true Maran. His
unrelenting commitment stands as a steadfast bulwark for the noble cause we
all cherish.

Chapter 10

Clutching tightly to the task bestowed upon me by Arinayar, I embarked on the
solemn mission to converse with squires and Maran. My path led me to
Iroenyphe, a newcomer to our hallowed ranks. Her spirit burned brightly, and
her words rang true:

"The pursuit of ravenous packs of shifters and conjurers, driving them from
sanctuaries of innocence, has brought me immense joy," she declared. "I lack
the sorrowful tales that burden some of our kin. Raised in humble beginnings,
my Da instilled in me the right way to tread this path. Stained, we all are,
in our own way. I always offer a fair warning to those who claim to uphold
'the balance,' urging them to retreat and cease troubling the downtrodden
before I intervene and expel them myself."

The unwavering commitment to shield the vulnerable stirred deep within
Iroenyphe's heart. She proclaimed:

"My Da always said, 'If a boot rests upon a poor soul's neck, you march right
over and deliver a swift kick where it hurts!' Am I weary? Not yet! It's been
a joyous ride, truly."

Born in the heart of Voralia, her childhood was prematurely extinguished when
her father fell prey to lawless outlaws. She spent her youth in the shadow of
homelessness, a nomad of hardship. Fondly, she reminisced about her father's
fireside tales, stories that kindled the warmth within her. She stood
steadfast against bullies and thieves, thus commencing her journey within her
guild.

In moments free from the clamor of war, Iroenyphe tirelessly honed her skills.
She once harbored a deep love for fishing, a pastime now eclipsed by the
demands of full-scale warfare. I sought to remind her not to forsake the
essence of who she was, for victory would restore her to her former self.

It was a captivating conversation. Her spirit burned with unwavering resolve,
and I believe she shall make a formidable Maran.

By the beard of the ancients, not long ago, a missive from Cardinal Arinayar
didst find me upon my awakening, like a stone beneath a miner's pick. A
weighty duty hath been laid upon my shoulders, one as solid as the stone
walls of our fortress. It is a duty intertwined with my very essence. I am
charged with the solemn quest to seek out three Maran, delving deep into the
core of their spirits, fortifying their resolve, and tempering their mettle. The

"You will each seek out three Squires or Maran of the Fortress and speak with
them. You will break bread with them. You will share a table with them.

brings strength to their resolve and iron to their gullet.

You will then seek to find out where they came from. What do they enjoy
doing when the battle is at pause. If they struggle, ask them what they
found peace with before they were called to the war."

This task aligns harmoniously with the Lady's wishes for my journey.

Already, a trio of names hath etched itself into the stone of my mind. First
amongst them is Plazki, a beacon of unwavering morality, my chosen
pathfinder. Next, Erorm, renowned for his fiery temperament and unswerving
dedication, stands strong as my second choice. The third Maran awaits, their
destiny veiled in the mists of time, ready to reveal itself.

Chapter 8

It's been a long while since I last laid my hand on parchment to
inscribe my deeds and misdeeds. Many days, weeks, and years have
passed since I took my place within the Fortress of the Light.
There have been countless battles, fierce and bloody, but our
purpose has always been unwavering, leaving no room for the
shadows of doubt to obscure my soul.

Today, a special light bathed me in its radiance, an ordinary
visit to our hallowed shire became something more. I set aside
my weapons and knelt in reverence before the sacred tome, offering
my prayers to the Lady. In those moments of communion, I beseeched
her to fortify my unwavering dedication. As peace descended upon
me, as it always does, I retrieved my weapons, respectfully inclined
my head to the priestess, and made my way back to the verdant jungles
to further hone my prayers, to learn how to harness my righteous
fury and wield it against our foes when the need arises.

During a skirmish, a brilliant light bathed me, and a thought,
a message, long awaited but not fully prepared for, dawned upon my
mind. Her voice spoke, "You may approach." Joy and reverence overcame
me entirely. I hastened to conclude my training and returned with
all haste to her shrine.

Before her, I stood for hours, drinking in her words, so humbled
that I couldn't even raise my gaze from the earth. My faith, my
dedication, now burn brighter than ever. I bear her mark, one that
has always resided within me, but now I comprehend it with newfound clarity.

I sought guidance, and it was granted to me, an affirmation of my
path. The Lady's wisdom reaches eternally deeper than my own, but
today, she shared a fragment of it with me. I stand stronger now
than I ever have before.

By Moradin's beard!
Had me a rare chat with an elven light-being. Haven't set eyes on
her in the flesh, but we delved deep into the ways of honing our
prayersand spells, for that matter. She seemed in two minds about
whether a soul not cursed could truly refine their prayer. So, in
true dwarven spirit, I set to testing it out. Aye, the results came
swift and sureour hypothesis held true. May this newfound lore light
her path as it has mine. For in knowledge, the true brilliance of the
light shines forth. I've a mind to meet her face to face, when the
time's right.

Got ganked by the evil creation named Harvaal. The incident is
completely my fault, had to put some practice into remove curse
and cure blindness prayers. He wouldn't have a chance if not that.
I will stand ready next time. Should be easy to put take his head
off.

I can never forget my first attempts and success at creating food
by the power of my devotion. It will never stop to put endless joy
in me, such a simple task, but such strong utility. It's no less
then a sword slicing of piece of evil you face in battle. So simple,
yet so powerful.

I made my first step towards the fortress, let the presence of
Baerinika never leave it. I will make myself busy with writing
letter towards the Fortress as marshall Aobe told me. But first
thing first is find my way to Fortress itself, may the Baerinika
guide me there.

Met fellow healer Svethra, he seems to know a lot about the world,
despite of being young age, you can feel alone by looking at the
armor he wears. Let Baerinika help to gain more knowledge and grow
stronger in my path. Shall the Baerinika light his path. We will

Today I spoke to the Marshall of the fortress, mentally just yet,
we didn't meet in person. I told him about my devotion to path of
light and got guidance and blessing to apply to join the ranks of
the Fortress. He gave me several tasks which I will take care of
at once.

Baerinika and her virtues. I wish to become completely one with
her purity. Get closer to her dedication. And never loose courage in
