|
Malzhaalohn Uak Bbohta the Affable Invigilator of Justice, Provincial Magistrate
DescriptionThis human stands an almost dwarfish four and a half feet in height. But here is where the similarity with dwarves ends. Where his red-brown skin shows, it glows with a somewhat unhealthy oily glow, and his form is thin almost to the point of emaciation. His hair is of the deepest, purist pitch in color and hangs down to the middle of his back with such a straightness so as to make it look almost fake like a wig. His bangs are cut off in a line straight across right above his eyebrows. The flat, squashed facial features sit upon a head that seems almost too large for this body.

RoleChapter 14 Role outline, short summary. Added Fri Oct 8 14:50:13 2004 at level 1:**Background story loosely inspired by "clan of the cave bear"**
Background: Was a slave, saved the chief's son, and was Damned for it. Intense sense of pride in being able to survive on his own without the clan. First impulse was an "if I'm damned, I'm going to take the world with me" drive. Lead to the path down towards evil. As his education progressed, this underlying dark urge in him became more attuned to the injustice of what happened..and he began to focus more on Justice.
Personality: Inside:Has deeply surpressed suspicion that he is a latent homosexual. Deep, burning rage at his own damnation. Intense pride in his own strength and self-sufficiency. Everyone he meets is a pawn in his own designs. Definately a "superiority complex".
Outside: Cheery. Strikingly effeminate at times. Very friendly. Lies often and freely to anyone he does not respect, especially to keep up the facade of a cheery, friendly person. Has a tendancy to whistle cheery tunes to himself, especially during something particularly Nefarious....such as being elbow deep in entrails and dead bodies.
Why Tribunal? He was damned by an unjust world. He is going to bring justice to that world whether they like it or not, and the more they squirm the better.
Ok...but why Tribunal and not empire then? Basically...ego. He can talk his way into Tribunal, and use it as a tool to his purposes. But to join the Empire, he has to swear away his soul, life, and heart to other mortals, almost all of whom he has nothing but contempt for. While he will lie often and freely, his background lends him to have a strong belief in the strength of a "true oath". And he will not turn himself into a slave again.
He thinks he will get inducted on that? No. He doesn't. He doesn't expect whoever the provost is to understand the benefit he will be to the Spire. So it's simple. He will only show his cheery side, and will make up stuff he knows the Provost wants to hear.
Last name: Uak Bbohta. Roughly translates as "Slave who was Damned." It was a title given to him at the time of his damnation and shunning, but he has grown to love it, as it serves as a constant reminder to himself of the Injustice latent in the world, and he has taken that epithet meant as a curse to be his very name.

RoleChapter 13 Childhood to Damnation. Added Thu Oct 14 15:56:47 2004 at level 24:Malzhaalohn was born in a small clan in a large jungle. While he was a baby, a stronger clan destroyed his own clan, and as was custom between clans, took all of the children as slaves.
Because of his youth, he was raised in the Women's hut, and some of his earliest cloudy memories were of how his Mothers would fall all over themselves for a certain man and his son, the Chief and the Chief's son. This automatic regard, especially for the chief's son, ingrained itself in him, and although he was too young to understand...he fell in love with the chief's son.
Although he himself was too young to understand or even know this, his eyes followed the Chief's son, and it was obvious to everyone else. And the chief's son grew to hate him. But he was a slave, and unless the Slave betrayed his status, the Chief's son could do nothing.
When Malzh was still young, not yet ten years old, his new clan came under attack. The Chief was slain quickly, and the chief's son was about to be, but Malzh grabbed a sword and threw it to the Son, who used it well and saved the whole clan, and became chief. And he saw his chance.
You see, it was technically against the law for a slave to touch a weapon, and even though he only touched it to give it to the Chief's son to save his life...he had broken the law.
This was the first taste that Malzhaalohn had of the difference between law and Justice. The now Chief ordered the clan's shaman to proclaim Malzhaalohn Damned.
In his primitive society, such a proclamation was known to be a combination of social shunning, and a true damnation of the soul. Noone who was damned lived long in the jungle without the aid of the clan.
But something hardened within Malzh. What it was was a combination of things. Partly his scorned and spurned love, much of it was his sense of a grand injustice done to him...but he decided he would NOT die, but live.
It is also possible that the madness of burning anger that he fell into also helped, but he did survive, he made it out of the Jungle, and the very fact that he has lived is a source of great pride for him.
In his culture, there were three kinds of Recognized madness. Those who create their own worlds within their own heads...the "Simpleton". Those who lose all connection between right and wrong...the "Mad". And the most feared...those of the Mad who have had the strength to crawl back to rationality...and then consciously choose evil....the "Diabolical".
At first, and for some time, Malz slipped to the border of becoming one of the Mad. The only clear though that burned in his mind was "If I am damned, let the whole WORLD be damned!"
It was in this mindset that he krept into the Clan at night and cut throats and poisoned and smothered until he was surrounded by nothing but death. As he stood there, covered in the blood of those he had loved, he felt and understood the Emptiness of being one of the Mad.
And here is where his inner strength allowed him to claw his way back to rationality, he understood that this direct kind of revenge was shallow. It was Injustice in the world that had allowed what happened to him. And it was Injustice that still existed.
And he knew, Justice is never very comfortable, especially to peoples who live firmly with Injustice.

RoleChapter 11 Lieing his way into the Spire...with a twist. Added Thu Oct 14 16:22:34 2004 at level 24:The first Magistrate he spoke to, was a stupid giant...and a paladin at that. The questions he asked about the law and situations of enforcement were assinine and a child could have answered them. So, Malzh approached him with nothing but sweet friendship. And this worked.
The second he spoke to, was a Provincial, Salsipuedes. Not so much of a moron, but he only wanted to know if Malzh would be a presence. No questions just show up. So he did this.
But GODS...is this the kind of Magistrate they are hiring? He is going to be surrounded by morons and Simpletons ...and this isn't actually a bad thing, for his purposes. For the more his fellow magistrates mess up, the more Malzh can act as a smoothing influence...gathering alliances.
The third he spoke to, was an Elf Provincial, Elisdin. Malzh knew right away that the mindless sweetness that he used with Salsipuedes and Zachaury would not work with this one. He knew elves were uppity. So instead of being only sweet, he made sure he argued with the Elf, he made sure that he disagreed on at least one point. Oh, not in a way that would cause hate, but to show the Elf that he could think for himself. And this also worked.
Finally, he was speaking to the Provost. For the Provost, Malzh became the son of a chieftain who wanted peace and order for his own studies. and then, the Provost threw him something for which he was not prepared.
The Provost demanded an oath to the Spire. Hrm. Malzh believed in the true binding power of Oaths. So he carefully worded his oath, to allow him the widest possible course of actions in the future.
His oath was to always act in a way that benefitted the Spire. And it was enough. He was in.....Now...he must learn, he must grow. But first, he must take advantage of his time in the quiet city of the Empress....

RoleChapter 10 Love of his craft. Added Thu Oct 14 16:33:28 2004 at level 24:Malzh has grown to love his craft. Every bit of it. And while there is a bit of bald desire to live forever in his goal to reach the pinnacle of his guild, there is also no small genuine desire to learn all of the intricacies of his art, and to become a True master of his craft.
This, combined with his studies that has led him to believe that many of his guild who have ultimately failed, failed for similar reasons. Many of them just wanted eternity, but were not willing, or able, to learn what was first necessary.
How did they expect to survive the move to Undeath, if they did not fully understand all that a Mortal could know? How did they expect to survive becoming linked forever to the Negative material plane, if they did not explore all of the available links to that plane before hand?
It is this belief and understanding, that drives him to spend hours in study, revelling in each tiny insight. Especially in the spells that touch directly upon undeath or upon direct Negative power.
This is why he believes his time in such a quiet city as Seantryn, at least while he is still young, is a blessing, as it gives him time to study, and grow towards the True Mastery that he desires.

|
RoleChapter 8 Beginning to test the waters of Politics. Added Fri Oct 15 20:45:24 2004 at level 24:Malzhaalohn saw that the Outlanders had the Scales. He noticed that only Tyke was defending, and that Zachaury the paladin was about.
So Malzh convinced Zachaury to go with him to strike the Huntress, because only good would come of it. If the Scales were returned, it was Malzh's idea and impetus. If Zachaury fell...well, then Malzh had gotten Zachaury back for asking such stupid questions during the interview to get into the Spire.
That was when a golden opportunity showed itself. The Empirial blade Konzmonde, and the empirial shadow Zhacur were there to retrieve their own Codex.
So, Malzh talked them into letting Malzh join them, in effect, convincing them to retrieve the Scales for the Tribunal. With nothing offered in payment.
Malzh did not waste this opportunity, He spoke with the Blade, asking him how his Lord Grurk would feel if he found out that Konzmonde retrieved the scales for the Spire.....
Malzh then, in return for his continued silence, told the blade that in the future, he might be required to be an ally behind the scenes.
After some long talk. Konzmonde refused blatantly. So, Malzh will speak with the Shadow. Konzmonde is under the belief that the Lord Grurk is Forgiving, and will see that it was the Shadow who technically joined Malzh to their group.
So...although Zhacur is not about to be spoken to, Malzh will send him a scroll, and convince Zhacur to join Malzh in blaming what happened on Konzmonde. For that stupid giant will learn, one way or another... sooner or later....what it is to stand against Malzhaalohn.
He is convinced that Zhacur will play by this story, for if he does not, then the truth will come out that it was indeed him who broke the law of his own sect.

|
RoleChapter 7 Religious life? Added Sat Oct 16 04:10:32 2004 at level 25:For most of his youth so far, Malzh has not even thought about religion. Mainly because he was damned...and that pretty much answered that, in the belief system that he grew up in. And then, the situation with the Empirials happened.
At first, he was going to claim to follow the Lord Grurk in the note just to lend extra credence to his argument. But the more he thought about it...the more thoughts of the Lord of Justice filled his mind.
And so he studied. Histories of the Gods, of Lord Grurk in particular. Of how the Gods have interacted with those of his own guild. And he has come to the decision that he wishes indeed to seek out the Lord of Justice.
Malzh may lie freely to others, but he never lies to himself. And he knows there is more than one reason that has led to his decision. He is not quite sure in what quantities these motivations hold...but he knows they exist.
One, is that while he read of the Lords of light, especially of Shokai, scares him deep down to the core. And he knows that the only protection possible from such a terrible God, is to become a tool for an Evil god to use. A useful tool.
Another, is that being known as a follower of a God tends to advance the respect that you get from strangers, a fact that Malzh can use.
Another, is the fact that Grurk in particular is a Lord of the Empire, and being known as his follower might lend weight to furthor attempts to "politik" with empirials.
But, and realizing this was indeed a shock to Malzh, Malzh had never thought that there might be a God who might like to see him succeed in bringing Justice to the Entire world. This was a pleasant surprise, that lends him a genuine desire to get to know and follow the God that is the Lord over what is Malzh's own quest in life. And this is the main reason he will seek out the Lord Grurk.
He will begin to seek out his new Lord, in a place that reminds him of his home, and of the occurances in his own past that have started him on this road. He will begin to seek out his Lord from a place imbued with Unholiness, in the Swamp of Ysigrath, as it has a bit of the Feel of his home Jungle.
He also plans on killing all of the K'sra, embalming their various parts, and stacking them in that place. Oh...not for any reason. Just that the sight and smell of stacked bodies is pleasing to him, and he thinks it will be fun, no deeper than that.

RoleChapter 6 Setbacks. Added Tue Nov 9 23:14:07 2004 at level 45:Damn Althrsis. Literally. Malzhaalohn has spent more than a small amount of time cursing his name to any demons listening, in the hopes that his soul is forever tormented.
Malzhaalohn had hoped that Althrsis would remain Provost long enough for Malzhaalohn to gain notariety and standing the the Spire, so that he would be in place to perhaps gain the position himself, as there are many things he would change.
But no. Althrsis left the Spire. And Zachaury got the post. At first, this was only a minor irratation to Malzhaalohn, but two things have conspired to turn this into something more.
At first, Malz's dislike of Zachaury did not go beyond the normal disdain for all other beings, perhaps with a bit of a believe that he was particularly stupid.Now...there is a more severe and personal distaste.
Two criminal villagers entered Galadon. One Malz could touch, and Acaga, who he could not. Malz notified the Provost, and Elisdin.
He then proceeded to lock the one he could touch in a room, and lured him to sleep, and played all sorts of fun upon his body...
But, for two reasons, he asked the others to leave the locked villager for himself. First, His God has instructed him to hunt alone, and in any situation possible, he will attempt this, even while on duty. Secondly, the other two needed to take care of Acaga.
But no. The Provost and Elisdin cowered in the Spire from Acaga, but when Malz had to rest shortly before finishing off the other, they rushed out to kill the one Malzh had all but finished...despite being asked not to.
And what do they do then? Back to the Spire, while Acaga rampaged about Galadon, manacled.
Normally, this personal severe dislike of the Provost would not matter, Malzh would just wait him out. But he is beginning to feel the press of time.He nolonger is confident that his mortal life will be long enough to wait out a new Provost's reign.
Perhaps he will maneuver this stupid Provost into doing some of the things Malzhaalohn would have done?
First, would be to root out those Magistrates on the Empire's payroll...Malzhaalohn has his own plans for the Empire, and others in the Spire making their own dealings will just not do.
Second, It is assinine to not only require Magistrates to do the Leader's job of deciding who is worthy of a position in the Spire....but to let Magistrates interview applicants without any teaching or certification? Madness!
Malzhaalohn knows first hand, from his own recommendations, that few regular magistrates have a clue in the nine hells on how to conduct a proper questioning to find the worth of an applicant.
This "two recommendation" thing has to cease. It is a sign of a lazy leader, and a weak leader who relies on weak underlings for his opinions.
He will have to feel out how suggestable this new Provost is.
At least Malzhaalohn has an outlet for his burning dissapointment in this Provost. His studies progress apace, and he has begun to hunt in earnest when he can. A task he finds quite enjoyable.

RoleChapter 5 Further dealings with the Empire, Emperor and Dreadlord. Added Wed Nov 10 00:27:42 2004 at level 45:After much work to gain the "trust" of many in the Empire, the Emperor and the Dreadlord came to Malzhaalohn in supplication (at least in Malzhaalohn's;role + eyes).
It seems that the Dreadlord is himself seeking the Elixir that Malzhaalohn has spent time researching the history of, and asked for the benefit of his knowledge on the subject.
First, In order to not arouse any suspision, Malzh demanded aid in return. Aid in achieving his last two circles of growth in his own guild...as if Malz did not have enough agents outside of the Empire to do so without their aid....*snort*
Then, he indeed shared much of what he knew of the History of those who saught the Elixir. But nothing that the Dreadlord could not easily have found out himself.
It seems the Dreadlord was having trouble finding beings with both the knowledge to brew the Elixir, and the willingness to share such knowledge.
So Malzh shared with him the names of beings who most likely had that knowledge. The being in Arboria, the Being in the Pyramid, the Genius of the art of Potions Kteng, and also alluded that the Master Necromancer in the Tower of Magic knew of a being.
And here is where his misinformation began.....with truths.
He shared that indeed, those with the knowledge of the Elixir must be willing to share such knowledge with you, which is truth....but he also shared that those who have succeeded in the past, have convinced those with the knowledge to share that knowledge....by offering something that the being wanted.
And this, Malzh believes...with lead the Dreadlord astray. For what single gift can a mortal offer to a being of such power? Would not the idea of "purchasing" something as wonderous as the Elixir from one of these beings anger that being?
Malzhaalohn deeply hopes so. Of course, he knows that his desire to see the Dreadlord anger one of these beings and be destroyed for it...might be a bit much to expect, but any little bit of obstacle in the Dreadlord's path is worth the effort, as long as the Dreadlord thinks Malzhaalohn is nice, friendly, simple, and working for him.
Malzhaalohn also asked for Teranoth's age, and upon hearing of his relative youth...Malzhaalohn attempted to urge him to haste, trying to convince him that he must not wait too much longer...hoping that Teranoth would not have had the time yet in his life to master the required studies of their Art to be successful in the pinnacle of the Art.

RoleChapter 2 Gleeful corruption of a Paladin. Added Wed Nov 24 23:43:32 2004 at level 47:Malzh has come to loathe Zachaury. First, it was distate, then when he was made Provost over him, it moved to hatred. Then when he was removed for gross incompetance, and left the Spire like a spoiled child, Malzh was glad to add a measure of Gleeful loathing.
So why did he allow him back into his Spire?
At first, the plan was to have Zachaury spy on the Fortress for him. If he agreed to that, he was useful.
So he told Zachaury that he would not ask him to do anything that would get him cast from the light, for what good does a fallen paladin do for the Spire....
But now Malzhaalohn is not so sure. Zachaury may have his uses in a fight, but dealing with him may be beyond what Malzhaalohn can bear.
Unless Zach begins to become an effective spy (something that Malzh somewhat doubts), Malzh will begin to think of ways to maneuver him into doing something that will get him cast from the Light
That is, of course, if agreeing to spy for a necromancer on the Fortress isn't enough for that already, once a Lord of the Light finds out.

#4288, "Malzhaalohn's Role Chapter 1"
|
RoleChapter 1 Stopping the stupid war. Added Sun Jan 16 08:08:59 2005 at level 47:Salsipuedes let his own pride outweigh the good of the Spire. And even more importantly, got in the way of Malzhaalohn's life, by starting a stupid war with the Village. Shortly there-after, he is removed from the Spire and takes his own life, proving that he was slipping.
Many times after Salsipuedes' death, Malzhaalohn has to deal with roving bands of bloodthirsty morons breaking into the spire and taking the Scales. Why? Because a dead man was a moron. So Malzhaalohn set out to put a stop to it.
So Malzh did what he does. He sweet talked the Village leader. After a time, Malzh talked the Village leader's demands down from insane things such as "the Spire removing all magi" to a simple scroll sent to the populace that explained why the Spire is above most political maneuverings.
Malzh got Androkin to send out the scroll, from "an anonymous member of the Spire".So, the leader of the Village stopped all of the raids.
What Malzh did not expect, was how much this utterly pissed off the Justiciar Destripador, and this was added sweetness to the deal.
For Destripador was not mad that the war ended. He was mad that he himself did not get around to ending it first. He immediately declared the end of the war "invalid" and asked for the one responsible for the scroll to step forward. Well, Of course Malzh did not. If Destripador really wanted to know who it was, he would have been smart enough ot "order" instead of "ask". But he was not. Smart enough that is.
Destripador then sent scrolls that said that he was "assuming" the duties and rights of the Provost in the absence of the Provost, and declared that *HE* ended the war.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
In these scrolls, he revealed his true designs. He wished the place of the Provost. He was not mad that the War ended, he was mad that He could not use the ending of the war to improve his position within the Spire. And he made a blatant grab for the Provost's power, ignoring the rules within the Spire that it is only the Lords of the Spire that give the power of the Provost to someone.
Oh, and it gets better. The Vindicator dislikes Destripador's grab for power, and they send scrolls to each other ...and the whole Spire...outlining how they, and not the other, deserve the duties of the Provost.
This is better than Malzhaalohn could have wished. Not only did he stop the Scales from being taken, but he revealed Destripador for the grasping fool that he was, and got to watch the show of Destripador and Klendalstak argue like morons in public. Entertainment that will last Malzhaalohn a long, long time.
