Kytria Vadasra the Affirmation of Life, Aesthete of the Eternal Star
DescriptionA tall human woman stands before you, dressed in simple vestments of faith. Her hazel eyes are accented by carefully applied kohl and pigments. Tresses of auburn hair fall just past her shoulders to sit atop a drab linen riding dress. An owl feather pendant flanked by a preserved branch of juniper hugs her collarbone. Her pale skin is nearly flawless, though a number of small burn scars dot her hands, indicating a life spent by a forge or oven. Her careful footsteps are muffled by a pair of worn riding boots, and she looks content.

RoleChapter 10 ______, the Innkeeper Added Sun Feb 6 16:10:38 2022 at level 25:Mother always tried to make the inn a more magical place than it truly was. Each time she picked up a bottle of wine, she would tell ______ and anyone else who would listen about the time the Sultan himself had stopped in for a drink. There had been plenty of other 'famous' folk who had spent the evening at the bar. The Harbor Master used to frequent the inn - but he had gotten too drunk and Father had banned him and all the dockworkers. That happened over a decade ago, and Mother still raved about it.
The life of an innkeeper was one of constant toil. Linens needed cleaning, food needed to be checked over, and supplies had to be ordered and picked up from the market. When you did manage to sleep, you had to pray that no drunkard would come banging on your door claiming there was 'an urgent emergency'. Then, you woke up and did it again and again. Holidays were anything but sacred, and it didn't take ______ to understand why Mother drank so often.
______ hated the life that she had been promised to. When her brothers and sisters would return home with tales of far off lands, she would daydream of her own adventures. But the Inn was -always- waiting for her - like a hideous pre-arranged marital partner that everyone else was eager to fawn over. Guilt kept her hands busy and her mind free from anger. Beneath the surface of her heart, resentment welled up and seeped into her arteries, threatening to spill outward in the blink of an eye.

RoleChapter 2 Chapter One: Conren, the First Added Thu Jan 27 12:43:12 2022 at level 3:______ didn't know much about Conren. The oldest of her four siblings spent his time looking after the group - making himself into a concerned presence that none of them had asked for. Acting as a proxy for their overworked Father, Conren's personality was mercurial at best. His visage shifted in response to whatever mischief the twins had gotten up to. His countenance brightened when Asteli followed his lead and asked for help in mastering a specific weapon technique. Tisus had confided in her that neither of their eldest siblings was very good with blades at all, but ______ didn't mind. Conren smiled with he was with Asteli and it wasn't like Tisus didn't have a chip on his shoulder. Conren was the apple of Father's eye, and instead of taking over the Inn as was expected of the first-born son, Father had allowed him to train at the Imperial Security Headquarters. The stipend was minuscule compared to what the Inn made in a good season, but Conren bought into the Imperial ideology with a fervor that reminded Father of his youth. Conren proclaimed: 'The laws just make sense, ______, you'll understand when you're older.'
Six months after Conren left Hamsah Mu'tazz, ______ was woken up in the dead of night by a sharp rap on the kitchen door. She skipped down the fourth-floor stairwell as quietly as possible, knowing that Mother would be furious if she woke the guests. Tisus and Melirene were already at the doorway, and Tisus quickly hid a faded book within the pockets of his oversized coat. Melirene shot him a loot as she opened the door. A freckle-faced boy with dusty blonde hair held out a letter and a pendant of an owl feather and held out his other hand expectantly. Tisus chuckled and threw the boy a handful of copper pieces before pulling the kitchen door shut.
Melirene collapsed to the floor and screamed, causing her twin to jolt. _____'s eyes scanned the vicinity, wondering if Mel's fingers had gotten caught in the door frame somehow. Melirene's green eyes filled with tears as she clutched the letter in her trembling hands. The agonizing keening continued - waking up all the patrons of the Inn. Mother rushed down the stairs with her hair still in those heavy steel curlers that made her look like a demon from a storybook, eyes filled with ire.
The tear-stained letter was terse. Conren had been killed in 'service to the Empire'. Half of his salary would be provided to the family for a quarter year to aid in funeral arrangements. That was it. There was no acknowledgment of the dutiful son that had his lifeblood spilled on the cobblestones. There was no explanation for the cause of death. They had even spelled his name as 'Conrenn'.

RoleChapter 3 Chapter Two: Asteli, the Second Added Thu Jan 27 12:44:40 2022 at level 3:Everything that _____ knew about Asteli changed after Conren died. The vivacious sister that had sung to the Inn patrons in a haunting mezzo was gone. Left in her place was a specter that was prone to violent rants against the Empire - which often ended with her throwing bottles of beer across the length of the bar to shatter against the kitchen doorframe. Asteli couldn't change Conren's fate, but she could damn well gnash her teeth and ensure that *everyone* in Hamsah Mu'tazz knew of her pain.
Tisus and Melirene spilled into the Inn one evening, winded and injured. Their brother was limping and the once-delicate Melirene was cursing up a blue streak as blood oozed from a cut on her forehead. Tisus pulled himself to the bar and drank a few shots of whiskey from the bottle before turning to Asteli,
"Stel, it wasn't the Empire."
He ducked as a bottle narrowly missed *his* head, but managed to continue speaking as Melirene stepped between the pair, shooting a frustrated look at her older sister. Tisus had been working in the shadows for months to get answers. None of this was his fault.
"I mean, it was... but it was a cadre of Fortress mages trying to kill the Dread Lord. There was a fireball and..."
Tisus left it at that. Did it really matter whether the spell was from an invoker or the Dread Lord? Conren's corpse was out there somewhere, with cracked and blackened skin buried in a pit with all the other Imperial hopefuls that died for the cause. ______ looked up in time to see Asteli lift up her arm in preparation to throw another bottle. She hesitated and mumbled a brief apology before taking a bottle up to her room and slamming the door.
The next morning, Mother found a letter from Asteli stuck to the dining table with an ivory hairpin. The eldest sister had decided to join the Village and defend the brave mage-slayers with her songs. It wouldn't be enough to bring back Conren, but it might make a difference. Father was relieved, Mother was distraught. Tisus and Melirene practically abandoned the Inn, leaving ______ to console Mother as their Father worked himself to the bone.
A year later, another letter arrived. This time ______ intercepted it. Tragedy repeated itself once more and the threshold of the Inn turned into a makeshift shrine for the departed. Asteli had perished in defense of the other Villagers. The Commander had scribbled a hasty line of gratitude and promised to honor her name as he 'scalped the mages that plagued Thera'. Of course, Asteli's name was nowhere to be found - she was simply 'the valiant bard'.

|
RoleChapter 4 Chapter Three: Tisus, the Third Added Thu Jan 27 12:46:01 2022 at level 3:Tisus and Melirene - once inseparable - were constantly at odds. Tisus swore that Melirene could have stopped Asteli from leaving the Inn. Why didn't she follow her sister? It wasn't a man's place to go marching up into his sister's room. This argument would have held more weight had Tisus and Melirene not shared a room for most of their childhood. Melirene was furious at Tisus for writing Asteli off. Their older sister hadn't been prepared for war - everyone knew that. If anyone could get her back from the Village, it would have been him. Instead, Tisus had shrugged and hoped that Asteli would find 'some peace in the huts'.
______ had tried to mend the divide, but they were both weary and urged her to look after Mother and Father. Tisus came and left at odd hours of the night, his body covered in bruises and welts. Melirene retreated to the sanctum that was the Inn's garden. Nestled between the stables and the sheds, she spent her days up to her elbows in dirt and vines, coaxing vegetables and flowers to sprout from the arid soil. Melirene had even convinced Father to buy a length of netting to protect the squash from the desert sands that floated upon the winds.
The twins' arguing got worse over the summer months. Tisus was convinced that the family would be safer if they stayed in the cities. Proud as could be, he had been accepted into the Tribunal as a magistrate of Hamsah Mu'tazz. He bragged about how he didn't need to go to Seantryn like the other young magistrates - *he* had knowledge of the darkened alleys that the Spire needed.
Melirene gave Tisus a wide berth - only appearing in the Inn to visit ______ if she knew Tisus was on duty or speaking to the other magistrates stationed in Galadon. ______ tried to remind Melirene that Tisus had always loved the cities, but there was no way for an outsider to mend the divide. One late night, Melirene snuck into her room, hugged her youngest sister tightly, and confessed that she would be leaving to join the Outlanders. The news was no shock to ______. If a young Tisus put his faith in the walls of the cities, his sister had pledged herself to the climbing ivy that covered the bricks. Melirene spoke up as she tightened the straps on her ratty knapsack,
"I can't tell him. He'll hate me even more... but... remind him that I love him?"
Melirene pulled ______ into her arms and hugged her, whispering a prayer to Thar-Eris for protection before ducking out of the fourth-floor window to climb to the roof. A fierce scream of pain and defiance echoed through the starlit night. Melirene was gone too.

RoleChapter 5 Chapter Four: Melirene, the Fourth Added Thu Jan 27 12:46:56 2022 at level 3:Tisus hadn't taken the news of Melirene's departure well at all. With nothing to lose, he screamed at Father and blamed him for the schism. Mother was too high on pipeweed and alcohol to argue, and Father lashed out at Tisus, landing a solid punch to his youngest son's shoulder. Their rage echoed through the stables as they came to blows. ______ was finally able to pull Tisus away, though she received an elbow to her right eye for the effort, causing her vision to blur as she collapsed into the hay. At the sound of her pained screams, Father stepped away, ordering Tisus to fix 'another one of his messes'.
Fainting spells became common for _____, and the Healer's Guild had no easy answers. It was clear that the barn scuffle had caused the trauma, but there was no amount of prayer that kept her from slipping into unconsciousness at the drop of hat.
A year of relative peace passed, and _____ started to believe that the twins had each found a path that worked. She had started writing letters to them both, assuring them that Mother and Father were... fine. _____ brought up Serith too - a healer of Azorinne that she had met while trying to find a cure for her fainting spells.
The family found out about Tisus' passing from a beleaguered Provincial magistrate that had wandered to the Drunken Efreeti. The owner had directed the man to 'the other Inn' with haste, and ______ answered the door to receive a linen-wrapped bundle. Tisus' journal, favorite coat, and a dried juniper bough were carefully stacked within the package. ______ dropped it, screaming, as the magistrate anxiously explained a raid on the Outlanders that had gone awry.
The magistrate said that Tisus had spied Melirene through the trees and hesitated. An arrow pinned his shoulder to a nearby oak tree, and Reavers had descended upon him in an instant, calling down a typhoon and lightning to destroy the promising young thief. Melirene had rushed to his side, barely coherent as she tried to save a corpse with freshly picked herbs. Disgusted by her weakness and love for a magistrate, she had been expelled from the Tree.
Two days later, Melirene had returned under the light of a full moon to the Inn's garden. With a withered collection of plants at her feet, Melirene plunged a shark tooth dagger into her wrist, waking up the family with a final scream of her brother's name as she collapsed to the earth. ______ ran to her window in time to see Melirene collapse and breathe her last agonized breath.

|
RoleChapter 6 Chapter Five: Serith, the Fifth Added Thu Jan 27 12:47:45 2022 at level 3:Serith picked up what was left of ______. The healer-priestess of Azorinne held her as she screamed and sobbed. Serith whispered words of reassurance and reminded her that she still had reasons to go on. Together, they built a small shrine to Melirene and the others at the edge of the garden. Serith had met ______ after the injury and checked in on her weekly, sensing the deep pain that went beyond a simple injury of the flesh.
Rather than let her languish at the Inn, Serith showed her the prayers of her guild, urging her to simply try praying to the divine. "They're listening, even if it feels like no one else is", Serith would always say. They spent two years together, with ______ getting accepted into the guild just before Serith was called to the southern gates to aid a group of Fortress members. Serith belonged to no cabal, but the Maran had assumed that a healer would aid them. Serith did so, but not before hugging ______ goodbye and making her promise that she would practice her prayers.
The guildmistress woke ______ the next morning and a feeling of dread ricocheted through her slight body, causing ______ to hyperventilate before the older healer spoke. The news was as she had feared: Serith had died trying to save one of the Maran. The Scions had gathered at the base of the Chasm and routed the Fortress, causing them to flee before they could secure the Scepter. Serith was left at the bottom of the Chasm, cursed and fighting three nightwalkers. The Maran had tried to save her, but they weren't willing to die for her - not like Serith had been willing to die for them.
Kytria wept for days and punched the walls until her knuckles were a mess of torn flesh and blood. She refused to pray for aid and wallowed in her pain instead, grieving Serith in the only way she knew how. After a month of agony, she returned to her family home. The Healer's Guild reminded her of Serith... and Serith reminded her of all the tragedy in her life.

RoleChapter 7 Chapter Six: ______ the Sixth Added Thu Jan 27 12:48:33 2022 at level 3:She had spent many moons trying to console Mother and Father. They were as broken as she was, and could only find the energy to drink and tend to the chores of the Inn. Eventually, ______ realized that Mother would cling to her until they both suffocated.
______ left in the night, abandoning her ruined family home as her brothers and sisters had before her. Grief echoed her steps as she crossed the streets of Hamsah, recalling every alley that provided a home during hide-and-seek. The voices of her siblings were already lost to her, dulled by the passing of time. Her memories of them were reduced to quotes spoken in her mind, in her own inner voice. With effort, ______ could remember Conren's tense smile or Melirene's bright eyes. With even more effort still, she could pretend that her Mother and Father wouldn't be gutted by her departure.
Conren. Asteli. Tisus. Melirene. Serith.
They were all gone. Had they been next to her, they would urge her to move forward. Did it matter if she did? There was no joy to be found in Thera. Monsters waited in every guild and cabal, clinging to their righteousness and causes as if *their* dedication would be strong enough to win a war. The world was filled with disposable siblings and hopeful souls that were ground into dust and reduced to a few lines in a letter.
The girl who was once-_____ fashioned a new identity from the agony that was etched into her memories.
With no one left to remember her, she would call herself Kytria.

|
RoleChapter 8 Chapter Seven: Kytria, the First, pt 1 Added Thu Jan 27 12:49:49 2022 at level 3:Kytria found her way to the Inn of the Eternal Star after hearing the voice of a bard echoing to the edges of East Sumner's Road. Her voice was reminiscent of Asteli's, and the prospect of refilling her flask of wine was a welcome one. When she stepped inside the Inn, Kytria was reminded of home in the form of a not-home. The once-______ came flooding back into her memory and she dug her fingertips into the doorframe as a storm giant bouncer looked at her with concern. A less-than-helpful server swished by and spoke up,
"Lass, if you're going to hurl, do it off the porch, not in here."
Her vision narrowed to the coat rack directly in front of her. Overwhelmed, Kytria's mind pulled her towards unconsciousness as a surge of pain flared in her orbital socket. She crumpled to the ground next to the Inn's aging dog, who yipped and licked her arm.
-
When she came to, Kytria found herself in between the bard, a taleteller, and Olin. The first offered her a glass of wine, while the taleteller opted for a cup of warm tea. Kytria grabbed the tea, then the wine, and drank a healthy swig of both as the trio introduced themselves. They were delightful hosts, reminding her of the feast days when the whole family had helped out at the Inn. When the questions turned to her, Kytria froze.
She had no answers. In creating a name for herself, she had forgotten to craft an identity around the name. She pushed away the questions with a mention of the searing headache, and the taleteller offered up a diagnosis of amnesia.
That would work. Kytria nodded weakly and continued to sip at her tea as she observed the Inn from a distance, gazing at it from behind a wall inside her mind. Was she a coward for seeking a place that reminded her of home? Probably.

|
RoleChapter 9 Chapter Seven: Kytria, the First, pt 2 Added Thu Jan 27 12:50:13 2022 at level 3:As she looked across the tables to the crackling fireplace, Kytria saw a glimmer of her future lurking within the shadows of the flames. She would be at home here, and beholden to none of the cabals that had destroyed those she loved. In this place, she could listen to the stories of other adventurers and help them find meaning - and remembrance - in their pain. If she didn't remind them of what it would feel like to lose the voices of the lost, who would?
She continued to stare, allowing the voices of the Heralds to fall to the wayside as they spoke of a dragon that they had killed. She saw Melirene's fallen body, Conren's pendant, and Tisus' coat within the darkness, demanding something from her. They screamed with voices that were not their own, demanding that a price be paid. Remembrance alone was not enough. Memories would not expose the caballed hypocrites for the lives they had destroyed. Kytria knew that she could. She could judge the living... and let the unworthy slip away, isolated from her prayers that would turn the tide of the fight.
With her mind made up, Kytria began to craft a new version of herself - one made of patchwork stories and tales that she had repeated since she was young. She was Kytria, the charismatic daughter of a sailor who had died in a tragic kraken attack. She was here to counsel others and heal the wounds of the soul. She would listen to everyone and learn of those who stood by and watched her siblings perish. In time, the world would know her pain. In time, they would face the true cost of their wars and promises.

RoleChapter 1 Prologue: A Feast Added Thu Jan 27 12:42:10 2022 at level 3:It had been a half-year since the family sat around the same table for dinner. Mother fretted and placed heaping plates of food on the dining table - including fresh rolls slathered with butter and herbs - those were Asteli's favorite. Father presided over the din, eyeing a spatchcocked hen as Tisus managed to pilfer a few pastries from a smaller table that was nestled into the far corner of the room. Mother sighed at Tisus as she turned the corner to see Melirene stuffing her cheeks with the apricot-glazed tart. The twins had always been inseparable - and Tisus would always take the blame for his sister. Unknown to Tisus, Melirene would return hours later to placate their father's anger at 'the rowdy hellion'. Conren, the oldest, steepled his hands on the table as he addressed _____, grilling the youngest sibling on her plans for choosing a guild. He spoke emphatically, reminding her that she couldn't stay inside the comfort of the Inn forever - Mother and Father wanted to retire soon. Mother hushed him and tapped a spoon on a wine glass, causing the family to fall silent. Her eyes filled with tears as she turned to Conren,
"I know you're leaving to work in the Imperial City, but you must come visit us. We don't have these dinners often enough."
Conren smiled and promised her that he would as Asteli rolled her eyes and reached for a roll. Father cleared his throat loudly and Asteli pulled her hand away. Mother continued,
"I love you all, and I've missed having you here. I know you're busy with your studies... but you don't need to stay away every night, do you?"
Mother's eyes overflowed with tears and _____ shifted in her seat, knowing that she would be leaving for her own adventuring guild in just a few short weeks. Father's resolve broke, and he reached for the cornish hen, distracting Mother from her tears as she moved to his side to help him.
The next few hours continued as they always had. Nostalgia laced revelry made the small space feel like the home that _____ had spent the last five years pining for. For a single blessed night, all of their troubles and petty squabbles were forgotten.

RoleChapter 11 Kytria, the Herald Added Sun Feb 6 16:11:12 2022 at level 25:After joining the Inn, Kytria has found her place among a strange assortment of Heralds. Two paladins pull her towards the path of righteousness, but she is more focused on using the recent death of Atrissa to conjure a specter of the bard within the Inn. She badgers the others with questions of how they will remember her, and leaves trinkets where they will spark memories of Atrissa's absence. She has tested her 'game of morality' with a collection of dolls, but most Therans are too focused on the force that would kill the bystanders - not those who will actually perish. Kytria feels that this is further proof that adventurers distance themselves from Loss and pledges to continue her work.
She journeyed to the Cathedral to pray to Rahsael. She wasn't expecting a warm welcome and found herself paralyzed by uncertainty. She knew how followers of the God of Loss were normally dismissed and ignored... but did that make her deceptive path worthwhile? The doll was right - living two lives isn't sustainable. Kytria gambles on the hope that being liked will allow her to subtly preach the tenets of Loss to those who come to her seeking comfort. In time, she hopes to reveal Thera's love (and need) for Loss, along with all the hypocrisies evident in the cabals. She struggles with the love she has for the other Heralds, but she recognizes that Loss will help them in the same way it helped her. A life without change is a stagnant one, and they should be grateful for the opportunity to live and learn from their pain.

RoleChapter 12 ______, the Follower Added Wed Feb 16 10:23:02 2022 at level 46:______ followed her brothers and sisters around from the time she could walk, desperate to have a best friend that wasn't Mother. Conren was too busy, and would send her out of his room so that he could practice his fighting forms with Asteli. Her oldest sister was a bit more kind, and would sneak into ______'s room late at night to demonstrate a few of the simpler stances. Eventually, they'd both fall asleep from sheer exhaustion, but Asteli would always test her on her ability to recall her footwork a few weeks later. Melirene and Tisus included her in a few of their adventures, but when they climbed up the walls of the guilds, they'd stare down at her from the rooftops. Tisus was the first one to break the news to her:
"How are we supposed to show you these secret places when you can't even keep up with us? You're going to get us caught. Go practice, and let us know when you're brave enough to scale the sides of the Palace."
When Mother and Father were busy ordering supplies, ______ would sneak out back and try to climb the sides of the stable walls. With bruised knees and splintered-pierced hands, she would throw herself at the wooden slats, digging her fingertips into crevices that pinched hard enough to leave blood blisters. By the time she was skilled enough to try and climb the palace walls, Tisus and Melirene spent most of their days within their own guilds, and their promise to her was forgotten.
Mother would remind her that she always had a home at the Inn, but that wasn't what ______ wanted. All of her siblings were out making coin and swapping stories while she was learning to bake butter cookies for guests. It wasn't fair that she was born last. If *she* had a sibling, she'd take them on all the adventures in the world. Why didn't they do the same for her?
Friendships with other children in Hamsah Mu'tazz were left to wither as her companions were pulled away on merchant ships or trips to Galadon. Everyone had a purpose - and no one ever put ______ above the expectations of their family.

RoleChapter 13 Kytria, the Counselor Added Wed Feb 16 10:26:37 2022 at level 46:After speaking with the doll about the nature of Loss, Kytria is re-energized. She now feels confident in her ability to gain the trust of her fellow adventurers and to manifest Lost in a world filled with non-believers. She struggles with the gifts of her guild - it is easy to keep others alive, and she enjoys the feeling of being needed. The warning given to her by the doll sits in her mind, and she tries to always have a plan, though she often fails in ways she did not anticipate.
Her memories of Conren falling in service to the Empire push her to action, and she hopes that her pain with echo in the walls of the Palace. She has tried convincing the Shadow Lord, Ceva, to abandon the cabal. The assassin is too dedicated, so Kytria has pivoted and is now trying to start a coup by beseeching Vimalg and Ceva to rid themselves of the unstable Empress. She reminds them that their reputations are tied to Sadeha, and that the Empress has not hesitated to punish those who displease her.
Kytria also works with Dichael, counseling him as he seeks the path to righteousness. While she is unconvinced that he has what it takes, she is eager to see what will become of the curious shaman if he abandons the wickedness in his soul. There is no losing - he will experience Loss with whatever choice he makes - or if he makes none at all. He trusts her, and has told her of one of his darkest secrets - that he initially planned to offer his soul and part of the Spirit of the Refuge to the demons of hell.
Her work at the Inn continues and she has learned to paint portraits in order to remind the living of what they no longer have. Her first work was a painting of Odren and Atrissa together, which he seems to cherish. Every Herald she has adventured with has fallen, save for Zicci, but she struggles with guilt after the fact. Is the Loss they experience truly helping them? Can she still remain part of the family even as she hurts them?
Lastly, Kytria plans for a roast at the Inn. With no adventurers or dieties excluded, she hopes that the jokes will cause strife between the cabals and their members. The jokes will be true, but the paper-thin skin of the adventurers will surely be wounded when they hear how they are perceived.

RoleChapter 14 ______, the Apparition Added Mon Feb 28 15:39:34 2022 at level 51:The Healer's guild never recovered Serith's body. Instead, they gathered her journal and prayer beads from her personal chambers and placed them on an altar devoted to the Gods and Goddesses of the Light. Her possessions remained atop the altar for three days, and ______ stopped by on the final day to say goodbye to her friend. As she left, an aging priestess called out her name. Pretending not to hear, ______ ran back towards the Inn, tears blurring her vision as she darted through the streets.
Mother's voice rang out from the kitchen as she slipped through the back door of the Inn. "______, is that you? I need help with these potatoes. Get in here." Her hour of mourning was over. It had taken a lie for Mother to let her leave the Inn, and there was no way that 'Erik, the dockhand' would need two batches of cookies in the span of a week. ______ placed some silver on the table and muttered something about Erik loving the cookies before she turned to the basket of half peeled potatoes by the sink. She grabbed the peeler and focused on the potatoes, desperately trying to ignore Mother's oft-repeated story of when Tisus and Melirene had stolen a bag of potatoes from the Sultan's own caravan. Mother didn't like being ignored, so she simply spoke over ______'s humming until her daughter screamed and threw one of the potatoes at a collection of pans before stomping upstairs.
Mother's voice followed her as she slammed the door to her room shut,
"You know, I lost my brother when I was your age and you don't see me throwing a fit. Tisus and Melirene would remember you. You can't stay like this forever. They knew what they were riski--"
Mother finally stopped when she heard the window above ______'s room shatter from the force of the chair that her daughter had slammed into it.
______ was left to haunt the Inn on her own for a week. Mother and Father brought food to her door as she tried to carve small figurines for each of her siblings and for Serith. The words of a Shaman that followed Rahsael came to her mind often during that week:
"Those that avoid confronting their Loss bleed more readily than those who embrace it. Either way, both bleed."

RoleChapter 15 Kytria, the Ghost Added Mon Feb 28 15:42:06 2022 at level 51:Kytria has seen many of her plans fall apart. The Roast, while fun, did not start any cross-cabal fighting. Her place at the Inn remains mostly the same, though she lacks the motivation to paint or decorate. She found momentary happiness - and something close to affection - in a connection with Dohri, but realized that it would end in pain. As a result, she hurt Dohri intentionally - telling the Elder Prophet that she had killed elves while attaining the pinnacle of her guild. Knowing that this wasn't enough, Kytria also reminded Dohri of her own crimes against her elven kin. Dohri will no longer speak to her, and Kytria feels relief and anguish in equal measure. Will all of her relationships end similarly?
For now, she attempts to regain her confidence in her art and to make sense of her feelings towards her remaining family. All the distractions in the world won't allow her to forget the apparitions of Mother and Father. She hopes to work through the pain from both of her lives by painting a family portrait. Pressure to act claws at her consciousness - reminding her of her pledges at the Cathedral. Precious years are wasting away, and the name Daucora is known to few. Living as a tormented ghost does little to bring Loss into the world, and Kytria ruminates on this daily.

RoleChapter 16 ______, the Drunkard Added Fri Mar 18 12:32:25 2022 at level 51:In the time between Serith's death and her flight from the Inn, ______ found solace in the cheap wine that Mother enjoyed the most. If her daughter's newfound habit bothered her parents, they never spoke of it. ______ would drink with Mother as they did chores in the kitchen, grateful for the haze in her mind that settled over her memories of Serith. They sang songs together, slurring and laughing as they scrubbed dried mashed vegetables off the sides of pans. When the work was done, Mother would grab a bottle of wine and retire to her bedroom to read. ______ would grab her own and sneak out the back door a few hours later.
These late night forays into the dark streets of Hamsah Mu'tazz were not particularly fun for ______. One on occasion, she was mugged by a group of teens holding steel shanks, though she was only carrying her wine. The prostitutes didn't even call out to her when she stumbled through the city square and ran to vomit in the river. They whispered to each other and regarded her with pitying expressions that made her want to throw the bottle at them. ______ continued to drink the evenings away, fighting off the pain of her childhood with enough cheap booze to guarantee she would pass out without spending a moment sifting through her memories.
Her love of wine quickly turned into an addiction and she was assailed by splitting headaches when she tried to stop. Mother and Father needed her to care for them - the Inn was pulling in fewer regulars. Kytria attempted to quit more than once, but even a few hours without wine made her feel like the world was suffocating her. How did people ever stay sober?
After a wasted ______ dropped a bowl of soup on the lap of one of the Sultan's favored concubines, no locals wanted to be seen at the Inn. Mother and Father would argue late into the night about her. Father wanted to send ______ to Seantryn, Mother screeched that he couldn't send their youngest daughter away to die. So, ______ stayed as the Inn (and her family) continued to fall apart.

|
RoleChapter 17 Kytria, the Teacher Added Fri Mar 18 12:33:04 2022 at level 51:Many of Kytria's confidants and companions have perished, including Odren and Pierri. She misses Pierri the most and wonders if her reclusiveness was part of why he disappeared from the Inn. Dohri still speaks of loving Kytria even though Kytria has tried to push the Prophet away. Most recently, Kytria took Dohri to Land's End, made Dohri promise that she wouldn't be upset, and then took her own life. Predictably, Dohri was quite shaken. Kytria explained that since Dohri has seen her corpse, she should not hesitate to strike if they ever faced off in a battle. Dohri has taken to calling her insane and now plans to write Kytria an argumentative letter instead of a love letter. Kytria knows that Elder Prophet will still hesitate, and it bothers her immensely that Dohri believes so blindly in love and goodness.
In an attempt to take her mind off of Dohri, Kytria journeyed with the Emperor to Trothon. She tries to pull him from the Empire, but he remains steadfast with his allies that do not care for him. In her heart, she knows that Ceva losing his place within the Empire would change his life for the better. Once they reached the top of the tower, Kytria drew from the Deck of Many Things three times in total - hoping to strand the Emperor and Kredge in the Tower... and failed in that.
Kytria's spirits were lifted when Jessamine returned to the Inn. The dog did not greet her and her fears were realized when Jessamine ambled back to the refuge in Aubade without so much as looking at Kytria. Why would Jessamine wait for her and then leave? At the same time, Kastravan - a promising scribe-bard of the Fortress (according to Dohri) - came to the Inn with the intention of drinking with Kytria. Overcome with pain at Jessamine leaving, she informed Kastravan that she didn't drink. The bard ignored her ill mood and pointed statements, so Kytria asked him to journey with her to the Sea of Despair. He trusted her to pray over him, and she gave him some seaweed to eat. They plunged into the ocean together. Kytria put Kastravan into a healing sleep, prayed for cancellation of his water breathing, and watched as he began to drown in his sleep. She took the time he was asleep to lecture him via yelling - that she really did mean that she didn't drink on nights she was sad, because she was prone to doing upsetting things. Unable to watch him drown in earnest, she worded him home. He was very upset at this 'petty' display and seemed to learn nothing from the whole scenario. He hesitates on building a friendship with Kytria, as he should.
Why are all those that reside within the Hall of Golden Sun so eternally blind? She has no answer for this and for the many other questions that occupy her mind.

RoleChapter 18 Kytria, the Outcast Added Mon Apr 4 10:28:48 2022 at level 51:Over time, Kytria's worries about her relationships won out over her desire to keep her faith hidden. She wished Gwendelya to know who she truly was so Kytria broke the news to her dearest friend Sazven. Sazven saw no difference between the two Kytrias. This unconditional acceptance made her too hopeful for her interactions with the High Herald and Dohri. Both were gutted by the confession. In a split second decision, Kytria committed to a final lie to Gwen. Kytria told the High Herald that she had intentionally killed her 'once or twice'. In truth, Kytria had never been able to harm Gwendelya in that way. She tried to bring Loss to the Inn in other ways, but the only time the duo fell together was an honest mistake.
Gwendelya was distraught, according to the words of Rarywey, who supported the High Herald's decision to remove Kytria from the Heralds. Kytria was removed only minutes before she held a trivia event at the Inn, leaving her little time to process her pain at the dismissal. While she understands why she was removed, it still pains her and has led to no shortage of bitterness. Her removal from the Inn justified her decision to hide. Her greatest fear was being removed from the Heralds, and she has lived long enough to see it come true. In her new existence as a caballess healer, Kytria is not as lonely as she expected, though her life is far less pleasant. Now, her conversations are either arguments or difficult discussions as she fights to justify her faith and decisions, though she knows it is almost pointless to try.
She has no plans, and even though Gwendelya has offered her a chance to rejoin the Inn, she is deeply uncertain of whether it is the right choice. Are they still her family? Would she be betraying her ideals to lose and then run right back to try and fix it?
