71920, The attempt to suggest something
Posted by Glikberont on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
1) My mail server just got ####ed so I created the new account.
2) I'm not the person who you'll listen in terms of suggestions but I'll try. Maybe others will vote for some of ideas.
3) I ask players not to turn that thread into the Hellwhine. The hell is closed, get over it.

So about problems that we have last couple years (banning russians are not counting :) just unban! :) )

Can we:

1) Return to the idea of the "players suggest group". Aka, 3-5 well known, active, good and trustful players will have a vote in things behind the scene? Like Darwyn, Krunk, Rhyl. Players vote for the best or you choose the best, form the group. The group can suggest/discuss things with imm/imms.

2) I know it will take a lot of time and the hardass work, but you can add very tought random wandering mobs/random traps/new generated walk thought every time a group enters the area explore. The problem with ooc share information will be fixed forever. Plus something like -2 con on every char who enters the Hell (just an example).

I don't fully understand all this (no insult intended).

But I'll try to answer the bottom two.

1) Any player can suggest anything, that's what the gameplay forum is for. If a good idea is posted that imms like, we can run with it. I'm also always game to discuss things here, so I think #1 already exists.

2) I think that already exists in, at least a few, area explores. The con thing, eh, each of those decisions are left to the respective author of the area in question. If they want to, they can always edit their areas.

In terms of unbanning, it's possible depending on the situation. I'd suggest emailing imms@carrionfields.com with the request, explaining the situation, since that is how discussions are started.

1) Any player can suggest something, thats true. But as we see/saw imms/imps hardly listen playerbase (no insult here). The old idea was to give (1 vote) to that group to involve them into the process of decisions a bit more. Sure, you'll say that CF is not the democracy and there is no place for voting, but still, I think it will be good to have something like that.

2) My idea was about the Hell and OOC sharing information. Random - kills all attempts to share information. Yes, that makes the area +300% harder but thats the price of the fun and op items. Yep, its up to Scar what he'll do.

3) As for unbans, I think there is nothing to discuss, there is no way you'll listen me or anyone from the Mother Russia land.

1) It's hard to describe exactly how the listening goes, but the best I can say is that if an Imm sees something (or an idea) here and likes it, they go run it by the imm-staff and see how it goes from there. So that can and does happen. But that's substantially less likely with things like mechanical changes. In terms of a democracy, some parts of CF are, some parts aren't, and the same is true in the imm-world. Some things are up to one person (the author of an area), some are voted on (plots/lore), some are handled by IMP-tier folks (larger issues). So while I can't say that #1 can be done in the way you're saying, I can commit to reading every single post that any player posts on Gameplay. I have been doing that already, and I have no plans to quit!

2) Yeah, 100% up to the author.

3) That's not entirely true. We've had banned folks email before which resulted in them being unbanned. Sometimes it's just them promising/giving their word not to cheat or w/e again, other times it's about it being a long time ago and they think they're good to go. There is no hardrule against Russia or any other country, and I absolutely look at each situation individually.

I think part of the point of the player panel was to help ensure game balance.

Consult a few players who have played the full range of cabal, class, align, races etc, with success in pk.

That'll, hopefully, help ensure balance.

Take the time and sink the effort into becoming a member of the staff. Player input will always be just that, player input. Whether anyone wants to actually believe it, we do weigh that stuff in discussions.
71937, I suggest remove insect swarm from the spires altar room.

I'm not in a position to sink time. The reason I post but don't play is I can grab a few mins here and there. That's it. (If you recall I have a daughter with medical issues.)

Also player feedback is not always gathered before a change, and after a change the time of the feedback often breeds defensiveness rather than open minded listening.

Something I suggested as a player eventually got implemented, once upon a time. Can't remember which ideas it was, but I remember Z adding it.

I'll let you in on a secret: it's not even the case that all immortals are involved in most important decisions.

I'm not an active player any more so my game balance awareness will become increasingly out of date.

Can't see myself being able to play much until my kid goes to school, and that's only if I still work from home in a job where I can add so much value in 2 days that they assume I worked for 5, which is by no means guaranteed. Oh, and my wife would have to not be at home. :(

You should have a working room / library in your house that noone can enter cause you're a busy man and should work.

That's a problem solver.

Sadly my wife is too clever (paranoid?) for that.

She'd notice that I'm typing fast for long periods, and that my personal laptop is mysteriously absent from its usual home.

Not to mention all the shouting "die russian scum, die!!!". ;)

Get tiny o-rings to go under keys on the keyboard. I think they even sell them in sets on Amerzon for this purpose. Silent but deadly. Also, get another laptop without her permission.

- Not to mention all the shouting "die russian scum, die!!!". ;)

You need to start yelling that when you're with her and not playing CF. After awhile, when you are playing CF, she won't suspect a thing.

- Sadly my wife is too clever (paranoid?) for that.

Just start doing everything she suspects you do. By making her once irrational, baseless suspicions credible and appropriate, you have cured her of paranoia.
