Chapter 1

"Awake" - The voice called from the shadows,

Neajess barely opened his eyes, "..ya?"

Neajess looked over at his demonic spellbook. Then toward the moon.

"Freedom. Absolute freedom." - The voice continued.

Random deliberate images flooded Neajess's mind:

- The releasing of the demons from the depths of hell. Only to find
the souls they were promised to feast on found sanctuary in Dis.

- The releasing and trapping of the birds, longing to free but
caught in a cage, to be released only to find they forgot how to live so,
flying in circles over a winterless land.

- The releasing of water trapped by a dam, by creating a route in which
the only access is by flowing up hill.

- The bringing down of a broken system only to find that it held the world
together, and then total antipathy to any and all destruction it brought.

- The return from the dead to find your mother pissing on your grave,
and then loving her again as your own.

"Do you understand?" - The voice proclaimed angrily.

"No, ya." Neajess responded.

The voice whispered, "Chaos."

A sense of understanding came over Neajess.

"Chaos, ya," Neajess repeated.

The images, graphic. The release, profound. The understanding, divine.

More images flooded his mind:

- He sees himself in the middle of Dis. When the demons were free'd and
the souls retreated. They found Nejess waiting for them in Dis. He feasted
on the souls, now trapped; thinking they found their escape.

- He enjoyed watching the birds wander. He knew he had free'd them from their
routine migration, though they did not comprehend it. They thought they were
trapped in the cage, but instead free'd to their demise.

-All the water had to do was muster enough energy to overcome a little hill.
It can carve canyons, it can drown villages, it can freeze and break rock.
But it can't go uphill. So much power when released, so little when controlled.
He wanted to be like the water in the river, not the dam. As all things should
be. Free.

-Spoiled meat and spoiled fountains bring destruction to entire towns. But
those villagers were free'd to hunt, find other sources of water, learned to
live on the land. Free'd by a plague.

-The mother's piss is divine. What the hell would it mean to him if she was
pissing on his grave? He knew it'd make no difference if he was dead. Symbolic?
Who cares. Maybe she thought she thought that can bring him back. In fact, she
did really, truly, believe her piss was divine.

Did he imagine these things, or did these things already exist?

They must already exist, otherwise they couldn't be so.. real.
