#75045, "[FORTRESS] Gadorin the Champion of the Virtues, Hand of Jautiir"
|
Gadorin the Champion of the Virtues, Hand of Jautiir
DescriptionA few inches shorter and far stockier than most men, this knight stands here emanating a preparedness for battle. His face is crisscrossed with scars, some old and some still healing, but it is the eyes of this young man that demand attention. Muddy brown, they are nothing special, yet they burn with a sense of intensity garnered from experience far beyond his years. Unkempt chestnut-colored hair sits in a mop upon his head, with an auburn beard just filling in uponon his cheeks. That somewhat patchy beard is cut short though, leaving his neck curiously bare. His face seems to naturally rest at a stoic frown, though it holds no sense of anger. Calloused hands, though, still flex reflexively near the long weapons he seems to permanently keep at the ready.

RoleChapter 6 Salvation Added Tue Nov 1 22:15:15 2022 at level 51:When speaking of Lord Jautiir, Gadorin often found himself speaking of protection, but also of salvation. It was Jautiir's will that saw those He protected delivered from danger. That was Jautiir's way, as Sir Jonn had said so many years before. Serving as Jautiir's Hand, it was Gadorin who saw it done. That was his life, but what Gadorin never considered was what would happen when it was himself that needed salvation.
Whether because of a foolish mistake, or a clever trick of a dark mage, Gadorin committed the ultimate sin. Mistaking one shapeshifter for another is a common enough thing, but the result of his mistake was not. A good man lay dead, by his hand. He murdered one of the innocent - one of those deserving of Jautiir's protection. There is no greater failure that Gadorin could have committed. He'd failed himself, the Code, the Creed and most importantly, he'd forsaken his duty as the Hand of Jautiir. It was an utter, complete and irredemable failure. But what next?
The words that came to Gadorin were a surprise. He must find his own salvation. He must find a way to deliver himself from his sin, from the danger he'd placed his own soul into.
But how?
Seeking out the one he'd wronged, he was given a simple task to earn forgiveness. Revisit the fate he'd delivered wrongly, onto those who warranted the violence - kill the Imperials. And Gadorin obliged. He hunted the Imperials with fervor, and slew them in battle. It was a righteous killing, and his duty as a Squire, but Gadorin did not feel the relief he'd hoped for. Salvation still out of reach.
How, then, would he find his own salvation?

RoleChapter 5 A Void Added Mon Oct 10 15:37:53 2022 at level 25:Life as a paladin was more than young Gadorin had ever dreamed for himself. It was a life of wide-ranging duties, with men and women across Thera counting on him. Relying upon him. And Gadorin welcomed the responsibility. Much as Sir Jonn had been for so many years before, now all of these good men and women were his charge. They were all his to protect. And while on some level he knew he couldn't stand in front of all of them, at the same time he knew he must.
He was their protector. He must be, though he could not ever say exactly why.
This duty was imperative, Gadorin knew. It drove him. But somehow it still did not fulfill him. There was always a piece missing. From his childhood, perhaps. Or from his life before. He could not pinpoint it, but it was there. A void aching to be filled.
Living the life among soldiers for so many years, Gadorin thought that hole may be filled by returning to what he was comfortable with. He found an army, albeit one quite unlike any he'd travelled with before. The Holy Brigade of the Phoenix welcomed him with open arms and like minds. They, too, saw themselves as protectors above all else. With duty to save all of Thera from the clutches of evil. They were Gadorin's allies, his brethren. They were, in many ways, his family.
But the void remained unfilled.
Seeking answers above, Gadorin dedicated himself wholly into his faith in Jautiir. While he'd never yet felt the holy touch himself, he knew Jautiir watched over him. He grasped Sir Jonn's amulet each night, said a prayer before sleep. And he strived to live as Jautiir would have him live.
Perhaps finding Jautiir's guidance would lead Gadorin home. Perhaps it would lead him to the answers to the questions he did not yet even know to ask. Perhaps it would be all that and more. But one way or another, Gadorin knew his faith was the only path. To living up to his duty and perhaps living the life he was meant to live.

|
RoleChapter 4 Starting Anew Added Sun Oct 2 00:17:29 2022 at level 1:Sir Jonn led his small army into engagement after engagement, skirmish after skirmish. Gadorin, still too young to recieve training properly, still insisted on carrying that weapon - which he now knew as a pike - into every battle. Never a combatant in earnest, Gadorin still found himself using that pike time and time again, always to save the life of one of his brethren, including Sir Jonn on multiple occasions.
Years passed in this manner, and for the first time Gadorin found himself living a life that at least somewhat resembled stability. He was passed around no longer. He belonged to Sir Jonn's company... though he still never felt that true sense of belonging that he longed for. He still never felt that connection that he knew was missing.
As he came of age, Gadorin struggled with an important decision. He would serve as a Squire no longer. He could remain with Sir Jonn, train under him and fight in his band. It was a good enough life. But it left Gadorin feeling incomplete, empty. He knew he needed more.
His obligation at an end, Gadorin made the choice to return to the center of Thera, Galadon. Perhaps he would find clues to his home there, or some way to fill that void within. Saying goodbye to Sir Jonn for the last time, that small amulet was passed on with only a knowing nod. Now belonging to Gadorin was the symbol of Jautiir, along with the duty to protect the innocent that it represented.
Gripping that amulet tightly as he walked through the busy Galadon streets, Gadorin found his feet carrying him directly to the Paladin's guild. Whether divine guidance or simply following his heart, Gadorin knew it was where his new journey must start. He'd learned a great deal from Sir Jonn and had embraced his newfound faith in Jautiir. Now it was time for him to live up to the duty that entailed. To live by Jautiir's guiding hand, to protect the innocent who needed his protection and, perhaps, to find an answer for how he could truly feel whole again, as he had not since he left home so many years ago.

#75064, "Gadorin's Role Chapter 3"
|
RoleChapter 3 The God, Jautiir Added Sun Oct 2 00:16:29 2022 at level 1:On one particular day, Sir Jonn's company headed out to what should have been a simple mission. Facing what was thought to be a small party of scouts, Sir Jonn's forces were devastated by a well-coordinated ambush. Dutifully nearby, Gadorin watched as Sir Jonn fought three well-armed foes. A superior swordsman, Sir Jonn took down two before being hamstrung by the third. It was too much, even for him. Retreating a few steps before falling to the ground, Sir Jonn lay prone and helpless at Gadorin's feet. Sensing the victory at hand, the villain leaped to make a killing stroke, ignoring the child Gadorin that watched on. He landed with the blade of a spear piercing his abdomen, raised at the last moment by the boy. Gadorin stood there frozen, a longspear double his own height in his hands, an impaled enemy dying on the other end.
Sir Jonn lived that day, through Gadorin's actions. Yet Gadorin never remembered making the choice to grab that weapon. Never remembered anchoring it on his foot as he lifted the blade into the air. All he remembered was looking down, knowing Sir Jonn was safe and his duty was done. For the day, at least.
The next day, a small feast was held in celebration of the victory and Sir Jonn's miraculous survival. Food was plentiful and ale flowed freely. Gadorin, not even of his teen years, was regarded as a hero for saving Sir Jonn's life.
It was at that meal that Gadorin first heard the name Jautiir spoken aloud. It was Jautiir, the God of Protection and Salvation, that Sir Jonn had prayed to before every battle. And it was Jautiir that the men told stories of today. It was said that Jautiir chose a righteous man to serve as his hand and that Jautiir used that hand to protect the innocent and pure. The men had long believed Sir Jonn served as the Hand of Jautiir. But now whispers spread that perhaps something had changed.
It was a strange story for young Gadorin to hear. He had seen much for such a young child, but had never heard of such a god. At first he thought it a superstition, but the stories never ceased. Nor did the battles.

#75063, "Gadorin's Role Chapter 2"
|
RoleChapter 2 Taken From Home Added Sun Oct 2 00:15:42 2022 at level 1:Gadorin was a small child when he left his home. Small enough that he would barely remember the faces of his family and those he loved. Small enough he would barely remember that home at all, and what made him what he was. In some ways, that left Gadorin a mystery to himself.
What Gadorin does remember, in the fuzzy piecemeal way that childhood is remembered at all, is that he was given over to serve a nobleman as a young boy. How he came into that service, Galadorin did not know. Only that he was responsible for some sort of obligation and that obligation demanded that he follow the nobleman onto the battlefield. He would never learn more, as that nobleman fell during the very first combat Gadorin ever witnessed, drawing his final breath only a few feet from where Gadorin stood helpless.
That nobleman's properties, titles, and liens were transferred to others. And so Gadorin was transferred with them. He found himself serving another soldier, then yet again watching that man fall in battle.
How many times that story repeated itself, Gadorin could not recount. Nor could he recount the number of men he served, or battles he witnessed. A shield-bearer, a stableboy, or just an untitled servant, Gadorin served as he was required. Always fulfilling his duty, but never finding anywhere to belong.
It was not until Gadorin reached his ninth birthday that he met the Knight who he only knew as Sir Jonn. Sir Jonn was the kindest of Gadorin's long line of masters and seemed to take a special interest in the boy. He named Gadorin his personal Squire, and keept him at his side at all times. Sir Jonn was a truly good man, religious man and would grasp his amulet and pray before every battle. Gadorin looked on with curiosity but never asked to whom or what he prayed.

#75062, "Gadorin's Role Chapter 1"
|
RoleChapter 1 Summary Added Sun Oct 2 00:14:36 2022 at level 1:Gadorin was taken from his home as a small child. He remembers very little of his younger life, only a vague idea of his mother and father. Losing his opportunity to grow up and be a child, that sense of belonging is a void in his life that he has not yet found a way to fill.
Gadorin served in various duties as a stablehand, servant and a squire to knights and soldiers at war. He was moved often and was traded from army to army, master to master without any say in the matter.
After watching several of those he served die in battle, Gadorin took action to save his master, Sir Jonn.
Through what he assumed was luck, he managed to save the life of a seemingly important knight in battle. In the feast that followed, Gadorin heard drunken stories of Jautiir, the God of Protection and Salvation. It was said that Jautiir guided the hands of his disciple to protect those worthy from harm. It was Jautiir, then, that guided Gadorin's hand and saved the life of the knight.
Afterwards, Gadorin began to arm himself with a large spear. Still too young to be effective in battle, Gadorin promised himself he would not let another fall.
Serving that Knight faithfully and saving his life more times than he could count, Gadorin was rewarded with his freedom from obligation when he came of age. Not knowing where his home was, Gadorin chose to make his home in Galadon as he started his life anew.
Never forgetting that sense to protect others, Gadorin continued to worship the mysterious god Jautiir. He enlisted within the Paladin's Guild to train his body and mind, to serve as the hand of Jautiir.
Swearing an oath to protect the innocent, Gadorin set out into Thera to find his place. Still though, that void within was never filled. Gadorin longed to find his home, to find what was missing, and ultimately to find himself.
