58223, Sigil Of Pain
Posted by Ouch that hurts! on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Not sure why nobody has ever asked this question. Why is it that one of the most powerful skills in the game does not allow for a saving throw?
Coporeal Softening and Decalcify both get spell saves. Healing curse another top tier Empire power fails often due to people making the save.
In one round you nearly double your damage output with the only worry the skill failing due to not being perfected.

58225, Insect swarm works the same way (there is text after edit)

but insect swarm doesnt wake you up until the next tick when it affects you.

58238, not exactly

Chance of landing insects has some factors based on terrain and if you are inside or outside.
Also insects cares about ganking to a degree whereas sigil doesn't in any way.

58245, Not exactly.

I have seen insects called inside the palace, inside the spire, in every major city, without fail. It the chance to fail is based on terrain, it affects the chance to land very little. It's landed on me first try every try.
Sigil cares about ganking.

58246, My experience is different than yours

I had no trouble calling insects on people whether it was indoors, outdoors, civilized or wilderness. I cannot speak on the matters of anti-gang and insects cause I rarely was in those situations.
The biggest difference I found with insects and terrain/civilized etc was how long it would be before I could call it again. If used in a city for instance, I couldnt use insects again for a while, but if I used it at the Refuge I could pop it again in very short order.

Cloud of wasps, which is terrain dependant. Insects is not.
Also the likelihood of surviving a gank long enough to lose insects is minimal. At best you managed to escape despite still being under the insects affect and just don't have to deal with them for as long afterwards.
I don't have a dog in this fight as I'm in neither cabal and I've never had either power.
However, sigil does not scare me, because my opponent is lagging himself when he uses it and if the extra damage is expected to be a problem, I'll just run away before it is fatal. If I'm slept and sigil is placed on me I'll escape.
Insects does scare me. Running away from an outtie in the wilds is tough, particularly from the refuge. It's also hard to evade a Druid for long no matter where you are. On top of that, you can have it called on you while you are slept without being woken. Maybe even when snared without being freed. I forget but I do remember a close call where insects were placed on me without giving me a chance to flee.
Not to mention that insects prevents rest and does steady and significant damage.
Overall, it's the fact that you can't just run when it is applied that makes insects by far the nastier. Particularly as if may be applied without you having a clue that there's an attack incoming.

58224, Because it's an Emperor/Sect Leader power. Literally only 2 people in the entire mud can use it at any given time. n/t

Using your logic, why isn't healing curse 100% success rate?

58230, Every orderly good conjurer has healing curse.

58250, don't need to be orderly or good for that

Though admittedly that's something they need to be fairly happy to pull out so an evil likely won't reach that plateau but even they might be able to get really lucky.
