All that would happen if we "rolled the edges" into the core class is people would find something else to complain about, it wouldn't fix the problem. It would just lead to some of those classes that used to need to invest the EP into the "must have" edges to have a giant pile of EP to spend on other things, in reality putting them further ahead instead of making it equal footing.
