Chapter 1

During an adventure traveling to the wastes below the sea of despair, Manethrall and his companions
Beaux and Guarapo encountered difficulty. While he did not act cowardly, still those with him
died, and he viewed it as a failure. He spent much time in prayer at the shrine of his Lord, Ordasen,
seeking to expiate his sin, his failure. Beaux and Guarapo did not hold him responsible, and indeed
both told him it was not his fault, but he believes himself to be held to a higher standard, both as
a member of the paladin guild, and as a follower of Ordasen. It remains to be seen whether he continues
to seek some sort of task or punishment to make up for his errors, or if he can re-assert his own
strength and move on, accepting the failure but becoming the stronger for it on his own.

Chapter 2

During his years of feeling shame and the veiled accusations of his peers,
Manethrall was so overwhelmed by anger and shame that the only way he could
cope was to act in the reverse. He lives the creed that one should laugh
in the face of anguish, smile at adversity. He is scrupulously polite, and
he is apt to smile rather than frown. He hides hurt this way, but in truth
it has also become part of him and it is genuine friendliness in the face
of the gruesome war against the dark he wages.

Chapter 3

Not an easy life, growing up the son of a traitor. No matter how nice
everyone is, no matter how painstakingly they work to treat you normally,
still there is no way around the almost-hidden glances, the whispers they
think you cannot hear, the not-quite-trusting feeling you get from all
who call you friend.

This has been the life of Manethrall. His father, Berethall, failed himself
and his people and his god when he ran from battle, dropping his weapons
in fear as his position was soon to be overrun. His cowardice and traitorous
behavior cost the lives of scores of fellow giants and an entire band of
elves who were fighting alongside their age old allies. The shame of
this behavior has stuck with Manethrall, though there is no lawful or tribal
attainder. None hold him responsible, but none forget, either.
