|
Dragrahl Ta'ag the Hand of the Unseen, Bandit King of Hamsah Mu'tazz
DescriptionDark and hulking, the massive visage of a duergar stands before you. Standing a shade under five feet tall, his tremendous bulk is enhanced by his battle-hardened muscles that threaten to tear through his armor, which is nearly concealed by large tattered cloak from the hide of a tundra yeti. His boulder-like head is topped with fiery orange hair, that has been braided into a number of long, thick braids, and tied off with cords of frayed rope. His chiseled jawline sports a matching rough beard, also braided and tied. His skin, a jet-black ebony, is tightly stretched over his powerful, thickly corded body, and is scarred in several places with the remnants of jagged, battle wounds. A broad, menacing grin expose yellowed and blackened teeth, and allows a fetid, rotten breath to escape into the air. Glaringly noticible on the left arm of this duergar is a patch of pus-oozing scar tissue, in the shape of a six-pointed star.

RoleChapter 7 Emotional whirlwind Added Wed Dec 19 19:17:21 2007 at level 7:Dragrahl Ta'ag was born of humble means, in a roughshod neighborhood deep within the dark, vile twists and turns of the Underdark. With poverty all around him, there was little ambition, desire, or lust for power - just the weary acceptance of the harsh reality of subsistence living.
In slow-paced, but hard working town, he spent his youth as an apprentice blacksmith, working large sheets of heavy metals under the tutilage of his father, and the watchful gaze of his tyranical, overprotective mother. Due to her overbearing nature, there were no schools for Dragrahl to learn within, no friends for him to interact with, and no sights to pique his creative interests. Nearly the entirety of his childhood years, he spent within the close confines of his home, and attached forge. His education was limited to the tasks his father put before him, and his ambition ran as far as his desire to complete those tasks before nightfall - otherwise his meager dinner would be cold, or already eaten by his parents as punishment for his tardiness.
While others his age would venture out from within the depths of the Underdark, to visit lands abroad in search of excitement, fame and fortune, Dragrahl was confined to the smithy, pounding away on his large forge, crafting practical, sturdy armorment for the dark-elven patrollers of Underdark's tunnels. Time seemed to stand still while the young duergar beat the rugged metal, molding piece after piece of the same, identical pieces of armor and weaponry for the drow high house. His creativity was equally as stifled at home, however, as any time he deviated, even slightly, from his father's strict plans (by creating a seam differently, or by modifying his technique to mold the metals, etc.) he would be relentlessly mocked and lectured at for his "stupidity", even if his innoventions were improvements over the current process.
*-*-*-**-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Behaviors due to "Emotional whirlwind"
Dragrahl' sheltered, guilt-imposed household causes him to become self inhibited, since he has become fearful of the repercussions of his "stupid" behavior, and subsequently, angry at himself for being unable to please his parents as well as his for his self-perceived stupidity. This destructive cycle causes him to become further depressed and alienated from both himself and others - in other words, emotionally paralyzed.
Because of his work constant hard work, Dragrahl is severely under-educated, and suffers from a lack of self-esteem. He is easily aggravated, and believes that most everybody is mocking him behind his back. However, instead of attempting to educate himself, he uses his lack of education as a crutch and an excuse for his short temper, and spews curses and blame upon all whom he feels slighted by. He feels no remorse for this behavior , but does realize that by doing such he creates enemies. To compensate, he frequently falls into periods of silence in order to keep from being set off. Also, due to his isolation and lack of education Dragrahl's speech is far more stunted than most duergar, and his fear of being "stupid" causes him to often keep his thoughts to himself. His long years of toiling at the forge, however, have left him more physically develo

RoleChapter 6 Up from the rubble, Dragrahl rises. Added Wed Dec 19 19:18:29 2007 at level 7:The air was so still around his outdoor forge that Dragrahl thought there was a good chance it was going to rain - an unusual occurence, certainly, but not so uncommon as to be scary. Working furiously, pounding at a sheet of darkened-iron plate, he felt no uneasiness for his safety, and even welcomed the coolness that a passing rain would bring to the stifling heat of the afternoon.
It suddenly began to grow dark and ominous, clouds of smoke filled the underground caverns, and blocked out the light of his fires. Cursing, Dragrahl throws down his forge hammer, knowing that he would not be able to finish his work before the rain comes, and begins to tidy his station for the incoming storm. Calling quick warning to his parents, he strides inside his home, and begins the process of closing the window and door. He huddles near his parents, far from the sole window to the outside.
Suddenly, without warning, a blindingly bright light fills the caverns, and the low-hanging clouds open up, the rain beating hard upon the low, frond-shingled roof of their earthen home with a force and clatter that threatened to break through the oft-patched roof and deluge the small home with water. Through the shuttered windows Dragrahl watches as long, fierce-looking bolts of lightning struck the many stalagmites growing up from the cavern floor, mesmorized in a trance-like state as the blasts destroy in seconds, what took the world an eternity to create.
Dragrahl walks to the window and places his eyes against the slats of its shutters and looks up into the clouds, towards the heavens, while uttering a prayer of few words under his breath.
At that same moment, a fiery bright flash of lightning strikes the roof of his home, scant inches above the seat he just rose from. Dragrahl watches in awe and disbelief as the roof tumbles down upon his parents head, killing them instantaneously.
Frightened and utterly confused, Dragrahl crawls over the fallen bodies of his parents, and steps foot out into the storm. Suddenly, a jagged lightning bolt streaks down from the sky, entering his body at his upturned nose, causing him to twitch, shiver, and fall to the ground limp.
*-*-*-**-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Behaviors due to "Up from the rubble, Dragrahl rises"
Though the freak storm that descended upon the Underdark was most likely just an anomoly of nature, Dragrahl believes that the storm was a magical plague called upon his duergar clan by the drow Matron Mother as punishment for their lack of complete subservience to the drow house. He doesn't understand why the punishment would have been bestowed, as he worked the forge day after day, churning out weaponry and armor for the Drow armies and patrollers.
By escaping the Underdark, and the control of the drow, Dragrahl feels as if he had suffered from a childhood disease, and has been cleansed by the power of the lightning. As such, he feels that it is his duty to cleanse other who suffer from the disease of magic, both those who cast it on a regular basis (as he sees magi as his prison keeper), but also those who rely on magicians and magic too often.
He uses his skills as a thief to sneak glimpses into the possessions of those he passes, an

RoleChapter 5 An unlikely drifter Added Wed Dec 19 19:19:10 2007 at level 7:Dragrahl, in his slow, meticulous fashion, neatly picked his house clean of the few valuables that he felt might have some resale value in the markets, and began his ascent out of the caverns of the Underdark.
After spending his entire life in relative isolation within the poor, barren town of his youth, he boarded a rickety lift with the few belongings he carried from his home, and awaited his next challenge - fulfilling his destiny. He knew he was destined for greater things than being *just* a forgesmith.
Dragrahl, a young man with little contact with the outside world other than the few peddlers who scheduled visits to his town's miniscule marketplace was utterly overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of Upper Cragstone where his lift left him hours later. After wandering around in awe for a few hours, and being fleeced by an experienced trader in negotiations for his few treasures, he heads east, to Hamsah, where he finds work on a small ferry boat, working the route between Arkham and Hamsah - slowly building a purse of coin. During his off hours, he would travel the lands with small groups of other travelers, killing beasts and mortals alike, in search of treasure and fortune - but even among those groups he was slow to make friends. His lack of social skills ultimately caused him to leave his work on the ship, as he was constantly being blamed by his coworkers for whatever problems occured on the ship.
Without the structured life he had at home and on the ferry, Dragrahl wandered from acquaintance to acquaintance, from meal to meal, and from bed to bed - a drifter, who slowly began to lose sight of his goals.
*-*-*-**-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Behaviors due to "An unlikely drifter"
He, more than most duergar, hates the dwarven race but also envies them. He greatly desires the respect that the dwarven smithys have had bestowed upon them, and believes that his work is of equal (and egotistically) or better quality. He also hates the drow, for it was their need for weaponry and armor that forced him behind the forges in the first place. Dragrahl believes he could have become an expert swordsman given the opportunity to practice amongst other duergar youth, instead of toiling over the back-breaking forge each day.

|
RoleChapter 4 A cunning decision Added Wed Jan 16 19:57:24 2008 at level 31:Finding it difficult to find reliable work, Dragrahl turned to thievery to support his weakness for extravagantly fine food and drink that he wandered across in his exhaustive travels of Thera - from pubs serving delicious steak and potatoes to royal banquettes serving vintage elvish wines. In the company of others, he will only eat meals of the utmost quality and taste and fancies himself a connoisseir of luxury fare, but in private he often gorges himself on the comfort foods of his youth - cheap grub and dock-fare.
His comfort around the docks also partially fueled his desire to join the Hamsah Thieves guild, but equally as important was it's proximity to the homes of the village enemies of the Scion and the Empire, as well as its ties to the Nexun's Rhyme, Iltch, who also serves as the Hamsah Bandit King.
Dragrahl intends to use this central location to keep close tabs on his enemies to the north and south, and grow his influences with Iltch, in an attempt to gather information on his enemies to the west. Dragrahl tries his best to keep quiet around the Bandit King, knowing that by speaking too much and spouting his distaste for the man, he jeopardizes his more important goals.
However, Dragrahl does indulge in some good natured gloating to Iltch when he defeats one of the Nexun seekers. Dragrahl walks the tightrope of being blackballed like only a duergar can - clumsily and with poor taste.

|
RoleChapter 3 To be blackballed. Added Sat Jan 26 17:33:02 2008 at level 37:Dragrahl has used his cunning and creativity to collect enough gold coin to stand second only to Iltch within the Hamsah guild. He can feel Iltch's fury in every word spoken by the Nexun's leader, and Dragrahl knows that any misstep, either real or perceived will ultimately lead to his blackballing from the guild.
Dragrahl has also heard word from a trusted source and close confidant, Lauriel, that Iltch has plans to blackball him even if nothing can be held against him, as Iltch fears what Dragrahl will be able to do once they can meet in battle. Dragrahl is not surprised by this, but is furious that the time and effort he has spent to bolster the guild may soon go to waste.
He sits down, and thinks to himself of ways to use this knowledge to his advantage.
One - he can try and recruit some young thief to the guild, give them the coin necessary to become elite, and rig a challenge for the title of Bandit King in his favor.
Two - he can join another guild, and rally to become it's leader, and pit the two guilds against one another.
Three - he can stand pat, and see what Iltch does.
He must decide... soon.

#20412, "Dragrahl's Role Chapter 2"
|
RoleChapter 2 + Ambitions refocused Added Tue Feb 26 17:26:01 2008 at level 49:When Dragrahl next opened his eyes the morning after the Battle Rager Rites, it took him awhile to realise that he had done so, for no sight greeted him, only the aches and pains of battle, and a gnawing cold from his fireless hut. He was ensconced in pitch-black darkness, unable to see his own hand as he held it out in front of him. Blinking, he tried to make his eyes adjust to the blackness, but the inky darkness would not abate. Dragrahl stubbornly pushed back the memories of his failures in the circle, pushed back the aches and pains of both physical and mental defeat, and focused on pushing back the fear that threatened to rise up and paralyse him. Though usually accustomed to skulking in the darkness, the thought of being forever cloaked in it, unable to be an integral part of the villages victories (and even their occasional defeats) brought a cold sweat to his rough skin.
As he continued to concentrate vanquishing his fears of the darkness, his conscious began to tug at another fear, one even greater than his blindness, the fear of uselessness.
Thinking hard now, weighing his lofty goals against his minor accomplishments, Dragrahl realized that perhaps he would best serve the village in his chosen capacity, a scout, and not as a warrior in thief's clothing, as he had be apt to portray. As he did this, he was slowly able to focus on the meager sunlight slowly penetrating the darkness of his hut, and began to see clearly once more.
Since the end of Iltch's reigh as Bandit King, Dragrahl became less inclined to visit his Hamsah Guildhall, less inclined to involve himself in the politics that surrounded it, and therefore, less involved in the reasons he chose the guildhall in the first place - to spy on the Nexuns, Empire, and Scion. Though he no longer has access to the Nexun's commander, he still maintained a front row seat to two major enemies of his Battle Ragers, and he had been neglecting to use it.
Dragrahl decided, then, to focus his energies on becoming the Bandit King of the Hamsah thief guildhall and building a network of spies who would be eager to keep track of the comings and goings of his foe.
He brought this idea forward to the new Drillmaster of the Village, and he was quite receptive to the idea, donating two hundred gold coin to the Dragrahl's coffers, for use in building influence in the guild... and with that, Dragrahl's new mission began.

RoleChapter 1 + Ambitions Realized Added Wed Mar 12 16:54:57 2008 at level 51:Dragrahl was unsurprised and unconcerned when two of Hamsah's elite thieves threw their name into the race to become Bandit King. He knew his donations were superior to theirs. He knew his desire for the position was unmatched, as they only decided to pursue the position after he made his feelings know. He felt himself to be far superior in skill, but more importantly, he felt that his "presence" was greater than either of the other thieves.
He was prepared for the war of words that were to be volleyed. He was prepared to defend his character and promote his views on the mighty Hamsah guild. Dragrahl was finally filling the large shoes that he set in front of himself. He was becoming a leader, one who backed his words with actions, one who was... prepared.
Dragrahl was not shocked, and entirely prepared when Angaarn attempted to assault him near the Ruins outside the village. Cooly and calmly, he knocked out, bound, tied and trussed the arial while a young paladin fumbled to untie the knots. He paid the paladin no mind, as he was ready for a battle no matter what ensued. A quick, one-sided battle occured, and Dragrahl stood over his fallen foe, victorious.
The only thing Dragrahl was unready for was his immediate crowning upon completion of his victory, but he was prepared for what was sure to follow - smoothing over relations with the fallen guild member and to begin restoring some semblance of control over his guild.
