60365, Theriomancy

Can you guys shed some light on this skill? How do you get it and is it as strong as lilyth made it seem?

It's a quest spell (supp, I guess) for druids. I assume it was given to Lilyth for longevity, cabal/religion success, etc. Shame on the Immortal who awarded it for not adding the appropriate history.

I'm not inclined to go into the minutia of the spell, but I will say that it has safeguards and limitations in place and is not simply "where's the hurt guy?" on a stick.

I'll also add that the vast majority of Lilyth's PK wins occurred before they were awarded this ability, which you could've found out for yourself if we'd added some history.

Not on that build, at least. I tried:
- hoping it would drain so much mana it couldn't be repeated often. Well, that didn't stop it on this build if so.
- maxing saves. If that did anything it was only to delay it working by a few rounds of spamming it
- going underwater. No good
- going civilised and underground. No good.

There was only one place in the mud where she didn't immediately show up after me, and I think that was probably because she was satisfied with the fight she got after pinning me down, and knew I'd already stripped her maladictions.

Also she didn't need to have fought you first. Or even seen you.

Also worth mentioning that you could give any char detect hidden and then observe that most of their kills were on non hidden chars. The point being it still enables someone to kill people they can't otherwise kill. Not that lilyth didn't kill me without it, but at the time she wasn't even after me. I just happened to be after the same people as her and thus walked into her trap before they did. Having said that, that power was pretty much a death sentence to my build which could otherwise avoid her. Only reason I didn't die was being by a healer when she trapped me, and potentially because someone else unexpected attacked her.

My one hero death on Forvengweth was solely due to Theriomancy. The power should be removed from the game and whoever thought it up dragged over hot coals.

Didn't the imms agree that rewards would be significantly less powerful as of a couple of years ago?

Last couple I got were cool because they added uniqueness to the char but with no appreciable boost in power. Which is what I thought everyone had agreed was best, relative to big boosts in lethality?

That was specifically with regards to role contests, and specifically for one year as an experiment if I recall correctly.

Thanks.

I'll repeat: there are defenses against this spell. That said, this spell is particularly effective against certain builds in particular and I imagine yours was one of them, so I might expect your experience to have been literally the worst possible matchup against Theriomancy. Them's the breaks.

My point being that Lilyth had done the majority of her killing by the time she got the reward and while in theory maybe it significantly increased her power and ability to find targets, in practice it was not responsible for very many kills, or even (in my opinion) many kills she almost certainly wouldn't have gotten without it, unlike say, detect hidden would've been.

Anyways, your disdain is noted. Personally, I probably wouldn't have given this spell to the #1 PKer on the MUD, but well, I didn't. But Lilyth is gone now and I have no intention of making any changes to Theriomancy any time soon, and if things play out as they typically do we probably won't see it in the wild again for quite some time (though never say never).

Because I'm just itching to spend my edge points.

On builds that nature doesn't like. Eg those that disturb animals.

Quite a few animist spells have something like that in the helpfile.
