54959, Racial max luck
Posted by incognito on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Would imms be willing to share racial maxes for luck?
I've always felt that certain races feel unlucky relative to others.

54966, Now the real question is:
Posted by Mort on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Does every race have the same roll when the luck stat is chosen at creation? For instance does an elf have better luck than a fire giant on average?

Classes,
Thieves and bards get a bonus, not sure about the rest.
|
54972, Where are you getting this from?
Posted by Valguarnera on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
It's both very specific, and has no basis in any of the code I looked at.

54973, So, like, you know, you could say what the truth is.

Or you could be you (whom I love, mostly though for your fantasy baseball excellence) and just you know, tell people they are wrong and not say why.

54976, RE: Speculation
Posted by Valguarnera on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Elsewhere in the thread it was stated that class wasn't a factor.
Given that I don't want to answer an infinite number of "What if?" questions while someone states with confidence that they know how it works (with strange specificity, down to particular classes), I'd like to know the source of said information.
It's possible it worked another way in the distant past, or that my 3 minutes of background search missed some other area of the code where this goes down, but I'm not seeing anything.
If it's idle speculation or third-hand rumors, at least label it as such so people can weight their expectations accordingly.

54978, I may have the answer
Posted by laxman on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I believe it was in one of those santa zulg threads that it was mentioned some classes have a higher luck stat when they roll up than others but it was still a little random.
NBM may be confusing starting stat with max stat.

For what it's worth, to the best of my knowledge this even isn't true and has never been true.

54983, So just curious...
Posted by Anti-Hero on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
All races and classes roll up with the exact same luck stat no matter what, and it is only modified by holding/wearing certain items and the lucky edge?

At the risk of seeming vague earlier in retrospect, now that's a slightly different question.
Your starting luck is based partly on your stats, with lower stats generally being better (for luck purposes) than high ones. In some ways this is an artifact of stat rolling -- as a poor consolation prize you would get a slightly higher luck if you took a crappy role. Which, to be absolutely clear, is never something I would have done on purpose, since even the least useful stat for your class (e.g. dex on fire a-p) is still in my opinion at least as useful to you overall as luck.
With the last change to stat rolling putting everyone on a pretty even ground in terms of "goodness" of stats, at this point everyone's luck should be pretty close.

54989, Cool thanks for the clarity. Useful to know. nt

54992, Makes sense.

The best character re: luck; as in skills that are tangibly, though minorly, influenced by luck such as charge, pincer, etc was a character I took the very first roll offered (though it was a decent roll).
Not that it mattered much (if any) but I definitely noticed getting more "seizing upon a lucky moment" or whatever the echo is.

54974, RE: Now the real question is:
Posted by Daevryn on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
There isn't a class based bonus for any class.
|
54975, How about characters with a name starting with 'S'
Posted by Sarien on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
They have a bonus, amirite? ;)

54982, The 'S' is for sucks.

Same for all races.
|
54963, Same question for classes then
Posted by incognito on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Thanks for the answer re races.
So thinking about it in light of your answer, I feel like my bards have good luck, and my aps bad. Muter somewhere in btwn, as is warrior.

54965, RE: Same question for classes then
Posted by Daevryn on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Same max.
|
54967, What muter and bard skills even use luck?
Posted by KaguMaru on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I really think you are conflating the luck stat with actual luck.
Not many warrior specs have skills which use it. You'll probably see it firing on A-P's more than anything else listed there except maybe an axe spec since it can fire on cleave and overhead.
|
54968, No!
Posted by incognito on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I understand the difference.
Skills like charge have a luck component, I think.
However, I'm thinking of stuff like gambling at the inn, which is affected by luck.

54969, Certain classes get a bonus to luck
Posted by N b M on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
All classes have the chance to roll a random number for luck but that bonus is applied after the character generation number is set. It can also be bumped up through edge picking.
|
54960, Don't conflate the 'luck' stat with actual luck. Not the same nt
