Chapter 6

Some years have passed and my life as a Squire has been productive. I have
received good feedback from the Captain and other elders on my defense of the
Fortress. The blessings from the Spearmaiden seem to inspire me with
dedication and courage.I stand proud and am always ready to fight the
wicked. Lady Baerinika, the Pure has granted me further powers of Fortitude
and it has enabled me to punch my enemies with even more ferocity. I have
watched the captain and seen the capability of the hunt to its maximum.
However, I must show more restraint, as I am a paladin and must adhere to the
Paladin code.

In other matters, I have learnt more about my fathers companion, the one
that seduced him. A wicked dark-elf named Shalia. She is somewhat famous
and known for acts of cruelty, such as working in the slave trade. Acts of
greed, thefts and vandalism across all of Thera. Acts of manipulation, such
as corrupting my fathers mind. Murder of innocents for profit and sport.
Thinking about this dark-elf gets my heart pumping, my fists clenching.
There may be one good thing to come out of this, it has shown me a virtue
that I while already held, may be more important than I thought. While the
virtues of faith, hope, charity and temperance will always be a part of me.
There is no virtue that will satisfy my dedication as much, no virtue more
perfect to match my desire to hunt the wicked like that of the Jaguar. That
is retribution.The wicked must pay a cost for what they have done. Shalia,
just one example that must pay, albeit one that stokes my emotions a lot.
Nevertheless I will dedicate myself to the retribution of evil sins and make
them pay. I will do this while embracing all paladin virtues and the paladin
code and my duties as a Squire.There is much to follow and great
responsibility, I feel I have the dedication for this journey.

Chapter 5

I visited an Elven Knight in a remote vault through the Jade mountains.He
was nice enough to give me his platemail. While I waited with him, he
recognised my likeness and asked if I was a son of an older elf fitting the
description of my father. I was astonished, his description was very
accurate. After all this time, finally I had a clue as to where my father at
least was and that he was not dead. But hope soon turned to dismay when
the Knight mentioned the elves were attacking him. I was confused, the elves
did not strike me. The Knight explained because I had a golden aura. This
was not an explanation as of course I am of the light, but so is my father.
The knight shook his head, and explained there was no such aura. What!? How
can this be, how can my father have turned from the light. Here I was,
dedicated to the Paladin code, faith in the Spearmaiden, squire of the
Fortress. What could have caused my father to end up so vastly different to
me. I need to find out what happened to him and where he was. I need to
ensure that I do not fall from the path as he did.

Chapter 4

Much time has passed and nothing was more memorable than speaking to the Lady
Spearmaiden, Baerinika the Pure. I thanked her for the powers that I was
able to commune. We had discussions about my life, my interests. We talked
about the paladin code and the importance of purity. She empowered me and I
can now directly feel her gifts with every commune. Her magnificence
inspires me with hope and passion for the hunt.

I have taken to the fields, bettering foul beasts, making new friends,
exploring the lands, while wielding the protection of my Lady. I have spoken
to Eilela the Speaker of the Misty Ruins, the Captain of the Brigade and
Wizard capable of forming in to the Jaguar. We talked about hunting and the
sacrifice that a maran makes. She invited me to become a squire and I
accepted. I will take this time to learn the path of the maran so that one
day I can be so.

Now I have joined the paladin guild, a profession demanding of virtues and
code. I serve Baerinika the Pure as my religion and now committed to the
Fortress as a squire. This is a lot to take on and I have hope that my
dedication will be enough, I have faith that it will.

Chapter 3

With new training in the guild, I decided it was time I would start to strike
out the evil-doers directly. I threw myself in to a forest battle, where
evil stalkers, gnolls and taglos were wrecking havoc and harming innocent
forest guardians. There was a bit of fear as I took on a group with nothing
but my bare hands, but my courage guided me and I struck and killed many of
these creatures, often at great pains, much time I was writhing in pain or
convulsing. Saved by communing mend wounds, thanks to Baerinika again.But
I did not falter, I kept killing as many of these evil creatures, no matter
how much pain or risk to myself. I had something they did not, faith and I
knew if I was to fall, I would be revived, for I had hope as well. But most
importantly these battles showed that I had fortitude, I had the courage to
take evil on directly with fear under control.

After more time, I started to get a bit of rush, it was exciting to battle,
risk death for the greatest cause imaginable, the vanquishing of evil. I
started to deviate from how the monks of the monastery conducted themselves.
But their wisdom remained, more than ever, temperance was key to keep
control. The hunt should not be the goal, but the destruction of evil,
enjoying the hunt simply requires more resolve on the control. I am up for
that challenge and there is much evil to combat. It was only by this time did
I start to think I could be worthy of Baerinika's powers through communing.
was well known in the paladin guild that Baerinika embodied the hunt, the
savage triumph that is felt in defeating a worthy and wicked foe. Now that I
have the thrill of the hunt, I am starting to understand. I will always find
time to spread hope and give charity, but the focus now is through combat,
strength of arms, I will wreck the wicked. They have plagued our world and
mercy is insufficient, for there is a cost for their evil. There must be
retribution for the harm they have caused and I will be the one to do so,
it's my sacrifice to make and I make it.

Chapter 2

After a time, not long ago really, I was advised by a friend to visit the
Moudrilar's Monastery. I headed through infested goblins and found the
monastery. It was not what I expected, the monks were not of the light, but
nor were they evil. But there was much wisdom to be found there. I first
showed up wielding my sword because I did not know what to expect. They told
me that sword is an intention of battle and not all threats are evil. They
continued that my aggressive stance may lead to hostility that could
otherwise be prevented. Confused I suggested that an attack may come
suddenly and I need to be ready and wielded. The white-haired monk shook
his head in dismay and said what about your fists, you can learn to fight
with your hands if absolutely needed. I found this interesting but was
concerned that it may hinder my ability, while possessing fortitude helps,
regularly appearing as a ghost at the altar doesn't.

More days and nights went past and I told a group of monks about my missing
father.I explained how he pursued a new love with an elven woman that was
always hiding in the shadows except when talking about gold or treasure.
She was bad news, I always blamed her for my father going missing. The monks
had more to share, they suggested my fathers path went wrong because of
himself, not her. They said it sounded like he indulged himself too much. I
shared more about him and they were right, my father could not control his
impulses, it was always getting him in to trouble. And I may never find out
what happened to him. Before I knew it, I learnt a valuable lesson, that
even I, my fathers son, could be vulnerable to lack of control.I can have
faith in Baerinika, I can have faith in others, but for myself, I need to
possess the virtue of Temperance. It is up to me to stay focused and in
control if I am to make this a better world.

I ended up being so impressed with what the monks had given me, I went back
and spoke to the paladin guildmaster about the option of fighting without a
weapon. He smiled at me and said there was training he could teach to me
and I could vanquish evil just as well.So I decided at that moment to train
with my fists.

Chapter 1

What can I do, will I be consumed by nihilism. Will the despair of the world
wear me down. The world is awful, truly awful and where is my father? This
is how I used to think and to be fair, consider what I saw. A dark-elf
magistrate enforcing the law in town, when an innocent walked past the gates,
the dark-elf followed and magically put the innocent to sleep, then diseased,
poisoned and blinded her. A necromancer with a zombies of dwarves dragging
along behind, their groans made my stomach turn. My own fate of exploring
and then cut down and murdered by an Udgaardian patroller. But that was not
the end of my story, I thought I would be in the afterlife and see my father
and find out what happened to him. Instead, I found myself at the Vorolian
pit with consciousness intact, a ghost and after time, I reformed. This
experienced changed my life forever, I once thought death would be the end
and I am not surprised how quick it came given the evil I have witnessed.
While death took its burden, the experience gave me something very special.
It gave me hope. No matter, how evil the evil are, there is always another
chance, the hope was not just inspiration but a vaccine for despair.

There was nothing natural about becoming a ghost and slowly reforming back
with all my elvish charm. A higher power is at work. It should really not
have come as surprise, the guildmaster taught me how to mend wounds and
detect invisible, even to call a flamestrike. Where did I think this came
from. I am not sure what I thought, but it's clear now they come from a
higher power. But what higher power? During my training it was made clear
to me by the guildmaster that I was an elf of dedication. I don't know why
or how this came to be, but I feel in my core that it is somehow an accurate
description, so I accepted it. I since learnt this identity means my
supplications are gift from the great Baerinika the Pure. What kindness to
grant me these powers and I have not given her anything in return. Now with
focus for my gratitude, my faith has blossomed.My hope has rewarded me with
faith, faith that Baerinika the Pure can help me make this a better world and
that it is the right thing to do.

I've started to express my faith, to disrupt the harm of evil where I see
it. The world has no shortage of innocents that have run out of food due to
the greed of others, such as farmers unable to deliver their routes because
of centurions. I have learnt to create bread without cooking wheat. The
bread comes from Baerinika herself and I like to think when I give that
starving child some of that bread, they get a blessing as well.There is
much to do, so many to help and each time I do so, they receive hope and it
bolsters my hope a little as well.
