54710, Request: Avoid be made like parry, dodge, and shield block.

Take out the toggle stuff. Monks know they can't do anything without mana. I'm tired of having to crosscheck to see if I turned AVOID back on after I die.

My short term fix. @ YOu have been killed! (Avoid)
54719, stop moaning - bad enough you got avoid to trigger swiftstrike already!

If you make it automatic, you remove some trickiness that monks can pull off. They can make it seem like you are winning, then turn on avoid and intensify and put you in a world of hurt.

From what I have seen a monk takes too much damage because defy, metal armor use, and light armor use to not block that many attacks. You eat everyone of the attacks that they throw at you, and even a dwarf wouldn't do that for more than a round.*

*It's my assessment.

P.S. Have you done this with a monk or was that theoretical use?

As someone who's played many shaman/paladin rope-a-dopers what I would do is turn avoid off, make sure you're TOTALLY prepped, and anticipating whatever lagging option they have at you. Open with one wrath, MAYBE two.

Sure, you're more hurt than they are, but you've got sanc and prot. And co heal, and as an elf you have enough mana to heal up some, even if you are a monk.

Flee, put up avoid/maybe one heal commune. You don't want to overheal because ideally you want them to re-engage, see you're hurt, and go for the lag. Then when they lag themselves you fire up the intensify burners and collect all the coins from the corpse.
54725, Well and good. That is the tactic as I saw it.

It isn't my style to turn off avoid, I've just created a trigger turn it on right after I die.

I ate plenty of deaths by forgetting to put avoid back up, but I do like that it's a toggle. I ended up putting an echo to turn avoid back on.

Here's one of the fights I lost due to having avoid down. If I would have put it back up mid-fight, it likely would have ended up as Ekaerok described.

In response to the previous message, no I've never played this build.

This guy (Tolgrumm) is the reason that I thought the strategy may have existed though.
54711, Fair request. Let's see where it goes. nt
