Chapter 4

* Xarthan has had numerous incarnations over a very long time

* Knowledge of previous live was always very limited, details lost in a bog of
hazy memories

* Perhaps unconsciously, he has however sought to find a way to defeat the
Archdemon. It take many, many lives, but he managed it with the incarnation
before the current

* His previous incarnation was a Paladin, strong of deed and mind. Absorbing
that Archdemon has had an impact on the current incarnation, he seems filled
with a rage

* He seeks Baerinika, to learn from her and regain his purity

* He seeks to become a Squire and Maran, to help purge evil, from the world
and his mind. To releave him of his rage and find true purpose once more

Role

Chapter 3

Having lived countless lives does not mean Xarthan is omniscient, rather the
opposite. Each incarnation is born and grows up quite inconspicuously, just
like any other youth. However, he will experience things he has already in a
previous live and have a -deja vu- feeling about it. Through this he will
learn things, but like all old memories they are hazy. Now consider having
gathered these over countless years, it becomes very hard indeed to filter out
what truely happened and what was fantasy.

And then there's the Archdemon. Once that he senses that Xarthan has become
enough of a threat, he will come and slay him, causing the next incarnation.
Being a timeless and immortal being, there's no certainty when the Archdemon
will come. It might have other priorities or just not consider the passing of
time all that much. The killing is fun to the demon but the point is the
eternal torment. This general principle of unpredictability only adds to that.

All this is a burden on Xarthan.

However, Xarthan managed to break this chain with the previous incarnation.
Ever on, throughout the ages, he sought a way to defeat the Archdemon.
Running, fighting, pleading, nothing helped. What did help was acceptance.
Finally he came to the realisation that he was done with whatever he did in
the past. He found whatever courage was within him and let the demon charge.
Through this the Archdemon's power was diminished and absorbed. Perhaps even
an Archdemon isn't unaffected by the passing of time, perhaps even he was not
as powerful as he used to be.

Regardless of the cause, the Archdemon was now defeated. And Xarthan was now
once more dead. But he would live again. One final time.

Chapter 2

Attracted by the spectacle of this Rift, an Archdemon saw an opportunity to
slip through this rupture and come upon the mortal plane, seeking to dominate
it. Noticing the efforts that were being undertaken, he hurried towards the
Rift and assaulted it with pure Chaotic energy of his own.

This put a strain on the Rift and would certainly have allowed the dark being
to slip through. Possibly nullifying the already performed efforts.

As I was already gazing upwards, I noticed the Archdemon's fast approach and
the immense power he wielded. Praying to the Jaguar for pure and unfailing
focus, I attempted a desperate dismissal.

I felt the force of my blast connect with the Archdemon, it put a ferocious
strain on me, but I managed to hold on. The greater being's malice poured into
me, but with grievous endeavor I managed to endure and banished the Archdemon.
However not before it cast a terrible curse on me.

"Locked in battle now, so shall we be in Eternity,
all those that come after, shall perish at my hands,
burdened with the weight of time,
fighting an Enemy through the Ages!"

So great was the effort of that dismissal I had drained all my magical power
and could do naught but fall to my knees and weep.

Chapter 1

Many generations ago a Rift ruptured the fabric of existance of the material
plane. It was a tumultuous time, although comparatively the dust has settled,
we still feel the effects of this event. It was the birth of the Nexus, home
to the seekers of Balance. But it was not they alone that contributed to the
stabilization of the Veil.

Entangled as my mind has become with the accumulated bog of old memories,
gathered over so many years, that day however still haunts me with crystalline
precision.

They who would be known as Nexus, were scrambling to set up the foundations of
what would become the Heart of the Veil. As I was not one who sought balance,
but rather a pupil of Baerinika, they did not sufficiently trust me to assist
them with that.

Because of my expertise as a Conjurer they tasked me to send a constant stream
of magical energy into the Rift. Aiding it, healing it. Allowing it to absorb
magical power as the Veil thinned and the rupture would stabilize as the Heart
was completed.
