This came up as a recent use of pen, but making it easier to use from an RP standpoint I think would be pretty neat. Could be a Herald skill maybe (or General preferably), but according to an Imm I asked recently, none of this was in place. I'm going to put a couple of suggestions below, but they're all under the same idea of making Pen a cooler skill.
1) Create a pen skill option called "copy".
This would allow you to take a penned scroll/item and copy it in full. Check would be against the pen skill with a dramatic penalty to copy the whole thing in entirety, but the end result is that you get an exact replica of the scroll/item you've already penned.
2) Create a pen skill option called called "publish"
Let's the user restring the long desc and the short desc of the penned scroll. This would allow multiple penned items to actually be discerned in inventory, and also allow more variation of the penned items. Would allow for Greater employ for RP purposes.
3) Make penned scrolls/items disintegrate after 300 game hours (or whatever makes sense).
This is effectively to prevent in game 'Treasure Maps' from proliferating forever in inventory once you open up writing to a broader base.
