8009, I promised myself I wouldn't roll another bard, BUT...

I did. I swear I won't be long on it. But just from first analysis, it SEEMS like the repertoire change timer may be incredibly too long. Maybe its rank based? Will it lessen at higher ranks? Anyway. Thirty minutes of real time timer on the repertoire change seems far too long. I understand its supposed to be mentally exhausting for the bard, costly. But I thought it was also supposed to be tactical too, and from what I've seen, its far too long to be usable tactically. I haven't ranked up far enough to give actual hours, and to see if it's rank-based but from what I've seen... anyway, I'm repeating myself and babbling now. Is this by design?

While switching repertoires can be used tactically, it is not intended to be something you can just do "on the fly" all the time. It's intended to be more of a premeditated thing. You see how your group is constructed and the situation you are entering for the next half-hour or so, and perhaps change your repertoire in preparation. Kind of think of it in terms of how druids collect herbs to suit their situation, but without all the running around.

All things being equal, the intention is that bards are encouraged to remain in their "preferred" repertoire most of the time, both roleplaying-wise and power-wise - while still allowing some flexibility and advantage for bards to sometimes switch repertoires to suit certain situations or roleplaying motives.

While there are advantages and disadvantages to each choice for which you can and should switch repertoires, don't forget the roleplaying implications as well. If you design your character as a drunken, swearing, barbaric battle-bard with poor hygiene, you may potentially be mocked if you perpetually choose to sing in romantic verse because of some OOC notion of a tactical advantage.

An existing equivalent is the ap "control unholy weapon". The timer on switching from fire control to cold control is a long one. That's basically to stop you being able to switch around as needed.

I know it's meant to be long.
