58126, Pepper Dust

A few months ago pepper was changed so that it could finally be healed with healers, cure blindness supplication and oils of sight.

Was Truesight purposely over looked in this update? It's beyond annoying be completely neutralize by a single skill for 10+ hours. It doesn't make sense that truesight doesn't work when the other types of healing can cure it.

That change to cure blindness was more like four years ago unless I'm looking at the wrong thing, and pepper dust isn't the only thing cure blindness can cure and truesight cannot.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one yet. If someone else wants to take your suggestion then great, but I'm probably happy with truesight as-is.

58131, Is the duration 10+ hours? If so, is this the only ability with such a long duration that truesight cannot cure?

I'm aware of a few things truesight cannot cure but everything I can think of has a short duration like flash.

Pretty rough on a rager who can't quaff/cure to be blind for so long, if that's the case.

It looks like the duration could be 10+ hours, yeah.

Like you said, that's rough. On the other hand, pepper dust requires a full investment in the trapper path and there is exactly one character on the MUD right now that has the skill. I'm going to side with the lone guy playing the path that very few people make look easy.
58134, had a similar issue

when I played a muter, in that I felt repair organ should probably help with this?

One character, and one group of characters who zero ways to deal with this skill.

This one character can neutralize an entire raid with a one-round skill. It's not as if the the skill utilizes trap ingredients, if that were the case I'd be ok with not being able to cure it.

Not only neutralize a raid, but completely destroy a villager. Pepper dust, centurions behind him, and then hit flee, go heal, hit flee, go heal, since the villager won't be able to hit the centurions.

Man wish you were around to take this path in regards to not nuking trapper thieves 4 years ago when I was the only trapper thief and they made it easily curable.

Battle trapper has it much worse than empire trapper though, as battle enemies can just recall and heal blindness and then run back, or quaff a potion as many fort did. Battle Trappers also lose the ability to use most of the better traps as the ingredients are flagged magical for whatever reason.

Really the only thing pepper dust really hurts against is battle players (and possibly orcs since they don't recall directly to a healer capable of curing blindness) if left with truesight not being able to cure.

58139, I don't blame you for wanting to keep teeth on a pretty niche skill

It just seems like aim was taken specifically at ragers when whoever made that change gave everyone in the mud except ragers the somewhat limited ability to cure it, unless it truly was an oversight like was originally asked.

Perhaps you would be open to an alternate suggestion? I get allowing truesight to cure it would pretty much make the skill useless against ragers which is what it sounds like you don't want. Instead, how about letting the village healer cure it like what is available to other characters? Another suggestion would be to let defenders be able to cure it through poultice or bandage.

At least then it will still be a very useful skill against ragers but there will be a situational out for the ragers too.
58141, village healer can cure blindness..can't it?
Posted by Sarien on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I know it definitely can cure plague/poison/etc if you got the monies.
58142, Now you've got me wondering about that
Posted by TJHuron on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I have it in my head that it does not. Maybe I'm mistaken.

If it does then I'd be satisfied and have nothing more to say on this discussion.

Village healer has same list as other healers minus the +hp stuff.

Herbal Medicine even with the extra points in edge doesn't cure it either. I was surprised since it cures all other forms of physical/magical/prayer blindness even from liches and herbal medicine has a timer.

However, since pepperdust is the top of their tree, I don't think curing it should be guaranteed, but there should be at least a percnetage chance. Especially since one can only herb after a semi-long herb timer every time they fail.

Its already pretty awesome with a 11 hour timer and hitting an ENTIRE room. And having a light waking affect of damage.
