Because the fighting in the damage mode of armadillo is simply an 'I lose' card in PK. As Mreeshai, I consistently lost against a thief wielding only practice weapons and not using skills when fighting as armadillo.
Therefore, I suggest that you either
1. allow armadillo to move/initiate combat while retracted so that it doesn't take the higher damage and does its job well in the group fights it is meant for.
Or,
2. you could boost up armadillo's fighting skills a bit in the unretracted mode so that it wouldn't be such a complete loser when fighting solo (unless you already haven't, that is).
