55046, Is this class over-powered in today's CF? Today's class: Assassins.

Assassins are neat. Here are some truths about assassins.
Assassins get a malediction on par with nearly any class that can also make an opponent drop a weapon strength gear be damned (Kotegashi)
Assassins get a malediction on par with nearly any class that can also slow an opponent (Kansetsewaza)
Assassins get hide in both cities and some wilderness areas. They also get sneak. Those are nice.
Assassins get a skill that lets them ignore blindness for a single opponent, that's swell (Mark of the Prey).
Assassins get a lagging move than functions like trip (1.9 to them, 2 to you) but can hit for two MANGLES and also maledict (Throw)
Assassins get kicks, like, a lot of kicks. They do different things, most of them awesome! That's nice.
Assassins get a skill that when you have a certain edge, you can maledict foes in one round...that's pretty sweet.
Assassins get a built-in source of damage reduction that is on par with ABS. That's pretty nice.
Assassins can kill anyone in one hit. Assassinations are cool.
I almost feel like if I was an assassin, I would suck because I have TOO MANY options to kill people.
Are assassins OP?

55133, Get back to me when you magically steamroll your entire PK ranger with your uber-sassin. ~

55056, Not op

Very versatile, but ultimately people will only die to them if the people choose to gamble or screw up.
Bear in mind that exploiting a vuln has recently been made less useful to assassins.
I love the class but play them only rarely. I don't find them op at all when I'm not one.

Is this a serious question? Assassins are scary if I'm playing something that can't pincer them down in two shots (and therefore they can repeatedly try and fail assassinate on me) or if they've got DB and I'm particularly weak to both h2h and burst damage...but outside of those two obscure scenarios I don't really see them as very good.
They're incidentally also scary if they manage to get near 100% assassinate...but that's so tedious to do that you rarely see it.
That's talking at hero range, they're far scarier pre-40.

It hasn't even been six months since people were trying to make a case that assassins weren't competitive in hero range anymore.
It's amazing how fast the pendulum swings on not just cabals but classes, too.

55049, Assassins are more beast mode than a 2000 charge AP.

No, not really.
1) Do not have lots of weapons options (Mace, Axe, Flail, Whip, Polearm) 2) Lots of things cannot be thrown much like things can't be tripped. 3) Kot/Kan don't work as often as you would like in PVP and most once laid out with that flee before you can do anything 4) Kicks woohoo, situational at best. 5) Assassination - required you to sit and wait around a guy for a while RL to kill them. You don't get that a lot. 6) Nerve nerve nerve nerve nerve Bash bash bash bash flurry flyto X; peck X - shift offense form, rake/trip/trample c neurgo, soften, slow, distrupt, PWK, Sleep, curse, poison, crimson, blind, weaken, forget, etc... Cleave, iceball iceball, bash bash Quicksand, immolate, pillar, iceneedle, etc etc Sooo many options) Blackjack;steal, bind... (Well I have never played the new thieves) Co Hunt, sunray, moonbean, shapeshift bear, spores
... okay so many things have SO many options. If assassins are as OP as you think play them solely and destroy all balance in the game until it is fixed. Exploit the game mechanics you see here. I think in the end you will find that they are not so OP as you would like to think they are.
Assassin wins are 100% situational and you must sit and bide your time or just be an overwhelming force that it didn't matter if you were an assassin, warrior, or Hippo on a rage.
:Edit: Sorry, this was supposed to be under the original post not D-man's post.

55052, I also heard people say lowbie mages suck...

...and so I went 60-12 with one that you guys hated :)
I really don't want to delete my current just to abuse things, too. I'm always the one who starts playing something at the time it gets re-balanced.
I've always thought assassins, transmuters and druids are too powerful at all levels. That's just me though (trannies are the second "Is this class OP" coming soon).

55054, All classes are OP :)

Some less so than others.
Assassins are just so damn convenient. It's been too long since I've played that class. Maybe nowadays I can finally try and be good with it.

55110, I dunno...I kick the crap out of assassins with my current.
