Role

Chapter 1

I was born to a house of low standing in the outer rim in the dark depths
of Teth Azeleth. Like all dark-elven houses, this one was controlled by
the female matron mother and her extended family. Politics, subterfuge,
and greed dominated our culture, and this house was no different. I was
the only son to my father, positioned as a lowly house guard. Basically,
he was nothing more than a slave to protect the family and the house from
the many potential enemies. They looked upon him upon as weak, worthless
in their eyes, seen as inferior to their royal bloodline. He had no
potential for advancement, nor was driven to gain such. I was determined
to not follow in my fathers footsteps. I had no interest in city
politics nor did I care what so ever about the houses position and
always planned on leaving the city when the time was right.

With my own beliefs, I was driven to not become weak and spineless like
him. I patiently bided my time, slowly building my skills and practicing
in secret over many years. I watched the weapons master of the house
perform his amazing abilities and trained at every spare moment.
Listening and observing as he trained the young fighters under his
command. In awe of the masters speed and agility, I was determined to
learn to move and fight as well as he. Every one of his moves was
executed with perfect order and control. His mind was sharpened and free
from the chaos happening around him. The focus, order and structured way
of life gave him his strength and amazing abilities.

I eventually came to a state where I was confident enough in my new
abilities that I could avoid the guard and escape this life. Late one
night, with no warning, a raid began on the house by a massive rival
family and they outnumbered us three to one. Within hours, they had
nearly slaughtered everyone. I used this opportunity and managed to
escape this subservient life. I stepped out of the shadow, drew my
blades, and before any could react, I swiftly I slew several guards as I
made my way out of the grounds. Seeing them draw their last breath,
strength enveloped my being and my soul. The intensity and focus had
given me power, and I gutted them like the weak cattle they had now
become. I wanted more, to feel this more. I was no longer weak and had
become powerful. Seeing the house being burned to the ground, the few
survivors, now slaves to the raiders, an evil grin came across my face.
Then I left the city and ventured into the vast endless Underdark. I knew
I would not likely ever return to Teth Azeleth nor did I have any wish
to. I wandered for days into the never ending labyrinth tunnels of the
Underworld, leaving Teth Azeleth far behind me.
