69819, Stock Areas
Posted by SPN on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
So, I have been playing on and off since around 2000, and a thread on the *other* forum that went down memory lane made me wonder if there are any stock Areas left in their original form? Also, what are some.of the oldest custom areas in the game, i.e. haven't been touched in nearly 20 years?
69847, Other old areas.

Seems like the current, larger incarnation of the Eastern Road is pretty old.

Seantryn Modan has been in a long while too. Udgaard has been in its shape, but with different names a long time, right? Cealwyn Keep and Arturi are also fairly old and unchanged areas.

Aryth Ocean and Open Sea, both at least 20 years old.

I want to say Akan and Hillcrest are also unchanged for nearly that long. Maaaaybe Dagdan too.

What year was Hell put in?

You know it's crazy, but as I go through the mental map of CF when I started playing vs. now, I'm hard pressed to think of an area that hasn't been touched. Maybe just Balator, and I think Open Sea and Aryth were there, though probably not in the same shape and room count? I dunno.

Is it possible to sort the area list by date?

AFAIK the area list is roughly in chronological order.

I'm fairly certain there are no stock areas left on CF.

As for old areas that haven't been touched - the Mausoleum is largely the same as it was when it went in.
Ashes of NoWhere is a rewrite of the Forest of NoWhere but has been in for a very long time. FoN in the past exists largely as it was when it went in (which was, I believe, when Ashes of NoWhere went in).
The Battlefields, Darsylon and Lower Cragstone are all very similar to when they first went in.
A lot of the explore areas (Jade Vaults, Trothon, Octagonal, Aran'gird) haven't changed much since going in.
Balator is probably one of our oldest unchanged areas.

Ha!

What about the void!.

realm of the dead, for extra points?

Got ya there.
69850, The Void isn't an area by itself
Posted by Twist on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
When you're in the Void, if you type "where" you'll see people in the grove of the past. Which isn't stock.

Realm of the Dead is part of the overall Immortal area, which has been redone a great deal and isn't at all stock.
69857, There used to be a stock area called the void

Recall;3s2esdu

Back when Galodon was called Midgaard.. no past on the other side though, just an old morris handkerchief.

Was that when Valhalla was accessible from the center of town?

My memory is kind of hazy - its been a long time.

you would have a brand new Balator by now.

Pretty sure the last thing CF needs or wants is you as a heroimm, no offense intended.
69842, Because I have a bad attitude, or what?
Posted by Murphy on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I do have a bad attitude. That's why I get things done.

Self-complacency of the staff is what stalls things in MUDs. No offense intended.
69843, I've got you pegged as an abuser of power
Posted by Bemused on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I am sure you would contribute some impressive areas however I also think you'd make changes to suit yourself and your play style, to the detriment of other people and CF in general. I don't think it's a good trade-off because there are people out there would also write impressive areas but without the baggage.

I also think that CF doesn't need any new areas.

This is all IMHO of course.
69845, Wow, you don't know me at all.
Posted by Murphy on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I'm not even going to argue. What's the point? But I will say you are WRONG on very many levels and you don't know how I approach my work, at all.

Just looking at Balator makes me want to rewrite the everloving #### out of it.

Get to the matron mother and you'll get a chuckle for the 'old school' descriptions in there.

Battlefield is pretty old, frigid pretty darn old, darsylon old. Just some that come to mind.

I still miss elemental canyon!
69827, Those are not stock

The closest to stock is Arkham, but it's reworked a lot.

69831, The Dragon Sea
Posted by mage on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
AKA The Open Sea. It's one of the oldest areas in the game, and mostly untouched. Don't know if it's stock or not.

Teth Azleth is definitely not stock. It used to have stock names on mobs, but those have all been changed.

Battlefield has been updated a few times since I started playing in the late 90s.

Darsylon has been updated at least once since I started playing.

I agree that the Mausoleum is pretty darn old, and largely untouched for ages, to my knowledge.
69861, Not true
Posted by Ysaloerye on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
There have been additions to this area.
