It's the best way to learn and get comfortable with it. You can't completely avoid PK on CF, so getting yourself used to it is always a good idea. Once you come to terms with dying (or killing people) you'll find yourself having even more fun.

Actually, while I tend to not be a big PK'er, I do enjoy cabal raiding and defending and retrieving. It's a really interesting dynamic of the game. Even if you decide not to go for a cabal that has an active raiding theme with this character, try and plan to do it with one down the road.
