73138, If you could pick one
Posted by JohnEveryMan on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Forgoing coder time/resource limitations, if you could pick one new race already existing in CF to make playable what would it be? And what kind of stats/abilities/hook would make it interesting enough you'd want to play it? Seasonal or year round?
Personally I'd love to see either a generic saurian race or more specific to the context of CF K'sra/Sz'weh. They already have a fleshed out background and area (Obviously Ysigrath wouldn't be a great hometown but a small self contained area just before or near it would resolve that.)
I'm thinking they'd be Good and Evil, neutral/chaotic only. Decent str/dex high con low int decent wisdom. Vuln Ice, resistant poison/disease. Classes would be Ranger, Warrior, Shaman. and innate swimming like Storms
If there's some glaring fault with this feel free to let me know, and of course I want to hear what your pick would be.
Halflings are not an acceptable answer sorry.

73156, i though Saurian was near ready for release

Orc witch doctors sound hilarious and fun too. Maybe someday :)

73153, Trolls, def trolls
Posted by Destuvius on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
The way trolls are in CF makes me think they would be a high str high int but lower wis dex and con. Sure the higher int might be a stretch but i've always thought that a high str high int combo race would be interesting. Probably something like 23 22 17 18 18
Inherent regen (almost like perma lifesurge or perma regen as if slowed or something), vuln fire vuln acid, resist poison/disease size large without phys resist but I think some sort of perma thick-veined bleed redux would be neat on them because of the enhanced regen.
Warrior Anti-Paladin Necro Ranger with forest marsh or plains, only savage or survivalist

Would be fun to have a class with regen. With shifters, the types are:
Minor regeneration Regeneration Major Regeneration Greater Regeneration
Trolls could have the first maybe second given their vulns?

73141, I once rolled an elf who thought he was a lizard person
Posted by Mcbeth on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I can't remember his name, he was raised in Ysigrath by the K'sra and spoke with a lot of ssssses. He had a prosthetic tail and a lizard skin cloak and otherwise ran around completely naked. Obviously a champion paladin because one day he met the paladin with the halberd in the swamps, and decided to become a hero.
I was pretty baked and it seemed like a great idea, then I woke up the next day and deleted him. :P

73151, I played something quite similar
Posted by incognito on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
A wood elf who thought he was a snake. He was basically a murder druid but only to those who walked (because they step on snakes) or were bird related arials (because birds tend to hunt snakes).
Think he only liked cloud giants!
I enjoyed the character as it was the first time I played one where I tried to make sure I had enemies everywhere.

73140, Halfling=acceptable
Posted by Saagkri on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Haven't thought too much about specifics, but probably...
neutral, neutral only 24 dex, 18 str Thief, warrior, bard 100% steal, trip, evade Bonus to epic and comedic reps quiet walk like half-elves (can't see which way they leave) small size, but eats like a large size
|
73143, Ditto.
Posted by Calion on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Except not that limited, so more like:
Good or neutral 22dex 22con 18str 19int 21wis ~22cha Thief, warrior, ranger, bard, healer, druid (i.e. no true mages) Quiet movement (if not even 'inherent sneak') Small size (but not vuln blunt) Maybe vuln water, resist... mental?
Though bonus to some bard reps and some kind of inherent steal sound ok, too

I'd say not rangers because as a race, they are not explorers and stay close to home. But, as thieves, they'd be able to hide like assassins in certain non-city environments.
I'd argue for higher dex than that. Sure, they have short limbs, but they're not stubby for their size and are natural thieves. Halflings have more fast twitch muscle than strength muscle IMHO. Also, too many thief skills are dex based to shortchange halflings this way.
I'd go 24dex 18con 18str 19int 22wis ~23cha+*
*I know they're not beautiful, but should be awesome bards, so should have very high charisma since it would be required to make that happen. Come to think of it, why do elves have such high charisma? They may be beautiful to look at, but most of their personalities are off-putting if you are not an elf.
Maybe healers. Agree with above avg wis and mental resist.
Would disagree with water vuln. They fish and garden too much for that. And don't come from mountains or underground.
They should be the most natural thieves and bards in the lands. This balances with their inability to join most cabals* (any cabals* if neutral/neutral).
*PK useful powers. They'd be right at home in Herald

73146, Mandatory thick fur flaw?

73150, Heh. Also a disadvantage of no footwear to go with that.
Posted by Calion on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Oh and the water vuln thought comes from Tolkien's hobbits, who fear water, and the need to balance their good points somehow.

73164, RE: Heh. Also a disadvantage of no footwear to go with that.
Posted by Saagkri on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Big feet on a little body would give them human sized feet. I think if they were neutral align only, that would be plenty of drawback for their +s given the cabal options for neutrals.

73152, Another halfling inherent
Posted by IrishMidnight on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Auto - overlooked
Depending on their size vs another's, there's a chance that they don't appear in the same room when looking (maybe could be part auto and part manual, where the manual use could allow it to affect the where command). But it's always active for them showing up when you type look.
This wouldn't negate actively targeting them

73154, Can I just say... Myopic is the most unplayable flaw.
