5856, Centurions one more time (specific gripe)
Posted by Domino on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Okay... so I try to kill this RAGER at the Centurions, and I'm getting my butt kicked, so I try to flee. Now, for some reason, the Centurions "block my way with quiet menace", and I end up dying. I come back to my corpse, and then the Rager just walks away from the Centurions, even though she had just attacked an Imperial. Now that's the crap I'm talking about that pisses me off. I can't think of any other power/skill/spell in the entire game the prevents the way of fleeing, save bloody manacles, and that's only held by the Vindicator, whereas nearly EVERYONE who has progressed within the Empire can call Centurions. You want ideas? I have an idea. You should always be able to flee from Centurions, period. If you're summoned, you should have free will to go whichever way you want. Their designed (even a the desc) as a roadblock, so if you don't come there by free will, then what? Regardless, they shouldn't block you because you're fighting someone of a rival cabal, and then later let that same person you were fighting just walk away, even though they were the one fighting the Imperial. I think that's ####.

5873, AT LEAST remove the "you turn away" echo

No damned reason for me to be hiding and everyone to know that I turned away from the roadblock. Sorry if I sound riled, but I hate Centurions.

There can be several reasons you could not pass.
First, you can always return the way you came (if you walk) from centurions, so perhaps you tried to flee in a direction you did not walk in from. Second, perhaps the rager left the way they came, -or- perhaps they paid to be let by the roadblock. Summoning to centurions is another story, that can hurt. Perhaps being able to walk or flee in a random direction would help some. *shrug* Third, a polearm spec has a skill called 'cutoff' (I think that's the one) and using the length of his polearm, they are able to "cutoff" your route of escape, thus preventing you from fleeing. So yes, there -are- other skills like this in the game, perhaps just not as efficient. Finally. Some things just need to be taken with a grain of salt... though sugar might help more. *shrug*
Hope that helps.

Summoning to centurions is another story, that can hurt.
This isn't actually possible, and in fact, this should suggest the basis of a few counter-strategies for centurions.

Really? I could have sworn I was summoned to them a few days ago, but I could be mistaken. I may have ran into them instead. What makes me think this, was not being able to walk in any direction without being stopped by the them. I was however blind so I could have just missed an exit.
Thanks for the info though. That's good stuff to know!

5874, Not the point smart ass (Question for IMMs at bottom)
Posted by Domino on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
First, you can't always return the way you came from what I've seen. Whenever I fight an Imperial, I can't flee in any direction. I'm just stuck. As for your warrior advice.. Shove it.
Anyway, the point is that Centurions are cheesy, period. No other cabal in the game can make you go through three deathtraps (besides maybe Outlanders, but that ability is class oriented, not "power" oriented) before you even get to the cabal, each with the ability to prevent you from fleeing. As well, no other cabal has means to keep lowbies from retrieving for the simple fact A) The Centurions were called by a high ranked IMperial and are hitting for DEMOS, or B) They have to, don't want to, or can't give up an item to get by (before you miss the point and argue this point alone, stop... that's it, just stop). Emperor with piercing gaze? I can deal with that Vindicator with bloody manacles? Still sucks like all hell, but it's one person, so I can deal with that Transmuters being able to avoid PK even when marked, yet still have the ability to perma-lag? Well, we're getting closer, but I can deal with that Invokers hanging around ranking spots and using detect invis to hassle/kill people? Whatever floats your boats
But Centurions suck, period. I don't know why the Imm staff loves them so much. In fact, all ####, tempers, and disagreements aside, what is it that you guys love so much about Centurions? The bulk (maybe I'm overexaggerating, but the outcry is loud enough) of the playerbase doesn't like them, so what is keeping you from modifying/ommiting them from the game? Honest question that I hope I can get an answer to

I'll admit that Centurions are annoying, and I've never played an Imperial before, but for my own personal experiences, they just don't matter. They are easily avoided by side roads or hacking my way through, or any number of things. They are useful strategic tools for the Empire, and I can completely understand why and how they use them.
As far as being an Imperial and not being able to flee, I can understand this too. Here is this pair of evil, powerful Centurions watching you get your butt kicked, and then you want to flee away like a coward? Of course they'd say no. So, I can see this as alright too.
I think the IMMs don't change them because they don't see the problem. They are well used, just weak enough, and make you have to think tactics instead of "charge forward and kill anything in your path"

5881, So I can flee from a fight but not Centurions? RIIIGHT...

And as I said, there's no other power given to so many people in one cabal that makes you have to go out of the way, that makes you have to pay, that makes you have to kill them to get by, and that alerts every damn Imperial with CB on the minute you do. Give me a break...

I wasn't being a smartass. It's obvious from both your post that you were angry when you wrote them. Perhaps in your angry you failed to look at things from a different p.o.v. As Imm's have said themselves, take a moment to cool off before posting on something you don't like. I was trying to help with my post by offering you the info you had failed to see.
> Honest question that I hope I can get an answer to
You got one set of honest answers from a few honest questions before, and yet, "shove it" was your reply. Seeing that kind of attitude toward someone who was trying to help, what's that going to make the next round of people who wish to help you think?

5882, I wouldn't have bothered if it was cutoff. Didn't need that advice nt

As for your warrior advice.. Shove it.
Then you'll understand when we give your rants the same courtesy and respect.
so what is keeping you from modifying/ommiting them from the game?
Speaking for myself, largely the fact that I think their power is about right.
