9379, Question for all regarding practice
Posted by Larshalv on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Well, practice is something that takes time, time and more time. This being so, there should be an option that would minimize this. And as the "imms" have attempted to lessen the strain of this through some brilliant things like warriors ability to learn weapons from others. And small prosentages while ranking. Or small.. its pretty big 150% if you take a 3% at each rank...

But a small suggestion is that for 1 practice you could get a 5% addition to skill/spell with the exception of some skills. As assassination and such. Ive not given that to much thought about which skills spells that should be allowed to increase a said number of times.

However there would have to be a limit to this, and it is obviously practices as you dont get to many. And Id also set a limit as to how far you could do this, say 90%.

Well thats my small suggestion. I belive it would go a far way to disperse all them that do not like practicing. Without making a horribly overpowered demon of a char in any class.

I'm going to roll a sphere chaos, chaotic evil fire giant bash-spec who does nothing but go around PK'ing every dumbass I see spamming away their defenses.

Double points for non-warriors doing this and triple points for any class with the sanctuary prayer doing this.

I don't know. I swung a 1 pk per 2 hour ratio on my last char for almost 200 hours and I didn't spam a single thing. Perfected dodge and parry didn't save my enemies mostly because if you stay in the fight to the point where two hits would've killed you that having perfected parry saved you from then you can thank the RNG more than perfected parry.

Added : Honestly, I don't know whether to laugh or be depressed when I hear "Damn, X should've worked, I perfected it!"
9380, This could create a big racial imbalance

Take an arial vs. fire giant. Any method of skill gains should allow the arial to improve at dodge much faster than the fire giant. To the extent that the fire giant saves enough practices, your method makes them improve at equal rates.

One of the factors that limits statistically strong but dumb characters - duergar, fire giants is their slow rate of learning. Removing that hurdle lessens the advantage of playing other races.

Depends what you should be able to put practices in.

As I saw larshalv mention was that you should not get this on all skills like assassinate and so on... and if you remove dodge, shield block and parry from the list, there would not be to much imbalance. Low ranked giants and duergars are pretty damn nasty even if you have perfect skill sets.

I think what the man is pointing towards is esp spell spamming. Mages in general would sit and choose between using practices because they are lazy or save them put in the extra work and get some extra hps at hero.

I think in general this might be a good idea, but it needs to be fleshed out until its an idea that can be swallowed by CF in general and does not give room for unfair advantages.

For an elf warrior it would just be unfair to be able to put practice into defence, but at the same time it might give them survivability against those iron wielding fire giants bashing them to death yawning in the process. Might be room for discussion about what and where.

I know I would sacrefice my hps for an easier practice any time hehe. I just hate spam practice.

As you mention a duergar might gain an advantage a short while, but in the end this would be balanced quite out. Lets say its a lever restriction on this. Say 5 ranks from when you gain the skill/spell.

As well, as I forgot to mention the said progression of +5% pr practice would be above 75%... up to a max of 90%. This would also help keeping the duergars as you say under the top. However most dumb races do not get many practices, and the saccrafice of hp is quite great if you give alot of practices for skill %. I was merly trying to outline a suggestion I think have merrit to the a number of players that complain on to much practice. This way it would be saccraficing alot, for a small gain. But there would have to be a restriction on the skills/spells allowed to use this on for each class. And set a restriction for rank. Say rank 30 or so.

At rank 30 you would be allowed to increase skills/spells/communes by 5% pr practice up to 90%, with the exception of certain skills/spells/communes.

By my experience most classes have alot of their skills/spells/communes learnt quite much by that rank at any rate. But it would allow some classes to progress a bit swifter. Any thoughts would be appriciated.
