Chapter 4

The growing darkness has kindled a sense of urgency in Hustrew. He has thrown
himself into combat. Injustice is rampant, relished by the wicked. Judgment
must fall, but zeal has outstripped his ability. Evil perches upon his corpse.

Oh that the radiant dawn would break across the land and burn away the
darkness! What action can he take? Can he grow in strength to better serve the
light? Shall he continue to crash like the waves against the rocky shores
or temper himself? Inaction cannot be an option.

Chapter 3

What a blessing to have left my home and Moudrilar's teachings and to have
discovered the path of Lady Azorinne, and to have found a sister - Rhyze.

What are the chances that each of us, touched by heaven would be set out on the
same path at the same time? No doubt there are divine hands at work.

Though I know not our future, or what role we shall play in each others lives,
I am content to have family, friendship, and one like her who can understand
the depths of me like no other.

Chapter 2

As Hustrew continued learning about the world outside of the Monastery, his
eyes were opened to the world of the divine.
The monks had mentioned the gods, but they seemed to pay them little heed,
preferring to look within themselves for what they needed. All at once Hustrew
realized how errant this path was. The spark of the heavenly within him
testified to the foolishness of failing to acknowledge the divine.

The very same Paladin who introduced him to the guild was a follower of a
goddess named Azorinne, The Golden Host. Intrigued by what he learned, he
struck out to find her shrine aided by the thoughtful guidance of an elf named
Lyeeth.

Reaching the mountaintop, Hustrew was overcome. This place was glorious and
reminded him of home. He spent days there, reading the eclipse marked tome.
Hustrew was stunned by the beauty and the power of Lady Azorinne's story, and
of the movement she had created through her passion. Everything here resonated
with Hustrew, like the call of the carillon bells across the mountains. His
discomfort with the monastery was explained by the Lady's story. How could one
stand by? How could one let the innocent perish, and evil run roughshod across
the land? Though he loved his adopted family, he would not stand by.. he would
execute judgment on the wicked, he would make justice through his active
presence in the world, and he would extend mercy wherever and to whomever, the
beckoning call of the light could be heeded.

Hustrew saw Justice as the intersection of Judgment and Mercy. Hustew vowed to
stand at that intersection, whether it would be with a clenched fist or an open
hand.

Chapter 1

I was told that I appeared on the steps of the monastery, wrapped tightly,
lovingly, and yet abandoned. Feristile told me that people often fear things
that are different. My eyes, the luminescence beneath my skin, betrayed that I
was not like others. I spent my youth among the monks, gardening, meditating,
gardening, and meditating some more.
I absorbed the teachings of Mouldrinar, peace from detachment. Though I loved
the kindness and the way they would sometimes be benevolent to those down the
mountain, I never felt settled there. It all felt so incomplete, inwardly
focused.

Mouldrinar's teachings may have brought peace to the monks, but
peace didn't feel like happiness to me. The knowledge of the suffering that
took place below our refuge tortured me.

Though I was taught that none were born violent or peaceful by nature, it
seemed obvious to me that some were born with darkness. Perhaps it was the fact
that I could see the pulsating crimson hue that colored those who wrought
destruction. The rest of my adopted family could not perceive it.

The final tenant... to choose the path of peace by my own free will. I could
not choose it. I could not stand by. I could not stand idly by. So I left...
down the mountain, to the city of Galadon where I heard tell of a Paladin named
Garrick who showed me another path, a code, the path of the Paladin.

I needed to live into myself, no longer contained by the structures and
patterns of the monastery, I would dedicate myself to peace. The peace I would
find would go beyond myself, it would be won through my hands. What never
happened in the monastery was the creation of justice, only detachment. I will
make justice.
