#1456, "[SCION] Kungkruk the Taskmaster of the Eternal Night, Impudent Terror of Thera"
|
Kungkruk the Taskmaster of the Eternal Night, Impudent Terror of Thera
DescriptionAlthough the giant before you is somewhat small for his breed, this nine foot specimen is still mammoth by human standards. Obsidian and ebony skin glistens, stretched tightly over compactly corded muscle. Tangles of matted orange-red hair fall about the massive shoulders, which in turn tapir down the bicep before once again bulging around the great forearms. A prognathus jaw juts defiantly out in what can only be described as a gesture of stupid obstinance. Above, the thick forehead slopes down to a great bellow-nose, ringed by deeply-sunken rotator sockets. Within, baleful lavender eyes scan the area with an intelligence that is rare in this breed of warrior giants. An almost frenetic energy surrounds this giant, as though he is simply waiting for an opportunity to lash out in a wanton act of destruction. The eyes tell a different story... Looking closer you see:

RoleChapter 0 On Cowardice, the Maw, and the Chasm. Added Thu Jun 10 20:27:10 2004 at level 51:"They said that one of Tanadin's favorite sayings was 'A fat rogue is a dead rogue. Can the same be said for giants? I would think so. Although my Power waxes, it is not yet at its zenith. Best to be wary of all...friends and foes alike.'
The frenetic wariness and fiery passions of Kungkruk's youth have cooled, leaving a seasoned, more world-wise giant in their stead. Kungkruk still retains his facade of stupidity, but has begin to realize more how reputation, and more importantly, intentions (geniune or not) can be used to one's advantage. He has been marked with the Maw, quite to his surprise, on the same day he was annoited Taskmaster of the Chasm. The honorific came with no real power, but the crafty giant quickly used the fame (or infamy) such a title brought him to his advantage in battle and in his dealings with others. The Chasm remains weak and aimless, in his opinion, which is both good and bad. Good because he shines more easily. Bad because of the close ties and energy he has invested. He resolves to yet again petition the Dark lords to grant him some vestige of real power, however temporary, so that he may shape the Fold in the manner he knows to be fit.
Kungkruk prides himself on almost artful combat, fighting solely to win in any way possible rather than for honor or glory. The Maw has aided his understanding of reading others, and well placed taunts, demoralizing attacks, and strategic withdrawals prove far more effective than full frontal attacks could ever be. Lyristeon has also promised him additional power should he find a way to debilitize the Spire's ability to function. And he has more than a few ideas to speed this power acquisition. Now, on the verge of his descent into the Pit, he stands alone against a tide of Maran and lighthuggers. He hides, but he waits and bides his time.
Cowardice and cunning seem to be more closely related than he once thought.

RoleChapter 1 Motivations and Goals Added Wed Apr 14 17:27:07 2004 at level 26:Time has passed since Kungkruk fled the mount. With experience has come knowledge to a degree, but Kung still feels lacking. He has yet to discover any worthy confidants to reveal his 'true' self. In a way, he feels that he is safe as his subterfuge has worked, but he has yet to gain any real power. In his adventures, he has come into close contact with several of the land's factions, and now begins to make plans for his future. The imperials hold great power and dominion over the land--allying himself with the emperor would undoubtedly bring wealth and glory. However, the Scions are the keepers of dark powers perhaps beyond the comprehension of any imperial. By playing the fool, perhaps Kungkruk could get close and eventually gain access to this power the scions hold. While pondering his next move, word came to Kungkruk of a deity who once did much the same. Querying further, he has begun to take a strong interest in the imp Lyrieston. Deceptive and cunning in tales sung by bards and travellers, the Imp's motives perhaps are compatible with Kungkruk's. As he makes his way into the future, the outcast giant of Rah resolves to gain Lyristeon's attention. For good or ill, only time will tell.

RoleChapter 2 Character Overview Added Fri Apr 9 09:51:22 2004 at level 16:Kungkruk was born a runt in the depths of Kiadana. Of course, he immediately enjoyed all the benefits that being weaker than his brethren could bestow--beatings being perhaps the least of the physical torments. To compound the problem, he quickly realized that he was much smarter than his kin on a high order of magnitude. In secret, he persuaded the few human traders that dared make their way into the volcano to teach him the common tongue. Although he progressed rapidly, his time with a certain teacher was cut short when it they were discovered along together. Being fire giants, the denizens of the mount of course preferred to flay the human first and ask questions later. When the act was finished, their attention turned to Kungkruk, who knew he was caught 'acting superior.' He quickly fled the mountain, learning the value of keeping his intelligence secret from potential foes. Now he puts on a studied act of stupidity, one that he is relieved even the most scholarly are more than willing to believe. Although he despises himself for it, he also cannot deny the brutal urges of his race, and seeks to reconcile his advanced intelligence with his carnal urges. Kungkruk at the same time is a horrible keeper of secrets, another proclivity of his race. He has a burning urge to let *someone* into his trust, but will keep that number only to those chosen few he believes will accept him, and of course the gods themselves, should they turn their attention to such a matter.
