7713, Kick = one round lag

What do you think about it?
This would make it a bit more tempting to practice and really doesn't swing into the overpowered spectrum at all, afaik.

I've been talking with another IMP about whipping up an ability that is like Kick, but one round. It would sacrifice accuracy and damage, however. The main ideas were:
- Allow players to take advantage of one-round "windows of opportunity". It wouldn't be nearly as good as Jab or related abilities for that, but it wouldn't require a weapon either. - Allow newer players to spend a practice or two to get an extra ranking skill. It would help them in the short run, although at high levels it would ultimately not be so great, much like Kick.
There's no way I'd just move Kick to one round though. Healers are the easy example, but the damage output on one-round-Kick would be sizable and would go to too many classes.
Edit: Unless you were talking about lagging the victim of Kick one round. I wouldn't do that either. No sense giving everyone a reliable-ish skill only useful for ganging. (When would you use a 2/1 lag skill that did medium damage and nothing else in solo combat?)

Yes, I meant the person performing the kick should be lagged for 1 round, not two like right now.
Yes, I'd never dream of asking the victim to be lagged by a kick for 1 round. That's too powerful, I agree.
To address some poster's issue below: yes, the boots-in-question would be nasty, but they're rare anyhow. And with every non-felar assassin, non-felar thief, orc, sword-spec and healer after them, they're rarer still.
And finally -- I would take you up on this offer of a kick-like ability that almost any class can get (throw out kick, if need be) that would let you do something while ranking.
I agree with some other poster that no warrior ever would want to practice kick (and mostly no one else, too). It's just that kick, in its present state, is really bypassed by almost everyone and downing it to 1 round would make a few people think about using it. I know I would, as long as I don't roll a warrior.

Think we could ever change the "you don't know how to kick people" echo to something else if someone gets bored someday? You've no idea the number of times I try to kick someone as an assassin, and want to smack the CF code for telling me to leave it to martial artists. I *AM* one!!!!
Alright, I'm going away now.

Is bite a 2/1 lag skill?

Well you could make the boots (when used by non-assassins) also lag you one round, so you end up being lagged 2 rounds only when wearing boots. Would be reasonably consistant given that it takes a little extra finesse to make sure you drive the spike in rather than kicking with some other part of the foot.

With a certain set of boots that can be one hell of a damage output... Or do you meen the opponent is lagged 1 round?
If opponent is lagged one round, I kinda dissagree since it would not be like RL in several aspects. I do martial arts, and many time I accept a good kick just to deploy several other techniques and as a trained martial artist it just does not lag me at all. Though side kick, or a thorough head kick does for obvious reasons :D

7715, For most classes...

Kick is not worth practicing. Maybe for shamans, healers and thieves but for all warrior-types I can think of moves that do the same damage and have more utility to them as well.
I think his gripe is that with these classes (warriors, aps, bards etc) that kick is a bit redundant and it should be made more useful. I'm not sure I agree, but hey... who knows.

7722, kick is not redundant for aps

personally I find it very useful with aps, particularly at lower levels where mana is tight. Even at higher levels kick sometimes takes the place of mana consuming alternatives, particularly if you have spiked toed boots.
