8408, Mercy of the Typhoon.
Posted by Dallevian on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
This post is inspired by the month-old posts regarding legacies, Nepenthesque answers, and my curiousity.

Does mercy of the typhoon work when an opponent flees, or only when an opponent dies? Do they have to be grouped, or just cabal'd? Or is it anyone (pc) that currently fights you? Thanks, indeed.

Add a chance to prevent the targetted person from being rescued. It makes sense in terms of the helpfile for Mercy of the Typhoon. Alternatively, you could add an additional strike against either the victim or the rescuer when rescuing.

If you do the rescue prevention bit, though, keep in mind that a necromancer can have many pets rescue him simultaneously, so the rescue prevention would either have to be very high to be effective or it would have to prevent all rescue attempts for a round when it's successful. (Or it could just be not as valuable versus necromancers.)

Those are just a couple of ideas I had on the subject. And to everyone else who may be wondering if I'm back - the answer for now is no. I was just curious and read up on what was new on the boards.

That's not what I had in mind to do, but it's interesting. I may factor that in somehow. (If I ever get around to retooling this thing.)

With someone else's point about a better parting blow, how about a lagging parting blow? It'd make sense to allow a whirling strike when someone "leaves the Typhoon" - and it'd make it a worthy legacy choice.

Also, not to sound like a nag, but will you inform us when Mercy is updated like the others? I bet there are people willing to make characters and try it out (including myself) if we knew it was going to be fixed soon or is fixed.

how about a lagging parting blow?

Let's think about this in conjunction with two particular powers; bloodthirst and eyes of flame.

Opponent walks into you (let's assume it's a dark, evil mage...like an anti-paladin or, better yet, a necromancer), you auto-attack him, beating him to pulp in about a round. He flees, and because of this nifty legacy he gets lagged long enough for you to re-engage. Rinse and repeat. That would be death on wheels, and no fun. Sure, someone can word out, avoiding the nasty, lagging parting blow, but there are a lot of people who can't, and there are lots of situations to render people who normally might be able to, incapable.

Having a parting blow already is a scary thing. Making it as a lagging skill comes to overpowered.

I vote 'no' to the lag.

A second, weakened, parting blow would be nifty though.
8438, Yes, especially scary since deathblow tends to come int he bloodthirst package. nt

It sucks beyond belief, don't bother taking it.

This is one of the legacy that needs lots of love. I would like to see the legacy where it is useful against side attacks. Mercy of the typhoon sounds like the only safe place is in the center, ie. the warrior. Everything around should be a blur.

1. So my suggestion is side first attacks like circle, knife, mule-kick, or pincer have a chance to miss the warrior. This only kicks in when the warrior is already fighting another opponent.

Eg.
Warrior fights OpponentA. OpponentB (thief) who is not involved in the fight tries to knife, but legacy kicks in with a chanced riposte. Thief misses due to legacy and gets drawn in the fight. This legcay is useful against thieves who flee-knife. Another OpponentC (warrior) comes in and tries to pincer, legacy successfully kicks in. Pincer misses but riposte failed. OpponentC gets drawn into the fight.

AND/OR (depending on the game balance)

2. This legacy gives an additional parting blow. OpponentA flees, gets warrior parting blow plus legacy parting blow (trying to get out from a typhoon is no easy matter). Next target is OpponentB (thief), with which legacy kicks in with a new damagable attack on the thief. Thief flees. Parting blow misses but legacy kicks in successfully. Thief gets hit and dies. Automatically the legacy kicks in and hits at OpponentC (warrior) with a new damagable attack.

Hope the Imms get the picture.

This is pretty much the sole legacy on my list right now. I haven't had much coding time lately.
8419, Does this mean

You have recently tweaked other legacies you felt were in need of change, or that after reviewing all the legacies this is the only one you decided needs change?

8437, I believe it means that it is the only legacy that is currently viewed as imbalanced.

Some legacy tweaks have happened lately, for example the warcry one.
