56110, Immortal Champions
Posted by Tsunami on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Demi-god PCs controlled by immortals. Immortals can even have a cadre of them to roll out from time to time. Could use them for all sorts of stuff.

Baer's champion and Destuvius champion appear on the field to rally the troops and big war takes place for instance.

Can play into story lines or quests or just interacting with random groups exploring. Big goodie group encounters a lich controlled by scarab while out hunting dragons. Maybe they bargain, maybe they kill, whatever.

Of course, the first time one kills a player, foul will be cried because players are whiney types of folk who demand PC actions from their game admins (PC being nothing allowed that harms me!).

So, killed by a champion, you don't lose con and your gear goes directly back to you.

Maybe champions carry some special gear sometimes and can be killed for it.

I don't know, seems like a lot of possibilities there and a way to expand the pantheon without glutting it up with too many full on gods. Plus, new ways to interact with the players/world/whatever.
56113, I'd rather see.

Just Immortals on the field of battle.

Villagers attacking Twist is always good.

I've been immolated by Marcatis for not letting a Trib kill the giant to get the scales back from the village.

I have no problem with Immortals taking a part in cabal wars as long as it's along the lines of a five hour immolate or plague on an enemy, not a slay or anything like that.

Sure, some of the playerbase will claim it's unfair, but some of the playerbase claims everything is unfair, so whatever.
56114, I still laugh when I think about choking out Twist :) NT

56116, That too.

I'm all for it. The idea with champions is to make a surmountable obstacle. You can't really kill Twist, but maybe you can kill his magic dog.
56111, I can already hear the whining now.

There's already enough belief that immortal favoritism has too much influence in the game. Rightly or wrongly, an immortal champion taking the field of battle would lead to more carping.

A little discretion is used and both sides have a champion for situations like that.

Worries about immortal favoritism are already at max. Baer or whoever can already give over-powered quest forms or modify character sheets for 25 stats across the board (or whatever cheating people want to perceive). I don't think this would allow anything above what is already possible in terms of favoritism.

You are right though, the same folks that already whine like giant babies will continue to do so. Maybe we should ignore them instead of letting them hamper the progression of the game.
56117, Dangerous idea

Immortals don't know all the context of a fight. What looks like an unfair gank that warrants a champion helping out might be saving the gear that got looted from someone that died to an even more unfair gank.
56118, I agree with some points from both sides.

In theory something like this could be possible. In practice it would need to be carefully put into action in order to not impede players.

Probably the best way to go about this would be to only have Immortal champion pitted against Immortal champion. For example, in a battle between Empire and Outlander Strienat's avatar and Destuvius' avatar are battling it out on the sidelines. Also, no area affects would be entirely preferable.

I definitely agree that to get involved in PK battles in any way, shape, or form as an Imm (or an Imm controlled mob outside of a quest), is stepping into very dangerous territory. It could be cool, yes, and has been in the past, but it could also open up a big can of worms.
56138, I tried to disembowel Enlilth like 8 times last time he stepped into the fray. Don't think he liked it.

Twist turned me into a toad but it was all gravy.
56892, Was this when he was a hero imm?

Just curious because imms can't fall below 1 hp and so they usually set their hp at 1 so they will always be in perfect health no matter how much damage you do to them and they would have to be writhing to disembowl.
