56325, RE Farming Lowbie PKs for Edges
Posted by Curious on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
With the changes to the exploration system and edge points there is now a huge void in the expectation of edge availability at low levels and I have noticed that people are multikilling newbies more frequently as well as rolling up trash characters to help their friends farm edge points.

Have you guys considered removing the pre 25 pk edge benefits and could you see if there is a negative trend here as far as the numbers go since Twist revealed how pk edges work?
56326, What changes are you talking about? I didn't know the edge point system had been changed

Not since Twist Kringle explained them at least

Specifically how you can't go do organia trothon hamsah docks under dark etc etc etc until higher levels now.
56328, Ok, right.

I did not know that was making people farm edge points with lowbie pk.

You can still explore alot of areas and get edge points after level 11. Just because you can't go to organia or trothon at an early level doesn't mean you still can't get a few edges by 25.

56329, 'A few' at 25 means PKing. And writing a role.

I've hit 25 with 15 PK''s a few times, taken one edge and been back to nothing showing up on discuss.
56332, It does not mean pking. I've done it recently. You just have to work a little harder at it

But you have to work hard at pking too

And yes I agree you do need to write a role.

Some of us get 500 for our roles every time.

I also refuse point blank to go through areas typing l 2.;l 3.;l 4. etc etc.

I used to make it a habit to run through high tower and look at anything at precisely level 15. After the 12th time it got kind of tedious and I started using a script. Then I realised I was using a script and I don't do it any more. I refuse. It's not not fun. It's not exploration. It's not observation. It's grind.

I've never scripted the docks. I've never made a concerted effort to see every ship. Even if I did the high tower that's what, 2k obs/explore? I don't even know where else to get it. Maybe less than 500 from moudrilars, perhaps 500-100 from looking at stuff in protected cities? I don't know. It's not how I want to spend my time.

My score exp invariably shows the following things in this order: skill exp, commerce exp, exploration exp, observation exp, imm exp.

Where was I going with this? Yes, if you're a 500-every-time role exp guy and you don't like to look at mobs you've already looked at countless times for hours on end (I submit that nobody should want to be doing this and those that do are either scripting, i.e. cheating, or masochistic freaks on a level this masochistic freak cannot fathom), you do need to PK for early edges. Of course, the counter is that very few edges are actually things you need.
56338, I don't see this as a bad thing

For example I get my 15 pks per range, but I don't kill any newbs more than once (unless perhaps the second time they are in a group trying to gank me).

However I can see that the aggregate affect for newbs could be off putting. I would suggest that newbies have a cap to their power but in return get some perks. Eg outfit gives a recall and teleport potion, and every time they die they get a tip about pk. Maybe a small uplift to hp or defenses. However, they can only assist in or make a small number of pks (less than 20 say) before having to delete and come back as a non newb.

Imms would need to watch for abuse by, for example, healers.

The general idea being to make life easier for newbs but make it unattractive for vets to claim to be newbs.
56339, I dislike the level limits on things.

I hate the idea that I have to do certain things before a certain level or else I can't do it anymore.

Its not to say that it doesn't make sense for some places but basically it change the mood from one where you do something when you have time and feel like it, to one that feels like something you need to farm before you lose your opportunity.

I almost feel like all the obs/explore you can get before level you hit the hero ranges should be nerfed to the ground even more. However to compensate the explore/obs you can gain at hero should be increased. There should indeed be some small benefit for checking things out in the appropriate level in some areas but the benefit shouldn't feel as if its something you -need- to do else you lose a lot of edge points.

I'm not sure how I feel about pk edge points per level ranges. On the one hand there should be incentive to pk at all level. However at the same time it feels like things like this make it too tempting for certain players to find ways to abuse. And again there is this feeling that its something i -need- to do before i can level else I miss out on something. I hate that feeling. At the end of the day not sure if that additional bonus is even needed since there is already a bonus for your over all pk count. I think just making your first five or ten pks give you a generous amount of edge points would be enough incentive to pk at any point.
56345, But Hamsah docks is a low level area

Are you saying that low levels can't get exploration xp from there any more?

You can, but it should all be done post level 10.
56348, Just observation xp even if under level 10.

Though it is a generous amount especially given the level and safety. Then again I could have missed something but I just got observation xp.
