73866, Mutlicharring timeout
Posted by clnt2020 on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Helpfile says:

"A more subtle form of multi-charring is switching between your characters with little to no time in between. This is often viewed as scouting the who list in an attempt to see potential pk victims or allies upon login. In order to prevent this it is suggested that you spend between 5 and 10 minutes offline before switching to the other character."

I think it's too short cooldown. I have sometimes limited time to play (have no idea when I'll have to logout), so I'm running around with a lowbie. But I think at least 30 minutes should be the minimal limit, or even 1 hour.

Maybe it's time to update those requirements and make them more strict?

Why implement a policy that addresses, from what I gather, the abuse of a single individual?

Just deal with the individual.

All you're doing is guaranteeing that someone who wants to play CF won't be able to. That just means one fewer person on the who list.

If we're going to intentionally decrease the amount of people logged in to CF, I'd want a legitimate reason beyond "I think it's too short".

Well, I personally could abuse 5-10 minutes. And I do take timeouts at least 30 minutes, trying to maximize them to 1-2 hours. It would improve quality of the characters and decrease amounts of mass logins that everyone hate, I assume. I don't see why it would decrease 'who' - if you are playing, and have a time to keep playing, play the character you are logged in.

I'm not saying it's must be implemented, but it's just a thing to think about.

..but I don't think what you're describing is a real issue. I'm fairly certain this is specifically tracked by IMMs as far as who is playing alts, and how long they're playing before they quit. Like...they already have tools in place to prevent what you're describing and punish when it happens.

Thats why I said if you have a specific example of someone that is abusing this you email IMPs.

But by the rules, it's 5-10 minutes between logins. So if someone would daily switch with only 10 minutes, he won't break any rules, it's officially allowed. This is what I think could be fixed.

Yeah, Ishuli on it like white on rice. Ie she knows your alts, and she's judging you for it.

...best thing to do is email imps@carrionfields.com.

Otherwise the game has plenty of rules that are strictly enforced and doesn’t need to be made more restrictive.
