6180, idea and perhaps workable solution for the economics problem
Posted by appelsien on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM

After playing numerous thieves between 1-35 as well as hero-ranged
character i have noticed that the economy is not all
that balanced. While in the hero-range it is easy to accumulate
a great number of coins, this is quite hard and tedious while below it.

Even though it is quite easy to find decent items to barter for others,
there is a major lack of hard currency, namely silver, copper and
golden coins.

I have an idea that could quite balance this problem.
Namely the ability to barter one object for several lesser priced
ones using a percentage system. This percentage gets added for
each additional item. For example, you could barter a 1 gold potion
for two other potions worth 250 copper in an alchemist shop (depending
on the hardcoded percentage). this percentage would go up according
to the amount of items bartered for.
I think this would balance the lowbie shortage of hard currency
and make life easier for Outlanders and applicants of said cabal.

A CEO of a fortune 500, or a 13 yr old selling lemonade?. Hero's SHOULD be able to gather copper faster than lowbies, so I don't see that as an actual problem.

The only issue I have is that when the economy project went in, many common items (food, returns, etc.) were lowered in price so that they were relatively the same value as before copper sources were cut down. The only noticeable stand out is the commonly purchased detect invis preps prior to level 35. I can only assume that this was intentional.

It does however, go a long way in increasing the value of the invisibility spell and making mages more survivable at the lower levels. Previously, the only players without a way to detect invis 24x7 were rager applicants. Now, it's not that uncommon to catch lowbie warriors without detect invis.

I don't think coin is that hard to gather at low ranks. My complaint is that it's feast or famine. Depending on certain other things, I'm either able to create 20 gold with relative ease...or I'm not able to create any whatsoever.
