57582, More questions the playerbase simply must have answered
Posted by Doof on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
1) Will Thar-Eris every REALLY return? I need to know so I can tell the Outties I meet to STFU.

2) Why do Russian players seem to gravitate towards Empire?

3) *deleted* Why can he not walk 10 steps to get some water?
3a) If it's not too late for Santa Umiron, I would recommend that Simon get a permanent canteen.

4) Are there really different Imms, or is there just one person masterminding everything?

5) As for you Imms, where did you get your names from? Imagination, or snippets of something you read?

6) How do you pronounce Ysalothorain? You know which one I mean.

7) Is the Balator orphanage sponsored by the Empire, or is it a private non-profit?

8) Can paladins have to be warriors first to prove they're not a tool before getting wrath?

9) For upcoming races, could we get another type of gnome or felar? There are already 3 elves (4 if you count half-elf) and 4 giants.

10) Who's the ugliest Imm? Be honest.

No faction will ever win out totally, though who knows what a New Age would bring. Otherwise just think that fluxes back and fort just makes for interesting stuff in game.
>2) Why do Russian players seem to gravitate towards Empire?
Who knows, maybe they all just like the militaristic nature of ordering people around?
>3) *deleted* Why can he not walk 10 steps to get some water?

Why does he need to when he has an endless supply of peons to do it for him.

>4) Are there really different Imms, or is there just one

We are like the Borg, once assimilated.

>5) As for you Imms, where did you get your names from?
>Imagination, or snippets of something you read?
Pretty much made up and sounds dwarfy.

>6) How do you pronounce Ysalothorain? You know which one I
>mean.
\ \ - \
Ysalorye - EE-sal-O-ray now remember I am Scots so the vowel sounds all go down except on the O which is flat with no inflection. (tone markers added to demonstrate.

>7) Is the Balator orphanage sponsored by the Empire, or is it
>a private non-profit?
Not for profit although there are rumors of kickbacks from the Empire at the number of future recruits it produces.

>8) Can paladins have to be warriors first to prove they're not
>a tool before getting wrath?
To a man with wrath everything looks evil.

>9) For upcoming races, could we get another type of gnome or
>felar? There are already 3 elves (4 if you count half-elf)

What about a half gnome half giant, although both sides of the procreation background might be a bit too much to contemplate.

>10) Who's the ugliest Imm? Be honest.
IC ME! Ysalorye is one fugly dwarf! Gits!

1)
lim ((2x^10)^3 + 3x^6)/15 years, is the time until its return.
x->infinity

2) Because Empire is basically like Russian politics with (slightly) more armor and longswords?

3) Ever sent your kid to turn the TV on? Or grab you a beer from the fridge? Now you know.

4) Actually the CF staff (or Staffnet as Zulg called us) is a highly advanced AI program. We achieved full self-awareness in '05.

5) My name was a bastardization of Tolkien's Mandos from the Simarillion (http://lotr.wikia.com/wiki/Mandos)

However, most people believe it is a bastardization of a particular brand of mints. Lots of freshmaker jokes have been made. Don't believe me? Search for "help freshmaker".

6) No idea. Pronunciation is outside my program function.

9) Maybe. Staffnet will process your request, calculate all possible futures, and select the optimal course of action.

10) If we are talking IC terms, I'd have to nominate Thrak, or Ysal.

If we are talking OOC terms, and if the CF staff aren't actually a self-aware AI program, which is a big if, then I might be. Being from Europe, I am pretty much viewed by the staff as the real life personification of Family Guy's "Buzz Killington":

57598, At least you're not Mr. James William Bottomtooth III. NT

Because we know which IMM that is.
57599, Thank you, that was beautiful.

Seriously, thank you.

1 - Not fully? But there's fun potential in quests and stuff. Magic will never truly be dead, evil will never be eradicated, Empire will never successfully subjugate All The Things.

2 - Many people who are not strong on English are uncomfortable with things that require interviews. Empire's auto induct code takes care of this niche.

3 - Simon's all about challenging you to do it your damn self!

4 - We Are Legion

5 - Mine just sort of came to me like any other character name would.

6 - Y'sall-o-THOR-ain. Or, for the god I pronounce it Y'Sall-o-rye. (like the bread). I've found no one pronounces the same stuff the same. We had beers with Thrak a few times and he is always pronouncing "cabal" as "cable" whereas I have a (midwestern?) emphasis on the back end of the word. cab-BALL. For some reason this difference really tickled me. That's just a real word example, it gets steadily crazier when you talk made up names.

7 - Already answered.

8 - No

9 - Nope.

10 - Uh. You mean in game or out? In game...Ysal. Fo sho. Love the biddy but...yikes. In real life I think the player makes a scary looking woman too but that's a different story.
57594, Cabal

57588, It's players with bad English who gravitate towards Empire
Posted by Murphy on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Not necessarily Russians.
57589, Wait... is this still a thing?
Posted by KoeKhaos on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I haven't met anyone with my two Empire characters that seemed ESL. Either they have REALLY matured in the English language or it's not Russians in Empire right now.
57590, No idea to be honest.
Posted by Murphy on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
There probably aren't enough ESL guys left.
However, none of the Russian players I know are in Empire right now.
57585, Orphanage is sponsored by the predecessor to Fortress.
Posted by KoeKhaos on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
If you look at Jaragh in the Orphanage you'd know that. :P

Yes. We will be getting another type of gnome called a "Halfling"
