56843, Did you guys change the flee command in any way shape or form?
Posted by TMNS on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I failed a bunch a flees the other day in a 3-exit room (4 in a row). Also had real difficulty fleeing from 2-exit rooms (like 10+).
Could just be a terrible string of ####ty flee luck, but figured I'd ask (can't hurt to ask).

I would imagine that you and perhaps the majority of people who seem to be having trouble with the flee command have selected the 'macho' flaw. If that does not apply to you, then it is some terribly disheartening luck with the RNG.

56864, I freaking knew it!!!!!!

I asked that question on newbie channel at like level 8 (IE two weeks ago).
The IMM in question said he was pretty sure that macho only affected yelling/consider, but he wasn't sure (probably was a HeroIMM).
I kinda figured that might be it. Was it always that way? I don't remember having as difficult time with other character's I've chosen the flaw with.
I mean, it makes sense.
Thanks for clearing that up. I knew my RNG-luck couldn't be THAT bad for THAT long.

Yeah, this came up the other night and I got the clarification from Team Code that it does indeed have an impact. The helpfile for 'macho' has also been updated to reflect it.

I had this flaw as a mortal, and it directly led to my death at least once. Any flaw is going to have a significant impact on your character.

56870, Macho didn't use to have as much drawback as it does now...

but I am pretty sure it has been tweaked over time. I used to take it on all my outlanders so I wouldn't yell when guards attacked me to give me a better chance of sneaking up on people in towns. I think a lot of ppl did this which almost made it more of an edge.

56874, We keep saying this.

Any flaw is going to have a significant impact on your character.
Macho has always worked this way. When we laid out the initial set of Flaws, we spent a lot of time making sure that they were terrible trades for the person picking them. If anyone thinks they're getting a good deal by picking a Flaw, we're giggling at them.

56875, If it was always that way, then why wasn't it in the helpfile?

I'm giggling at you now as an administrator.

56876, To be fair...
Posted by Destuvius on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
It was implied pretty heavily. BUT we have been making strides to make sure that our helpfiles are more transparent and less murky when it comes to important info that is presented in them.
|
56877, I'm pretty sure when flaws came out it was openly discussed that macho greatly impacts your ability to flee.
Posted by Lhydia on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
It fo sho isn't anything new that macho impacts flee.
|
56878, Searched and didn't find anything on officials about it.
Posted by TMNS on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Was it on Dio's?
And I don't mind that it impacts flee. Makes sense, right? You're so macho you're not going to flee.
At the same time, it would have been nice for the helpfile to reflect that. If it's always been that way, how come the helpfile has never reflected it?
Mostly because I was wondering why the #### my character had absurdly terrible flee luck. And if the helpfile had said that, I wouldn't have been wondering why I couldn't flee.
FWIW Macho is still a rough flaw, even without the bad fleeing. You can't consider any mob that is stronger than you (IE you have to be a total VET to not die a hundred mob deaths) and you don't yell (which, for non-Outlanders, can be a pain in the ass...I can't tell you how many terrible flags I caught because someone would attack me, I wouldn't yell, and then they would be dead and the Trib would see me over their body and viola WANTED).

To the best of my knowledge, it hasn't changed in a long time.

56847, Ditto here...
Posted by Moligant on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I thought it had changed as well. Fleeing has been repeatedly of late really really hard to do, as in six or secven tries at least. Enough times on enough occassions to not be random bad luck when compared to every other character I've had.
