56568, Plague Malison

Does this increase your chance of contracting the plague (or any) disease?

My assumption has always been no based on how other malison spells work, and that it only makes you more vulnerable to disease type damage.

But it's brought up a lot on the other board.
56570, Why would you expect an answer?

When the helpfile says you have to work out the effects by experimentation?

If, having experimented, you can't tell the difference, then it probably isn't worth worrying about.
56573, Because its existence is common knowledge

And its effects are discussed whenever sleep+plague/scourge comes up.

I didn't think of whether or not it's supposed to be secret, admittedly. But I would not have asked for the specifics on something actually poorly known like malaise or perplex, for example. Plague malison isn't so rare a topic of discussion.

Also it has no helpfile that says that, or helpfile at all specifically. Minor malison's helpfile says that you should work it out. Malison just says that the class of spell exists.

It's also been talked about before:

"A) Only necromancers and anti-paladins really want it; most of the other cases for its use are too niche (e.g., I'm a transmuter and I'm going to hope to KO people with disrupt organ, then brandish this plague staff, then get PM on them)"

Which would seem to indicate that it doesn't do what many insist that it does. Confirmation would be interesting if it's not considered a secret.
56574, Why,

Would you do plague before plague malison if plague malison is supposed to make it easier to land plague? Plague malison is clearly something that makes plague worse if you already have it, in some fashion. Damage or otherwise.

If it is purely a damage multiplier then it would make sense to plague first. If it decreases resistance to plague landing then you would cast it first.
56597, Right...

That's what I said.

Read Daev's post. He would know what it does and he says Plague Malison comes after plague.

56598, So you did!
