Chapter 14

Tika has come to believe that she has fooled herself,
With oracle eyes, she looked to the skies and put much of her life on the shelf.
Remembering the Swirling Sisters of the Sand Pits and the Mother of Exiles,
Lady Rarywey, Tika suddenly feels a burst of new health.

She had seen her final death but never stopped to catch her breath,
And now she looks upon whats left as if shes starting over fresh.

In her sleep, she awakens.
The spyglass tattoo is a lens to all the secrets forsaken.
She dreams she is flying to every battle ever taken,
To every lover she fled from because her heart was mistaken.
She was icy hot red, bled, breaking and shaken.
But one Mothers love and a little behaving,
Now was the season for a song in the making.

How about some mystery - how about we take it slow,
How about the little things - we could get lost in ourselves,
I try to cover you up - wrap you around me,
Feel all the air in my lungs - fill it with anything.

You lift me up every day - you are the highest note,
I breathe you in through my lungs - you are my helium.

You take the best of me - make it the centerpiece,

And through each offering - I breathe your helium.

Chapter 13

My heart began to play the day,
I prayed to Rarywey.

The moon she flew away,
A wicked premonition.
The telling or the selling of it,
Rather felt like demolition.

For how can one begin a life,
Of deadly superstition?
When every something beautiful,
Should dain to feign derision?

My heart returned to slay the day,
I prayed to Rarywey.

With oracle eyes she could see my demise,
Yet countless incursions be braved.
The gainful pangs of pain we sang,
And idly watched them fade.

There is wisdom in the Wood,
Now growing in the Bone.
The crone that turns to stone,
When earth and air have flown.

My heart returned to clay the day,
I prayed to Rarywey.

The final rites oh Wood-and-Bone,
Ive come to take my journey home.
Ancient moon for one last kiss,
One last swoon and a bliss-full abyss.

Deaths majesty,
My doom.
Ye tragedy,

Cold and hardened steel,
Solid and stony,
Merciless zeal,
Dogged and lonely.
Thy ultimate doom,
The shadowy-moon looms ferocious,
Everything deemed wicked,
Seemed terrible,
Atrocious.
Death called so sweetly,
You loathed it.
That steely-eyed gaze,
You clothed it.
Intrepid and young,
Enterprisingly dumb,
Whose renegade virtue,
Was no slip of the tongue.
The crazed and courageous,
The absolute bravest,
Could not be written on the pages,
Until the last deed was done.

Role + Rapscallion winds flighted, (mischievous winds took flight)
Twixt-twain they united, (between two they united)
A silent but violent,
Prithee-pithy to the sky. (Expressive request to the sky)

The fourth paragraph represents the power that Zxctikazxcti has come
to wield, which enables her to bring these two different forces, of water
in death, and fire in life, together into one ecstatic prayer.

Fleeting was the being,
Thought seeing was believing,
A pretty piteous, pietous, (a pretty pitiful but devout)
Pythoness life. (A female soothsayers life)

This paragraph represents how the spirit-boy perceives Zxctikazxcti's
conception of her own life through the lens of water and death. Time
is short but you have to see a life to believe it. And in a way, its as though
he is giving her the words to help her finally accept her physical and
spiritual pains for what they are. More valuable than riches. A gift from
the fates, intended to drive her to make a peccant troth with her own
life every morning she awakens as a forlorn skyborn.

Chapter 10

The boy and the spirit-cat are much like many of her other visions.
In a sense, the sighting of a ghost is the same as a vision. This is
how they came to her. Now, the boy was there on the night she
had her first vision and was scorched by lightning so badly. He also
saw what she saw. Her final death. For thirty years, he has followed
her at a distance, yearning to reach out to her but afraid he would not
know what to say. When he foresaw that soon Captain Vlijerous would
be lost to her, he knew he had to do something. By now, he knew
Zxctikazxcti very well. He closed his eyes and asked Rarywey for the
words she would need to hear to prepare her for what was to come.
It is unknown whether or not Rarywey answered the little boys prayers
but when he opened his eyes, these words began to pour out from his
soul. They are a representation of all things Zxctikazxcti. Her ideals,
hopes and fears. And of course, because Zxctikazxcti comes forms
from a strange and esoteric arial culture with an odd language, there
will be included some translation/explanation for how Zxctikazxcti
interprets the poem as well.

The night is brightest,
When the moon is full,
Unswept, unkept,
Unkempt and cool,

The first paragraph represents the surface encounter that all living
creatures have with the cycle. If Zxctikazxcti has learned one thing
about people, its that they prefer to leave the surface barely scratched.
At least when it comes to such things as mortality and the end of days.
Even the most intimate funerary proceedings are unlikely to break this
barrier, which in any case is only held open long enough to say goodbye.

A peccant troth sighted, (A sinful/offending, solemnly made pledge)
Quoth doxy-eyes dighted, (Tis said the lover/mistress-eyes prepared/made ready)
The morn forlorn skyborn, (the morning brings sadness to the warrior)
Expiry-toll the duel, (Deaths toll the duel)

The second paragraph represents the second stage of Zxctikazxctis
journey into death. Of the conundrum of dipping her feet into the waters
of death while wielding the marans fire to fight for the living. It also
portrays the notion that even a solemn oath given to engage in the
cause for/against ones death is sinful in its very nature and that the
toll is the toll. There is no bargaining with the absoluteness of ending.

A dolorous sliver,
Of silvery river,
Shall hither and thither,
This wittering tide, (this token/piece of information tide)

The third paragraph represents that aspect of acceptance that one is
what one is. Of letting the river take you. Of giving in to it and going
with the flow.

The ghost of the little boy begins to sing.

'The night is brightest,

Chapter 8

The ghost of the spirit-cat materializes out of the fireplace
before Zxctikazxcti, who regards it with cold curiosity. It purrs
gently, circling around her a single time before curling beside her.

Hearing something in the distance beyond the western wall,
the priestess chortles, Come, come. No need to be shy.

The ghostly figure of a little boy emerges but does not approach.
He keeps his hands at his side and stares at his feet.

Youve been watching me for some time now. Following me...

The boy offers the slightest nod, not once risking a glance in her direction.

Zxctikazxcti smiles a pained smile, What question do you wish to ask me?

Hearing this, the boy kicked his leg nervously, his angelic voice singing,
Well, um, you see, there is this... place... do you remember it?

Zxctikazxcti was about to answer his question with a question when
her minds eye was suddenly filled with the flash of an image from
her childhood. 'I do. How could I ever forget?'

'I saw you there, um, when you were a little girl,' the boy murmured,
'And when I saw, well, um, what happened next...'

Zxctikazxcti smiles a knowing and pained smile, 'Did it scare you?'

Finally, the boy looked up at her, 'Oh boy, yes! And then, um, I saw you again
and I, well, you see, that is. I have been walking now for so many days
so that I could come to sing you a song that I have made in my heart for you.'

He took a step forward, 'Do you wish to hear it?'

Zxctikazxcti nods, speaking not a word. With a cats growl, the spirit-cat
awakens and struts leisurely into the fireplace.

Chapter 7

After a crushing defeat to Mahrah, Jhaeren has taken his own life.

Zxctikazxcti finds his belongings strewn across the altar room.
She is devastated that he didn't even bother to say goodbye.
Worse still, that she willfully ignored the telltale signs.
She didn't want it to be true that his faith was failing.
So she pretended everything was fine, he would be alright.

Now, his vessel was returned to the waters from which it arose.

Something blood-red and stolid is growing within Zxctikazxcti.
The unflappable and detached acceptance of the inevitable.

She reminded herself of what Wood-and-Bones had said to her.
Every line is short in the grand scheme of the great river.
What use was it having foresight if she was going to hide from it?

Finally, Zxctikazxcti manages to break into Kteng's laboratory.
She gazes through the telescope and sees the silver moon fading.
At last, when there is only a sliver of light left, it turns red.
Unruffled, she leans back and nods to herself.

Chapter 6

Twas at the bottom of the river he appeared before her, a terrifying
and swirling mass of twisted and rotted wood and bone debris in
various stages of decay.

Another vision she thought. Then came the seizure. She could feel
all of the blood rushing to her forehead and her eyes were filled with
blinding light. She felt a pinch around her ankles and her vision suddenly
returned. She looked down to see the creature had grabbed her by the feet.

Alarmed, she cried out, Not yet! and it released her. Not yet! she said
repeatedly, Not yet! Once she had calmed, she took a proper estimation
of the creature, looking beyond its initial hideousness. If it wished her harm,
it certainly seemed to be biding its time. This calmed her a bit. This was
something ancient, she told herself. Something as everlasting as the Ages,
as old as the oldest gods. But it was not a god. Then it spoke to her.

She swam there for thirteen days and thirteen nights, plunged into the wet
darkness of the rivers bottom, and listened to him tell her the way of all
things, from the most ancient to the very distant future. He gave her the
eyes to see everything with a new light and by the end of those two weeks,
the full moon had grown bold enough to illuminate the rotting tree which
rose above them.

The most earth-shattering revelation to her was the notion that she might
have to, as a follower of the natural cycles of Rarywey, forswear any and
all forms of the afterlife, including the famed Azure Fields of the Maran Tarabal.

One would think that spending two weeks, wide awake and submerged in
chilling water, would take its toll on a person but Zxctikazxcti was enraptured.
Finally, the creature had said what it came to say and judged her worthy to
create more tiny ripples in the water.

It reminded her that when she met her end, it wanted to add her foot-claws
and talons to its bulging mass of wood and bones.

As it began to depart, slowly sinking into the soil of the riverbed, Zxctikazxcti
was suddenly moved to make a pledge of down payment for this gift of life
and insight which it had given her. She reached down and, using the edge
of a blade, cut off one of her long-taloned toes.

She pressed it onto the creatures body and it immediately began to take the
piece of bloody-bone into itself.

As she dragged herself out of the water and crawled onto dry land, Zxctikazxcti
spoke only one thing aloud before she collapsed into a coma like sleep.

I truly am mad.

Chapter 5

It was a dark and windborne night.
Zxctikazxcti was flying in her sleep.
A vision filled her eyes,
Of a holy mount washed by the sea.
She ascends in flight,
And hears the sky,
Crackling thunder in relief.

A clarion call arises,
The reverb brings the tide in,
And her flesh begins to sing,

Zxctikazxcti rises,
Only death will make her pure.
Where the moon has been,
The tide is,
A storm of the azure.

Not she realizes,
Stunned and wounded on the ground,
Shes been struck by lightning,
Thats the crackling sound.
Ripping through her torso,
Cauterizing as it flows,
The power of the goddess,
Zxctikazxcti knows.

Chapter 4

Zxctikazxcti recently had a bit of a debate with Aranir about Justice.
Aranir pressed the notion that Justice can be subjective in many cases.
Zxctikazxcti disagreed, stating that she had seen countless people who
made justice out of vengeance or out of dogma. By her reckoning, true
justice was always righteous. They agreed to disagree.

During her initiation into squirehood, Zxctikazxcti was given a scenario.
It was a challenging situation, one which even the Captain agreed had
no immediate right or wrong answer. It was completely situational.
It was a catastrophic event wherein a fellow squire is in mortal danger
at the same time as a non-combatant of the light. Who would she save?

At this moment, her mind was flooded with many possibilities. If she were
the squire on the receiving end, she would want that other squire to save
the innocent person. This is because all squires are oath sworn to give
their lives for this very cause.

Nonetheless, Zxctikazxcti was greatly concerned to realize that she would
likely be facing many such decisions in the future. Now more than ever, she
saw the growing need for wisdom, even for a squire. Especially for a squire.

Captain Vlijerous seems to have great confidence in her and the fact that
he is a cousin gives her a certain comfort around him. A daughter of the
seven devout mothers, Zxctikazxcti almost sees him as a father figure,
despite the fact that he is not much older than she.

Chapter 3

Zxctikazxcti (pronounced Ziksty-ka-Ziksty) has become a force to behold,
flaying her enemies with a bathing light of sanctimonious sight. An oracle
she has become, perceiving even that which lies within the shadows of the
fates. At least that is, the fates of others. Her own fate is a blindspot to her,
although it seems to dim with time.

She gives thanks to Rarywey who many moons ago, looked to the celestial
bodies and gave her a sign, a prophecy, that her life would be a ripple that
had the strength to topple injustice. Since that day, Rarywey has shone over
the heavens and bestowed upon Zxctikazxcti the divine power she now wields.

Under the waxing moon, she seeks out the Fortress of the Holy Brigade.
This was the last thing the Devout Mothers said to her before they sent her
away for training. After boon of moons spyglass, wed thee water to fire.
With the swoop of the skyflash, wed thee spirit to white ash.

And so, Zxctikazxcti hunts.

Chapter 2

Rarywey says, By her light, I dive with righteousness into battle. May my strength topple
injustice and create ripples of release and rebirth.

Chapter 1

Her dreams come with the force of a great wind from a far off place.
They rouse her from the sleepy-eyed vision of mortal beings and drive
her to seek an ancient wisdom which can only be illuminated by the
divine, that which is timeless - the circle of the one sky.

Whereas other hatchlings cried for the sake of their hunger, she cried for
the sake of their hungry nature itself. She wept for the food and for
the stain which surely came from all acts of violence, even acts of survival.

Zxctikazxcti was an atavism among her peers. Since the time of her birth,
she refused to eat flesh of any kind. Before she learned to speak, she began
to prophecy, dancing ecstatically under her first full moon in the presence of
her devout mothers.

But a prophet is never accepted in their own home.

She was fifteen when they released her to the local hermetic guild and by then
had developed her own basic principles of asceticism. She was always
in prayer, uttering strange tongues under her breath.

The intellectuals tempted her with every corruption of their wicked hearts and
she quickly lost interest in what they had to offer. These people were dead
inside, living for dead and meaningless material things.

Now she wanders Thera, seeking the baptism of lifes bitter waters. Her
affinity to water makes her deathly vulnerable to lightning, for when she
is touched by lightning, she eskews the ultimate visage of the divine.
This is, of course, something which no mortal is likely to survive.
