It seems in a log that poison darts confusion affect is a spell, which doesn't really make sense, though maybe there are balance considerations to have it cancelable. The character could've got the confusion before the log, but seems this is worth checking and possibly addressing:
A small dart nicks your skin.
You yell 'Ouch!'
You give a start as the dart hits you.
XXX is covered with bleeding wounds.
...snip some rounds
XXX narrows his eyes and glares in your direction.
The magic of your confuse spell unravels.
