56487, Looting and Realism
Posted by Lokain on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
So there has been a lot of talk on the forums recently about how farming gold has been "nerfed". I'm okay with these changes, I think it makes sense. I've always been a little annoyed with these players because even though it's within the mechanics of the game, it's not within the spirit of it.
However, if we're going for realism, lets talk about looting.
It seems absolutely ridiculous that someone can just type "g all corpse" and completely clean out a character with a full loot. Wouldn't it be a lot more realistic if you could only take one item at a time from a PC with a little bit of lag involved? No lag for taking their coins because they're presumably in a coin purse that could just be snatched away. Taking a ring of a finger in RL takes a bit of time, let alone taking off someone's pants without taking off their boots first. Ok this is starting to sound a little rapey..
Anyway, I think that would probably boost the funstick level as well. I could see edges involved that could make looting easier.
Edit: It also may make people more willing to engage in skirmishes that they might otherwise avoid.

56496, Not sure it would change much.

If someone wanted to full loot someone, they would just quickly begin typing take 1. corpse, it would ultimately lead to the same thing unless the person's pit was right next to them.
On that note, I don't think anyone has a problem with dying. Nor do people have a problem with being looted. Most don't even have a problem with being left naked though its still kinda crappy that people take stuff they don't need.
However, its when people kill you and/or full loot you repeatedly in a short amount of time that get people angry and frustrated. Now how common that is in the actual game? i don't know but I've been told from reliable sources that it is rare. :)

56498, I just like the idea that they have a choice they need to make

Furthermore, I think that full loots happen sometimes because it's easier to just get out of Dodge and go through it later.
I think it could force some cool tactical play.
You couldn't just grab #### and keep fighting to defend the fortress. You'd have to leave the corpse if you wanted to do the right thing and destroy evil or whatever.
While picking through the loot it would give the opportunity for someone to jump the looter.

56514, I think simply disallowing 'get all corpse' from another player's corpse would be a postive change

It wouldn't affect much to be sure, only knife edge or borderline situations.

56493, If I'm a giant and I kill you....

And I want some of the stuff in your corpse but I don't have much time...
Realistically I'm just going to shove your corpse in a sack and go through your things later.
Quit sacrificing what makes sense for realism and just let things be.

56488, Looting shouldn't be harder. Nor should dying.

People already hold onto the same set for too long.. as is.
